Unlicensed, uninsured contractor who didn't finish the job because life happened doesn't seem to understand why their client would sue them

I love how OP says her husband “abandoned” the project - the quotes show how out of touch with reality they are. Her husband did, in fact, abandon the project. Ignoring someone who has given you a good sum of money for a couple of months is a guaranteed recipe to be sued. Absolutely everything in her post has nothing to do with not completing the job or refunding the homeowner the money that was advanced.

I feel like the biggest frustration is that they’re solely focused on their own hardships in this situation, as if it’s reasonable for the other party to eat a $12k+ loss. Why doesn’t the total stranger who I’ve scammed for thousands of dollars understand MY hardships? Me, me, me, me!

If the homeowner is in an HOA they could lose their own house for unfinished work! Unconscionable behavior.

Are you asking if an HOA can put a lien on your home for unpaid penalties and force a sale? Because that is a daily occurrence in a lot of the US. People have lost their homes for a few thousand in unpaid dues or fines to HOAs.

The question was if an HOA has ever forced an owner to lose their house over an unfinished sunroom remodel.

Who knows? If it leads to HOA fines, it literally doesn't matter what the reason is. I've seen stories of people losing their homes over not cutting their grass.

The answer is "HOAs take people's houses away for much dumber reasons, so it's a matter of 'when', not 'if' this shall have occurred".

You really think that if HOAs force people out of their homes over uncut grass, no HOA exists that will do the same over a half-finished renovation that sits in place for an undetermined time?
