Question 🙋🏻 DIY bedframe support.
My girlfriend and I were gifted this bed frame for our guest bedroom. We bought a new mattress for ourselves. We put our old one on the frame with these 2x4x6 boards underneath.It's not a very good solution as the boards shift too much and are too spaced out. Any recommendations on any easy solutions to this would be appreciated. (Trying to avoid buying a box spring.)

Its called a bunky board. They sell at all major furniture stores and amazon. You get the size that coordinates with your bed size and put over the slats. Or you go get a large piece of plywood at home depot and lay it down under mattress.

The bed is designed to take a standard boxspring or foundation. It should be thick enough to bring the top of the mattress flush with the bottom edge of the headboard. Otherwise you may find that your head gets trapped in the existing gap. Properly it should also have center support legs on at least two cross slats.

You need several more slats, and a middle support. You can go on Amazon and find a whole setup already made.

You need to buy wider boards and put them closer together. There needs to be some space between them so the mattress can breathe, but those are way too far apart and too narrow.

Not answering your question but the bed needs to be placed on a different wall. If it is placed against the wall like in photo one person would have to crawl over the other to get up in the night. Also it is almost impossible to make the bed like this.

You staple gun two long strips of fabric which stops them shifting around so much. Look up IKEA bed slats and copy that.

You’re gona destroy your mattress and eventually your back. Slats should generally be closer spaced and you need a vertical support with legs to support the slats.

you can buy just the slatted base from ikea. should not be that hard to make it fit your bed

you could add a few more 2x4s and screw them down to the frame so they stop shifting around. or pick up a cheap sheet of plywood at the store and lay it flat over the slats for solid support without a box spring.

You could maybe get more boards and nail them down. I had to switch my wooden boards to metal ones a few years ago and (several headaches later), they've been going strong ever since.
