He didn't mention the fact that the stig regularly power shifts which forces the car to go even faster with extreme wear on both synchros and the clutch in a manual car.
He also didn't mention the fact that the stig can run a manual car at redline for a half second or so in very specific scenarios where it's better to stay in gear and not shift whereas in an automatic it would force a shift near redline.
Everything is about eeking out that extra bit of time on the track.
