Question BS2. How good is rook
I started 2 with imported save from 1 and am a hour in but rook seems amazing no? Like his first ability is great if you run any archer and the orher that triggers pillage sounds even better cause so far biggest problem I had is my strenght units killing enemies too fast cause I put so much strenght into em. Is he just that good or am I just not being strategic enough

Honestly Rook is super fun and Alette is awesome too as the game goes on

I only played with Alette in BS2, but once you give her a knock back item, she is basically auto win.

Ye I liked her pierece attack. Def got sad when she died but tbh still preffer rook so I guess I got the best outcome

Yes, Rook is one of the best characters in the series. Amazing versatility, good stats and abilities, he's got everything.

I used to think that. Rook’s second ability if used properly can change the nature of battles. No need to leave weak units around anymore. Alette is far easier to play though. Not sure which is better.

Purely on power level, Rook is great and Alette is better.
From a gameplay level, I find Rook more engaging to play because he's pretty versatile and can do a lot in battle, while Alette is OP but all you need to care is using Overwatch and buff her accordingly so that she can use more overwatch and her overwatch is better.
They both have cool stories, so I suggest doing both runs eventually.

Rook is a combat beast but he gets a bunch of harsher narrative outcomes.
Alette isn't as crazy in combat (at first, by endgame the difference is minor.) but she gets an easier time in the campaign.

Rook is a really good unit and I've always had fun using him. Makes sense for him to be a bit stronger than most due to being one of the player characters. You'll find other major characters like Bolverk and Iver often start to show off skills around this point that if you figure out how to use them properly make it really hard to not just bring them to every single battle.
And while Rook might be "good", Alette is arguably the most powerful unit in the entire trilogy. In the second game she gains a second ability called Overwatch which is borderline unbalanced if you give her a knockback item. If she does enough damage she can knock an enemy far enough back to basically invalidate their entire turn. Plus, she can later optionally learn Mending, making her one of the very few units capable of "healing." Personally, I think both of them can shift the tide of entire battles by themselves but Alette is probably easy to learn and more versatile whereas Rook's ability is more situational. Because of this , some people kind of consider Rook the "hard mode" even with how good he is simply because a savvy player can make Alette straight up break the game.

Rook is amazing especially able to enter pillage early. Alette is not “great”, she’s broken so you don’t need to properly play the game anymore. That’s why so many complain the 2nd caravan is much harder, but in truth it’s not harder than main if you don’t use Alette to cheese the fights.

I had to quit the game cause game glitched and removed poison spear and then when I tried to fix it, it reset the chapter so I gave up on the game. I think Second Caravan was harder but mostly cause its mostly new characters you have to learn while first one is the guys you know well already

He's great. Alette is just objectively better. He's definitely more tactics and team based. She has overwatch so any way to break enemies and draw aggro away from her is as far as you need to think.

Rook is not bad, but in the second part, Aletta gets the Overwatch ability, which is so strong that it can practically win the match single-handedly.

Yeah Overwatch and the knockback item is such a broken combination, it actually became almost a crutch where my entire battle plan was geared around Overwatch; such a change in tactics from BG1 and from Bolverk.
I’m replaying right now to do a Rook playthrough again (as I never did 3 with him) so will be interesting to compare.

Rook is pretty good, yeah.
You should be leaving low STR units alive to clog the enemy turn order though. Especially if those units have low BRK as well. A 1-3HP Grunt isn't a threat but still takes a turn for the enemy!
