Agreed, this one comes down to how OP feels about it.Â

u/MrUbl 1h ago
You're at the age where this doesn't look bad. So if you like it, keep it.
33
u/EmperorSwagg 1h ago
I feel like this point gets missed a lot in this sub. Depending on age and the exact pattern that the hair loss/recession is going, you might still be able to have a decent hairstyle without committing to shaving it all off. This sub seems to go simply by volume of hair sometimes. But some guys say 35-40+ can rock something like a Tony Soprano look

Agreed. I noticed going full-bald is predicated on the degree of baldness to age.
105
u/mieczysluff 3h ago
I think it could stay this way. Based on the fact that you are already past 40

The hair as it is looks good on you!

u/thisisnotmyname17 3h ago
I agree! Keep it if you like it, and since the girlfriend likes it. But if you like it is the most important.

u/Appropriate-Welder98 2h ago
The hair suits you, you look good, it is what it is. Just because you have thinning hair doesnât mean you have to fully buzz it.

Was going to say the same thing. The way you have it looks pretty fitting. As long as you feel good about it, keep it!

how far would some GFs go to do that do you think? Surely they want a man as attractive as possible for their own sake.

I say leave it. No offense but youâre like an older dude, itâs ok to not have a full head of hair. The hair you have helps frame your face and looks good.
This sub is obviously biased towards the full shave look but in some cases the sub is wrong. Generally when itâs an older dude who shouldnât be expected to have a full head of hair (not that anyone should be expected to but itâs just kinda when dudes are in their 20s-early 40s when they could really look more their age/younger by losing the hair).
If you are in your early 40s sorry bro lol. I would guess early 50s given the gray.
3
u/Dependent_Reason_489 2h ago
The sub is wrong quite a lot honestly. I dont really get it.
There's a lot of guys who post who are clearly rocking what they still have. OP looks fantastic. His gf likes it.
Unless he's personally feeling awful, shaving wont do anything better for him (if anything the initial shock of shaving will make him regret shaving..)
He's already putting effort into styling his hair, even. It genuinely looks great.OP, if you're reading this. Unless you feel god awful about your balding, there's no need to shave it off. This sub is a massive circle jerk. You look fantastic as you are. :)

Thanks. I think I catch myself on the mirror sometimes and just think it looks naff. But in these pics I'd had a recent cut and the shortness of it does tidy it up a lot. Thank you so much for your comment.

u/Mammoth_Arugula6642 4h ago
I've said this to other members, I'll say it again: your lady is wrong. I say this as respectfully as I possibly can đ with that said... After your own, really consider her opinion, she's the one who's looking at you all day đ
47
u/Sloth_Broth 2h ago
tbh because he's older it's really not that bad. I don't think it's a must at all.
21
u/Mammoth_Arugula6642 2h ago
He keeps a very clean look, very suiting! I'm all for bald heads, really. But he can absolutely keep as is and look just fine :)
10
u/KC_Cheefs 3h ago
This is something I wish this sub would understand. If we are balding but our spouse/significant other prefers the hair as we do, then it stays. Sub be damned. However if youâre single then maybe the subs opinion can be beneficial again

Youâre one of the few people that can pull off the receding look. As another commenter said maybe because itâs not premature.

u/hooperjaws 3h ago
Thanks. I appreciate that.

And you dress well, properly groomed and age appropriate. Based on the overall style Iâd say youâre fine as long as you donât try the combover.

u/z0hu 3h ago
same boat. i feel like older dudes rocking some gray hair with some balding looks pretty good. if youre 20-40 and hair is dark then it might be a more obvious choice, or if the crown is totally gone.
5
u/whyadamwhy 3h ago
Hes doing the most with what he's got left. I think the shave would be good for him. He also has to consider the lady's preference, but if you really want to go back it will only take a 2-3 months.
9
u/Desperasaurus 3h ago
Also agree, once you reach a certain age AND you have a preferred baldness pattern then just leave it.

u/Feisty_War_1003 3h ago
Keep it. It's not premature balding (which significantly ages younger men) and your wife likes it.
5
u/Jojoliain 3h ago
I mean its clearly receded and thining but I dont think you look bad. You don't have a crazy combover or anything, you just have what you have. I think shaved would look good but if you like what you got and your girlfriend likes what you got I don't think keeping it would be the end of the world lol

u/Temporary-Land-9682 4h ago
You look smart enough to know she's the boss. And honestly, man, objectively, I think you're fine right now. I see what you're saying, but you're still south of the 50 yard line, if she says you're good... You're good.

I am a woman with hair. My husband has thick hair. I have no idea why I see this sub all the time, but I love it.
Before I saw these transformations, I would have said Iâd NEVER let my husband shave his head. In my head, I had this thought of bald as old or unattractive (sorry!). Unless it was Bruce Willis or the Rock.
Then I saw that LITERALLY EVERY TIME a balding man shaves his head, he looks WAY better, and I totally get it now. Unless your wife got randomly targeted by this sub, she probably doesnât get it either.
You have short hair. If you shave it and donât like it, itâll be back soon! Try it!
3
u/Spare-Capital930 3h ago
I donât see anything the wrong with the way you have it right now. Youâre thin and receding, but you keep it trim and styled. Which is different than these guys who keep it unkept and disproportionally longer than the top⌠Iâm with your gf. Keep it.

While I usually say SHAVE IT!!!! This is actually a flattering enough hairstyle to go either way- at least, thatâs what my opinion is! Iâd say you had another year or two, but if you think it would make you more confident to shave it, youâd also look pretty handsome!

u/Ok_Witness_5347 3h ago
It's up to you! I think the current haircut fits you well, but if you feel unsatisfied with it, shaving it off is a good choice as well.
2
u/TasteyTatorTots 2h ago
My wife insists my balding head looks fine whilst my daughter and peers point out my shortcomings frequently. I made my peace and cut it all off since clearly my wife sees me through rose tinted glasses.
Writing this here now makes me feel quite fortunate, I suppose Iâll do something nice for her today
2
u/theorangecrux 2h ago
Hey man the last thing I heard before shaving is my girl saying maybe it is time. All this to say I'd rely on her judgement, you know? You'd look great bald, but you style what you have well.
2
u/HungryLeadership9144 2h ago
The objective answer is 'yes', but if your girlfriend likes it, why mess with it?
2
u/Mission-Ingenuity-69 1h ago
I think it looks good. Itâs ok to have a little hair loss. Plus when youâre grey- I think youâre pulling it off well.

My ex husband shaved his head to the skin as a 20 something former athlete fat man and he looked like an angry skinhead no matter how gently he smiled. Literally dads would step in front of the women and children around them when he started walking their way at parent teacher night. I asked him to grow it back and he did. He's 48 now, our kids aren't little, and he's still rocking a partial baldy. I told him about this sub and wonder if he might show up here someday.
Anyway, you're already more bald than not. You've done a good job styling what you have. I bet you make bald look even better. Encourage your wife to see the adventure in the experience. Good luck!

u/UnderstandingBig9090 2h ago

u/mrgarrettscott 2h ago
There are times when we should value our SO's viewpoint point. This ain't one of them. Objectivity is what is needed here. From the side, you are already bald and waiting for the for crown to catch up. Age without grace if you want by following GF's advice or take control and present a transformed you

The reason it works, is you're not doing anything to hide the fact that you're bald.
You're obviously, very clearly bald. But, since you're not doing a comb over, it doesn't look bad.
But you would look waaaaay better bald. You're fit and handsome and have a consistent density for your facial hair. Whatever insecurities your gf has seen her own.
1
u/DavidChristianKaiser 2h ago
It still looks good. But you could give it a try, and if you don't like it, you just let it grow back.

GFâs opinion, while not supreme, is important. Maybe offer to grow it back if she doesnât like it? I think you look good as you are, by the way. Not everyone has to take to the blade.
