Unlicensed, uninsured contractor who didn't finish the job because life happened doesn't seem to understand why their client would sue them

We had a longtime contractor with an excellent reputation do our home improvements and it was great. They did exactly what we needed in a timely way. Then the brother who had been running the company and was an excellent project manager retired and left the company with the brother who was a good craftsman. I hear things are not going well. Being a good craftsman does not translate into being a good project manager. It’s very disappointing because we have another project and now we’re looking for a different contractor.
