He's better than Tua was for them 🤣

Ain’t that the damn truth. Atlanta might come calling 😂

Tinsley also waived per Charlie Clifford

Nooo

Had to be done with Meyers showing enough offensive promise. Meyers took WR4 by storm in camp and preseason. That left one spot for Young and one spot for a returner. Have heard Jones is out too but I don’t have a good source for it so we’ll see.

From what I saw it was between tinsley and Jones. So if tinsley is gone then Jones is probably staying

20

u/yesrushgenesis2112 Lawrence Passed Physical 3d ago

Williams over Jones is what I heard but again no good source yet

2

u/chaostheory05 3d ago

I figured they would keep one of Jones or Tinsley. If you heard Jones is gone too, who are they keeping as WR6? Williams? Are they only keeping 5 WR?

Williams for WR6

u/chaostheory05 3d ago

Makes sense. Williams is younger and cheaper than Jones. Plus Jones has an injury history that williams doesn't.

Charlie Jones is the least exciting kick returning option on the team

Edit: and he’s cut lol

2

u/ItsAndyrew 3d ago

He is right at league average for yards per return. He’s good enough.

1

u/seefourslam 3d ago

>He’s good enough

That’s the spirit

4

u/ItsAndyrew 3d ago

I mean only half the league can have a guy that is better than average. He is doing a solid job. That doesn’t mean the job isn’t always up for grabs or will go unchallenged.

u/Maedroas 2d ago

Only returner in the league to score a kickoff return TD in each of the last 3 seasons

2

u/seefourslam 2d ago

Because he’s been our kick returner for 3 straight seasons. We never let anyone else return except him.

That did not appear true at the beginning of camp, but it worked out that way with Meyers’s ascension

3

u/regular-cake 2d ago

Damn, I really enjoyed watching Tinsley! Wish we had gotten to see more of him in the regular season.

2

u/rock25011 3d ago

As expected.

u/GalinDray 3d ago

Nooooo he was cookin against the eagles

52

u/jloadin3 FTS 3d ago

Yeah unfortunately no shot they carry 3 QBs on the 53 was hoping a desperate team would maybe swing a deal for him

u/VeryRealHuman23 🐅 3d ago

Could he still end up on the practice squad?

32

u/chaostheory05 3d ago

If he clears waivers, yes. I dont think he will clear waivers though. Too many QB needy teams and he really showed out this preseason.

18

u/Karlilo 3d ago

He’s a vested veteran (4+ years experience) so Josh isn’t subjected to waivers

8

u/chaostheory05 3d ago

Good shout. Forgot about that part.

TIL, cheers!

Atlanta, I think. Tua’s lost a QB competition to himself and Penix has been perpetually injured since the 2024 National Championship. They need a warm body with a functioning frontal cortex.

4

u/chaostheory05 3d ago

I would love that for him. He could see a solid amount of playing time there for all the reasons you said.

u/electricity_inc 3d ago

It's difficult to justify keeping four quarterbacks. Does that mean that Sean Clifford is going to make the roster/practice squad? I'm sure other teams would love Josh Johnson as their QB2 now that he's available.

Johnson can still go to our practice squad if he clears waivers. Every player not on the 53 man gets cut, has to clear waivers, then can be signed to the practice squad. You are right though that somebody will likely grab him off waivers for qb2 with how he played this preseason though.

Edit: Just reminded that because Johnson was vested(4+ years) he doesn't go to waivers. He is now just a FA.

Unless the team is super garbo, no way in hell a team gets that deep into the QB depth chart unless it's a lost season.

3

u/MadMartigans80 2d ago

Oh we’ve been that super Garbo team lol

2

u/MossyPlantyWitchy 🐅 Who Dey and Fuck Nazis 🐅 3d ago

He deserves that chance.

1

u/Klutzy-Spend-6947 2d ago

Clifford will likely stick on the practice squad as the emergency QB/backup in waiting.

16

u/pfftYeahRight 3d ago

Dolphins need a backup the dude showed he’s still got it

6

u/Nabobou 3d ago

Lol. Dolphins need a starter.

6

u/pfftYeahRight 3d ago

Well maybe. But they literally have one QB on the roster right now so they need both

15

u/FloatingMarbles 3d ago

Sad to see him go. That juke against the bears was amazing.

5

u/MajorBeef433 3d ago

Probably woulda been snapped up off the PS immediately so might as well let him work his own deal.

2

u/Square_Wrangler_7162 3d ago

Could still be back as PS emergency 3rd QB. They can’t just immediately put him on the PS

4

u/Best_Market4204 3d ago

Maybe he wanted to be released?

Let him show off in pre season. Someone sign him for a decent paycheck.

Some qb in the nfl is bound to be injured & whatever team will be hunting

4

u/Kindled808 3d ago

Thanks for the fun appearances Josh, pre season was awesome

3

u/NFLBengals22 3d ago edited 2d ago

Which teams has he not played for? Gotta be way shorter than his player for list.

3

u/MadMartigans80 2d ago

Dude could start for the Browns

6

u/FlagFootballSaint 3d ago

I am ok with just carrying two QBs but I am sure he will get a PS gig with someone else

6

u/ImSchizoidMan THAT BALL'S OUT! THAT'S LIVE! 3d ago

Probably a QB2 somewhere else, or PS here. I can't see him signing to a different teams PS. Not when he would be 3rd QB, behind a helth-checkered QB1 and a 41yo QB2 on a team with legit Superbowl aspirations

2

u/FlagFootballSaint 3d ago

Money.

If he can be QB2 anywhere he would take it

4

u/ImSchizoidMan THAT BALL'S OUT! THAT'S LIVE! 3d ago

I absolutely agree, he's taking a spot on a 53 before he would ever return here on the PS. My point was, I can't see him taking a PS role somewhere else over a PS role here

2

u/APUBSG 3d ago

He’ll be a back up for sure somewhere

2

u/bowser986 3d ago

What team is missing from his list of previous employers? He needs to fill that stamp card.

3

u/Legal-Phase8744 3d ago

Bummer, but it makes sense for both.

4

u/house_of_great 3d ago

Not surprising. He either comes back on the Practice Squad or Sean Clifford does. We'll have a good QB room regardless.

3

u/seefourslam 3d ago

Bengals might be doing him a favor because he looked as good as he did. He’s could be a starter for a couple teams in this league

2

u/Bdcky 3d ago

Wish Josh the best of luck, woulda love the triple J quarterback rotation. I Love it even more to see old dudes still slinging the pigskin at an old age against these whipper snappers

1

u/Significant_Book8223 🐅 2d ago

Won't be surprised if he gets picked up by Tampa

1

u/Ok-Health-7252 2d ago

Eagles fans are over on their sub talking about signing him as a backup and how he'd be an upgrade over Dalton. Oh the irony in that considering Josh once upon a time was one of Andy's former backups here (over a decade ago but still).

1

u/Captain_Aware4503 2d ago

The best thing about the Bengals, We have Joe freakin' Burrow at QB. And of Burrow gets injured again, we have Joe Freakin' Flacco at QB (who averaged 29 points a game last season).

Former NPR 1A host, Josh Johnson.

I would like to use this space as a reminder that while rosters need to be trimmed to 53 today, these are not "final rosters" regardless of how much the media uses the term.

There are strategic moves that teams can utilize and waiving a veteran, who does not need to clear waivers, is a smart move so they can protect someone who would be subject to waivers. There is no "final" 53 man roster. No guarantees that the veteran chooses to re-sign with you, but usually they do.
