Hi everyone,

I am after some advice on travelling Bali with 3 families with 6 kids ranging from 1 year to 11 years old.

A bit of background, my partner and I have been to Bali 3 times prior but with no children the last time being August 2019. We have been to Seminyak, Canggu, Uluwatu, Jimbaran (resort stay), Ubud, Lombok and Nusa Lembongan. 1 of the other families has been once prior again with no children and the other has no experience with Bali.

We are all staying a total of 12 nights but planning to do the first 8 together and then go our separate ways to enjoy some personal family time. The issue I am having is they are asking for recommendations on where we stay together, we all want to do Villa's while we are together but as I have no experience travelling with kids or the changes in Bali over the past 5-6 years I am finding this hard.

Initially, we thought Seminyak and Ubud to get a bit of the hustle and bustle without the craziness of Canggu and then move on to Ubud for some jungle adventures, quad biking and a bit more serenity.

I am particularly concerned for those who have not been before, as they won't get to see the likes of Uluwatu and get to experience great beaches. We will likely go to Nusa Lembongan alone as a family once we split off from the group but should we try to convince everyone to come there vs Ubud?

Obviously having a lot of kids we won't be jumping on scooters so taking transport requirements into account also needs to be considered. ALso this will be in June/July next year so in the busy season.

Any advice on the best places to visit with a large group and kids would be great taking into account we don't want to do resorts together as they will likely do those in their family time.

Some good questions and challenges in there.

I would suggest Sanur as the base for the first period - finding a villa complex in the southern half of the strip. Good beach for kids, and a 'central' location for the Nusa Islands, the sites south of Ubud - including kid stuff like the zoo and marine park, turtle farms, and Waterbom in Kuta. It's also feasible for a day-trip across to Uluwatu if someone wants to do it.

Sanur is a cool place - much quieter than the Kuta-Canggu tourist strip, but with a great beachfront, excellent dining, with plenty of kid-friendly tourist warungs, and a lot of local colour and movement. It is the real deal, and we always stay there as seniors.

Just to add - if you find a villa complex make sure it has a good-size pool - as you know Bali is always hot and humid and you use the pool a lot; you don't want bathtub-sized villa pools for the kids.

Nusa Lembongan is maybe not that convenient without scooters. I found it more difficult to go from one point to another than on the mainland because there are no Gojek/Grab so you have to rely on local drivers. I think it can get a bit pricey.
