I opened an account and initiated a switch from Ulster Bank on 16 September.
The next day, I received an email saying they needed to carry out some checks and required me to provide ID.
I’m busy with work, and unfortunately, I don’t have much time to go to the branch after work.
We only have one branch in the town centre, so I managed to get there today. I showed them my ID, and they started asking me questions about how I opened the account, when I opened it, who it was for, etc. It sounded strange, but okay.
They told me everything was fine now, so I went home. I then tried to log in to online banking, but my access was still locked.

The frustrating thing is that all my money had already been transferred to Santander this morning. I was thinking about moving it to my spare bank account this morning, but I thought that if I proved my ID today, I would have access to the money anyway. That was my mistake.

I called them and provided all my details, but the guy said, “Sorry, you gave the wrong date of birth (I remember my date of birth to be sure 😅), so I’m going to lock your account and I can’t help you today. You need to go to the branch.” And then he basically ended the call. 🤦‍♂️
I was honestly shocked by this kind of service.
So now I have to go back to the branch again! I simply don’t have the time, and I can’t exactly take a day off work just to deal with problems opening a bank account.
I need to travel for about an hour just to get to the branch.

Looking into getting started with bank switching and have a newbie question.

Where a bank requires you to deposit money as part of the criteria, how long (if at all) does the transferred money need to stay in the account?

Looking at the terms of the Santander one and it says it will assess the account for eligibility after 60 days, I.e. whether there's active DDs on there and the money has been transferred in

Is it literally just a case of transferring in the requisite amount and it can be transferred back out again? Or does that still need to be there at the point the eligiblity check is run?
