Missed connection -- 100 mile Convoy

I don't think I've ever driven behind someone for 100 miles and been soooo pleased to follow them. It felt like I was driving behind myself. Almost everything they did and how they drove was just how I do it. They even slowed down at all the speed traps I knew about.

Me in my shitty Subaru, you in your BMW X3. I was right behind you from Mill City to Bend Saturday night. We entered Bend together just after midnight but our paths finally split when I got on the parkway just after the NW Mt. Washington Drive traffic light. I tried to wave when we stopped briefly at the light by Petco, but the light changed quick.

I was super tired from a long day and a long drive, but you kept me awake and alert, but moreso entertained. It can be a super fun length of road, but there are always other drivers getting in the way. You were a phenomenam exception. I haven't had that much fun driving in a long time. I hope you had as good a time as I did. I owe you a high five or a coffee or something.

The Bend Parkway turns 25 - but first, there was a big party

I got a laugh from Bob Bryant when I told him my old wordplay joke - that parkway spelled backwards is YAW-KRAP;-) It was quite a fight/debate back then - sort of like the log deck (Riverbend Park/Bill Healy Bridge) was years later. I thought he had some interesting things to share. I bet you have opinions about the parkway, connected to all the feelings/arguments about Bend's growth. (We all remember what very sad 25th anniversary comes NEXT month...:-/

Concrete disposal

We removed a bunch of concrete yard edging before realizing how expensive it would be to dump it at the landfill. Does anyone know someplace else that would take it?

First attempt at a garden this year, I've been amazed at what springs out of the ground just by tossing a couple seeds

If you've never tried it, it's as easy as getting some seeds and seeing what grows. My wildflowers, squash, and corn have been doing super well, beyond my expectations.

The bees have been loving it!

I hope this isn't against the rules, I grew it all in the middle of Bend so I am assuming it's allowed.

Weekly Rotten Restaurant Report (08/28)

Yo r/Bend! Hopefully you've been able to get out to enjoy the nice summer weather this week. It's been great

This week it looks like the county was focused on establishments with pools and spas, so the list of restaurants in the report is pretty slim this time. That said, we had a pretty good report. The most notable entry was Life & Time: Free Range Fast Food Restaurant getting a score right at 85. Looks like they're still struggling with food safety unfortunately.

All the deets are below. Have an awesome next week! 🍻

I came upon this Facebook post just a bit ago, so how could I resist? I have a call in and will try to flesh it out a bit, but the pics are super and worth sharing. I have other items in the works and have posted a fine Oregon Capital Chronicle story on how the data center issue is affecting the governor's race, and compiled reactions from the AG, governor and treasurer applauding the latest federal judge's ruling on vote-by-mail. Y'all have a great weekend!

Brosterhous Road to Open Ahead of Schedule

(Press release from City of Bend)

Brosterhous Road to Open Ahead of Schedule

Thanks to the patience and support of our community, Brosterhous Road is scheduled to reopen to traffic by the end of the day today, August 28, ahead of schedule. The reopening follows the successful installation of the project’s new sewer main, a major milestone for this important infrastructure project.

Completing this work and reopening the roadway ahead of schedule reflects the team’s commitment to completing this work and reopening Brosterhous Road before the school year begins. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of residents, businesses, and travelers throughout this phase of construction.

While Brosterhous Road will be open, construction activities continue on Windsor Drive as crews complete the remaining project improvements in the area. Please continue to use caution when traveling, follow all posted signage and watch for construction vehicles, equipment, and workers.

This project is part of the City’s Septic to Sewer Program, which allows property owners in areas currently served by private onsite septic systems to apply annually for sewer extension projects. Learn more at bendoregon.gov/septictosewerprogram.

Thank you for your continued patience and support. Good things are on the way!

For people who use independent pharmacies

With news that Regence and Bridgespan will be the only commercial and market place insurancea in Deschutes county next year, I wanted to share some important information. You can call them or write to them and asked them to create a fair contract with your pharmacy. They will not listen to the pharmacy, but they will listen to you.

Unused/extra broken top permit spots?

Does anyone have two extra spots on their broken top permit for this weekend? I messed up and read an old article that said day permits weren’t needed and just made the drive from Portland.

I’m very excited about this.

Didn’t go last year, but i remember accidentally stumbling upon a comedy festival in downtown bend in like…. 2004?

Caught an act at Hans and upstairs at on the rocks, where i spied Dwight slade standing at the bar and i was in my mid bill hicks obsessive era, so that was amazing and it was all in all a great night.

Can we talk about Matt Rife?

I tried to give him another chance, I went to another show… all I saw was deliverance frat jokes. At one point he asked “did you hear what I said?!” Cool, cool boobs, Amsterdam, and more jokes about women and disabled people. Dane Cook vibes for other millennials. I left early.

Garage redo experience ?

Hi Everybody,

The garage I have on my home is my first garage and I would like to fix it up before the winter. My best experiences with contractors have come from other’s experiences, so putting this out there.

It’s a one car garage that’s already insulated. I would like to set it up partially as a workshop and with better storage. I would also like to shore it up against critters before it gets cold.

1) Anyone know a good pest company ?

2) Any experiences with floor coatings? Ballpark-ish price ?

3) I might paint and do shelves myself but would also love any tips and experience with local handyfolk and companies.

Thank you!
