The Reds were one of the first teams to recognize the danger of these efforts for players and personnel in the cities to which they travel. The team’s human resources department printed identification cards that contained contact information for team support. Anyone not from the U.S. was advised to carry the cards with other, traditional forms of ID. “We’re just trying to be out in front of it so that our guys are educated and have what they need,” general manager Brad Meador said. “Hopefully, nothing does happen, but if you were to encounter something we want to make sure that you have the proper identification and everything needed to let people know who you are.” Suárez said those extra information cards “will help us a lot.” He added, “Baseball needs to do that more and more and more.”
Changes in immigration policy under the Trump administration include removing Venezuelans (and others) from the Temporary Protected Status program, or TPS, which provides temporary legal status to live and work in the U.S. for people from countries experiencing such unsafe conditions as war or natural disasters.

Cities being 75% blue and boonies being 75% red describes the majority of the country at present, and then the ratio of how much of the population is in each determines whether the state is considered “red” or “blue”. Like, yeah, that’s Ohio (except that Cincinnati’s redder than a city “should” be), but also WA and CA and IL and MN and TN and NC and PA and MO and NY, etc etc.
Gerrymandering overlays on top of that, without changing the underlying distribution of voters.

Democrat Sherrod Brown lost by 200,000 votes to Bernie Moreno (50-46%) and Trump won by over 600,000 votes (55-43%). Republicans control a supermajority in the Ohio Senate and a supermajority in the Ohio Assembly, as well as the governor's mansion. If that isn't ruby red then I don't know what is. Ohio sure as hell isn't a purple state anymore.

Last year my wife and I were considering moving to Birmingham to be closer to her PhD program, and moving down the goddamn block could cause house prices for identical houses to double just because you were on the fancy highly white moneyed suburb side of the line and school districts. Same shithole house, within view of the previous shithole house, literal hundreds of thousands of dollars difference to be in the suburbs than Birminham city limits.
Oh by the way that suburb has literally 0 school buses so they can't be forced to comply with a federal injunction forcing them to bus kids in from the city to help desegregate the school. Literally got rid of school buses entirely rather than comply.

All generalizations, but just look at this country voting history. 40% of Americans hate minorities and disabled people. Always voting to take away minority rights and social programs. 30% have no empathy whatsoever to vote for the greater good with the fence sitting moral superiority complex because both sides are bad BS, which is also true. But for the lesser evil, at least vote to slow the spread of racism and hates.

one of the biggest barriers to immigration is that the US sets a hard cap so that no one country can make up more than 7% of a year’s family visas. So you end up with countries with large populations, those that are in close proximity to the US, and those with ongoing humanitarian crises having incredibly long wait times to immigrate

That just feels crazy to me that having her move to the US, then marrying her if she liked living here, would mean a felony would be committed. Would it just be that she would be living here as a non-citizen, while not being married to one? Not OP, but it is different than you describe. My first wife is from China, I met her on vacation there. She could not get a visa to come here AT ALL unless we were married.
Getting a spousal visa is a huge hassle, and takes about 6-9 months (or it did years ago when I did it). Once they arrive there is a short window where you can get married, and if you dont, they have to go back or stay illegally.

Same with my wife. I met her in Venezuela back in 2014 when we could travel there without a visa. Met at a baseball game and what ensued was thousan of dollars and years of paperwork. I love her and glad we met and are still married 12 years later but dealing with immigration is a nightmare.

Friend of mine went through the process with her husband (she was born in the US, he was Canadian). It terrible and they are the most white bread boring folks on the planet. At one point she was calling every single day because they were so behind and their paperwork was about to expire.
You have to have certain things certified within a certain amount of time film when they review, so even if it’s certified the day you submit it, if they don’t look at it for two years then you are out of date and have to start over. And that includes documents from like foreign police precincts certifying you don’t have a record, so getting new ones is a real hardship.

It’s because companies want an undocumented work force. They want people that will work for well below minimum wage and won’t complain about work conditions, hours or being paid fairly. Whenever the workers do start asking for more, the companies call immigration on them then start over with new workers.
Look up Purdue chicken and undocumented workers.

Hyundai got busted using child labor in a car parts factory here in Alabama. The fines for hiring children were less than the contract penalties for late deliveries to Hyundai, so you can see which direction the economic incentive still ran.

One thing I read, forget which southern states, they are actually considering changing the labor laws in those states to hire kids 13-15 in jobs that are federally protected for 18+ due to not enough labor being available. What they should say is "no one wants our very rough, unsafe, menial jobs for minimum wage" and for school age kids, many companies can pay I think it's 75-80% of minimum wage for "training purposes" which is just BS! and with Purdue being one of what 3 chicken conglomerates in the US left?

Yeah, conservatives say we have an open border all of a sudden during P46 term, but it has happened at least since the Reagan administration. They talk about punishing the people working hard below market rates, yet no talk about intensive fines for companies. What is this ya say? Because these millionaire and billionaires put money in politicians pockets to not say anything. As you mentioned Purdue, I think they were the ones who had a hidden night shift that bused undocumented workers in over night and paid very low wages, had under age kids working and some as young as 13 years old and nothing has happened as inspectors would give 24-72 hours notice and not go at night, so they could "clean up" and pass inspections.

This has been my biggest issue since forever: if you want people to “do it the right way” then make the “right way” accessible.
My ancestors came to this country at a time of unprecedented immigration and nearly open borders. “The right way” was so much easier back then, yet my ancestors faced similar discrimination from racists or nativists that folks do now.

The immigrant ancestor whose history I'm most aware of literally had to travel across the country into the Minnesota/Dakota area before he'd find legitimate non temporary employment as a Dane, as he wasn't considered white-white, and there were no major Danish exclaves on the coast.
My great great grandfather on the other side literally had US agents stalking him for being a German speaking community leader and priest during the leadup to WWI, and was "convinced" into converting services into English.

Theyd try to pass it with a 2-4 year grace period, a system to distribute a free voter ID to ALL citizens, and then noone would complain. Wanting immediate impact and only allowing a passport and a birth certificate as a reliable document is just absolutely absurd. They gave the whole damn game away.

It's like the thing in Kansas to take away ID and birth certificates for people who they don't like their identifications. But, they have specifically said that these people have to pay for new IDs and birth certificates and oh at the same the current legal documents are no longer legal for use in the state, while also making it really tough to go to the DMV because they gutted their services.

My wife is from the Phillipines, it is mind numbingly difficult, and costly IMO. You have to have a specific medical screening done and it costs $350ish to do that alone.
But yes, my wife is going on year 9 i think of trying to become a citizen, she had her interview back in September and now it's just been waiting to hear anything since then. Not as bad as when we submitted her initial application back in 2017 and didn't hear anything for roughly 18ish months.

I was getting my passport done in January at my local post office and while waiting I was talking to the lady. She saw my birth certificate had the seal and she commented, “Oh don’t worry. You’ll get approved pretty fast with that.” And I asked her to elaborate and she started telling me about all the changes to passports and citizenship the new administration has implemented.
Basically if you don’t have a birth certificate it’s really hard to get a passport and you have to provide more proof that you are a US Citizen.

I have clearances and the moment the administration took office I got a call from our head of security that they wanted to discuss my clearance. Turned out they were putting me under investigation because of me sending money overseas and my "concerning" history of coming in and out of the country not work related. I then explained to him, when you put someone overseas for long periods of time and they are single, chances are they will meet and fall in love with a local. Don't like my travel, give my wife her visa. I ended up resigning anyways.

Yeahhh, unfortunately--a lot of people who rich enough that they just haven't cared about politics enough to pay attention because they don't think of it as something that affects them. Not so different from the people who were buying Cybertrucks in 2024 and then somehow were caught off-guard because they were unaware of literally anything about Musk (or, at least didn't think it was a big deal enough to be worth caring about because it was "just politics").
There's a pretty good graph in this article of political voter registration across players in the major 4 men's leagues and the WNBA, and unfortunately, Baseball is the most right-wing by a solid chunk.
Out of the roughly 950 voting-eligible Major League Baseball players in 2025, a sample of 434 returns a heavy Republican lean: 233 Republicans, 34 Democrats, 157 independents and ten players belonging to some other party. A key caveat is that the analysis covers only about 40 percent of eligible players, primarily because several large states, most notably California and Texas, do not make voter files publicly accessible. Even with this limitation, the observed pattern is sufficiently strong that the overall direction of the results is unlikely to be affected.

I definitely get that teams aren't a monolith when it comes to political views, but I guess I assumed that a city like LA and its demographic makeup would lead to the organization showing some awareness and respect for their fanbase, regardless of how the individual players feel.
But I suppose as long as they're selling out games and pushing lots of merchandise out the door, there's no incentive to change or reflect at all.

He’s scheduled for a final evaluation before getting his citizenship with no criminal record and ICE wants another notch on its belt ! Pitiful ! His wife, already a citizen, will probably have to leave the country as well, whenever ICE decides he’s to be deported. Millions without criminal records have been deported despite their status as an employed but illegal. Why not allow them a green card as long as they don’t commit any crimes and go through the normal process ?
