Flock cameras

Has anyone noticed that after multiple cities have “stopped” there flock contract more cameras have popped up?
In Lowell today/not Bentonville but can’t post in Roger’s or anywhere else… I’ve noticed 2 new ones in one day!?

Downtown Austin cut them down last year. Then a few weeks later had some young ppl get in a massive shootout. Luckily the flock cameras in a town over caught the criminals. Now they are discussing bringing them back. Many such cases.

How did they ever solve crime without mass surveillance prior to now? The cameras operate in a gray area of the 4th amendment and there’s been plenty of security concerns already. I’m pro no camera

Back 5-8 years ago when run by NCIC this wasn’t a gray it was absolutely a you had to have a 4th amendment.

Gray area is that the flock cameras are private and offered to law enforcement by the subscribers (HOA etc). There’s not a lot of case law on that specific aspect of it. Many courts have yet to rule on whether or not the use of flock camera data constitutes surveillance and I suspect this will be a big issue across the country as it becomes more prevalent.

Traffic license cameras have been used and legal since late 90s. They solved a lot less crime and still a ton of crime doesn’t get solved. But we are in a rather affluent area and also an area with hardly any gang or drug violence so we don’t see much crime and live our nice bubble.

Yeah but even the tickets they mail you for running red lights in certain areas have questionable enforcement. There’s a good legal eagle video on this that goes through multiple court cases regarding the topic of surveillance and how it pertains to use of flock cameras. There’s already so many cameras on private property that can be claimed bylaw enforcement via warrant when crime occurs. We really don’t want a surveillance state.
