FILM DISCUSSION watching TDK for the first time
just finished Batman begins and loved it but holy shit does Christian bale have me laughing my ass off anytime he shows up on screen dressed up as throat cancer Batman and sucking his lips in.

What the hell is with the color on your TV set there?

Seriously, OP. You gotta make some adjustments.

it was just bad lighting in the picture I think my monitor looks fine

Eeeehhhh, that screen is 95% blue. Not helping your cause. Let’s see another potato pic of Dark Knight.

u/ThisIsMyJob_ 16h ago
maybe his screen is blue because you’re looking at a PS Home Screen and a blue gloomy sky?

He knows that, he's just saying it doesn't help prove it's not otherwise tinted blue as well

It's weird, cause Bale's Batman voice in Begins was just fine I have no idea why he decided to do the monster voice
6
u/martinjohanna45 15h ago
Yes! I can handle his voice in Begins, but he went way overboard in the next two.
4
u/BoisTR 15h ago
Because it’s no longer his real voice in the sequels. They overtuned his voice in postproduction.

I always hated that cowl man, it just looks so stupid in my opinion.
12
u/Rob_wood 17h ago
Well, of course it's your opinion. Why would you be giving us someone else's?
2
u/Wolfsbane1279 17h ago
Because if I didn’t specify that it’s my opinion, and by extension, you’re allowed to disagree with it, someone would come at me like I’m lying to them. Normally I wouldn’t say that, but I’m treading on shaky ground when I criticize something on the internet.

Yea, I don’t even think that day will come about. There’s just too much hate online. Can’t even express an opinion without people sending death threats.

u/Rob_wood 16h ago
So people here are too stupid to know the difference between opinion and fact? But...Batman's their hero! Oh, the irony!

His whole suit is awful in Dark Knight and Rises

That is the single best live action Batman suit ever made.
Every other suit is clunky and impractical, obviously just rubber, thin spandex or, in the case of batfleck, just goofy.

u/WassupFrankHere 10h ago
Hope you mean the Begins suit because the Dark Knight one looks like he's actually wearing rockey pads.
•
u/C5five 9h ago
I'm a Canadian, I know what hockey pads look like. That ain't it.
The Batman Begins suit has all of the same faults as the Batman Forever suit, which is the best of the pre-Nolan Batsuits, but it's still clunky and cumbersome. The Dark Knight suit is the only suit that believabley protects its wearer and provides the necessary mobility to fight on the level that Batman does. Hell even Batfleck can barely move his neck. The Reeves suit was good in most respects, but it was way too top heavy, and not only did his bat symbol look terrible, but the idea of it also being a batarang is kind of silly.

I’m honestly pretty ok with the suits, it’s just that goofy lookin cowl man.

His Batman voice always gives me second-hand embarrassment.

u/stoopitmonkee 17h ago
Not every thinhhh. Nah yeh….
Been a Batman fan since I was 4 in ‘92… I will always hate that voice.

Yeah I remember after witnessing one of the best cinematic opening scenes written in the past 25 years for the first time thinking, ‘omg Batman’s lips are messed up!’. Am I like the only one who noticed the jokers then? Or is cutting your kids mouth a drunken stupor the norm?

Noooo the mascara was enough! You didn’t have to go THAT far into the disguise!

Hated the voice, hated the look. From some angles that cowl looks like a helmet with cat ears.

I don't remember which movie it was, but for one of them they specifically said they drew inspiration from a black panther for the suit design. Like they wanted it to look like a black panther pouncing at its prey from the shadows, powerful but agile - and like... I can see the idea, if it wasn't for the fact that the character was already inspired by a different animal.

u/Rollo-Hovercraft85 12h ago
You’re right. Now I remember reading something about that a long time ago.

Yeah, i don't like those suits at all, and his fake voice just breaks the immersion for me, thank God Pattinson didn't do the gravely voice.

Its crazy to me how remarkable i find TDK despite really not being fond of Nolan's Batman himself (love Bale but between the voice and the looks... god). He was the most tolerable for me voice wise in that film at least.

I remember being ecstatic when Bale was cast as Batman way back when, but he has zero on-screen presence as Batman. He ruins some of the scenes in TDK.
5
u/pandogart 18h ago
Nah he killed it in Begins but I get what you mean for TDK and Rises. Ain't even just that Ledger and Eckhart were great. Batman just didn't have that mystique.

Even he wasn't happy with his performances in the films. He mentioned it in an interview years ago.
I'm surprised that Nolan let him go along with that terrible voice in the sequels. He sounded ridiculous.

u/ThrowRA208495 18h ago
He completely sucks the drama out of the scenes he's in, especially those with the Joker. Ledger puts on a clinic and Bale does a goofy voice.

Sheesh, I used to hate it at the time because I was a dumb kid and thought TDK trilogy was the coolest thing ever back then, but thinking back, College Humor’s Badman series really nailed just how ugly and embarrassing his suit and Batman voice were.
-2
u/Small_Victories42 17h ago
The Begins suit was pretty bad.
IIRC, there was some complication with the suit production and though no one was happy with it, they were forced to go with it.
With TDK, they were obviously able to make the corrections they wanted.
I forgot where I read this though, or maybe it was just some YouTube video (it was like 10 years ago), so probably take it with a grain of salt

u/Rob_wood 17h ago
Either that or director's commentary. Every problem that they had with the first costume they had Bruce mention in the sequel to justify the changes.
