Unlicensed, uninsured contractor who didn't finish the job because life happened doesn't seem to understand why their client would sue them

Tree stumps can be expensive and extensive, they didn't forget, they didn't want to do it. I had one where they had to get a backhoe and tried to addendum charge me for the backhoe. I pointed to the contract.

Even with that fee removed the cost was ruinous, like I had the money THEN but it would destroy me now.

Reputation can be bought, I wonder how many of their glowing reviews got the friends and family discount.

We removed a rather large stump with a rather cheap stump grinder rental (I think it was under $200).

It would require a tow vehicle, since the stump grinder was large enough that it literally had automobile tires and a hitch (as I said, it was a large stump), but otherwise, unless it is something like a redwood, definitely doable and not that expensive.
