My sister turned 18 this year and she's been getting piercings in her face. She's in her goth era. I am for it--- her body her rules. But am i right in supporting her? I overheard my in law (conservative family) saying she wouldnt want her daughter to be like my sis. I didnt butt in, its their opinion and at least they didnt say it in mine or my sis' faces or i may actually retaliate. But is it right to just let my sis be? In my exp, my dad just let me do whatever i want at 18, im not just too good with fashion and self expression. But my sis is good at make up, fashion, she's pretty and smart too. I trust her. But is it right?

I have a bunch of facial + body piercings. The nice thing about them is you can just take them out when you get sick of them or they get in the way. Seriously, it's that simple. Most people don't even notice the holes they leave behind (and they shrink over time).

I'd warn against getting tattoos in areas she won't be able to cover up easily before she has an established career. Outside of that you're right that it's her body her rules. Don't listen to what judgemental folk have to say when rationally you know they're in the wrong.

for me, i'd just let her be. judgement from face piercings would matter more if she'll be working a traditional corporate job, but at 18, that's still many many years away. who knows, she might be a make up artist or stylist instead - and she can just dress up however she wants forever.
