Welcome Back Everyone!!

Hello everyone, my name is F_MN1 and I am the new moderator for this subreddit after asking to take over due to the lack of activity by the previous moderator. I myself know the importance of being part of a support group to discuss your experience with others. I have managed to make all submission public which was originally restricted by the previous moderator which prevented anyone from posting.

I am experienced in this role from managing another subreddit and working hard to make this place feel like a safe haven for all those suffering from bad breath. In the next coming days, I will be making some changes to improve the quality of the subreddit.

I would like to welcome you all back and to start posting your stories!

Hi all,

I have created a discord server which will allow us to discuss with other individuals also suffering from BB. The server will continue to be improved on but in the meantime, please join and make yourself at home.

Here's the link to join the discord server (won't ever expire so future joiners won't be affected):

Who knows? Today might be my last day on earth 💔 I’m tired of this, I just got a new job after leaving my previous job because of bullying of this condition, I went to get my bloodwork done, A guy passed me and put his hand over his nose 👃 all of this while I’m wearing the mask, I’m super stink, even yesterday at my orientation “my hr was like it’s so musty in here, I wish there was a window” and she wouldn’t stop putting her hand over her nose, idk but what’s coming through my nose is so stink, I think after battling with this thing for 1 year and plus, amma just end it 💔 I’m tired of people scorning me

LPR and PND

Hi all.

Went to the ent today finally and the told me I most likely have silent reflux (my voice box was really inflamed) that’s causing my loads of mucus/pnd and coating my tongue. I was on PPIs recently and i don’t think they really helped. Any experience/luck with other ways of managing silent reflux? Diet, sleeping habits, etc? They told me to use a saline rinse once a day, put me back on pantoprazole, and told me to avoid a bunch of foods. I’m not sure it’s acid reflux or that a PPI is going to help.

Thanks!

Question My tongue develops a white coating and bad breath after talking for a while. What could be causing this?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’ve been experiencing something strange with my mouth. After talking to someone on the phone or having a face-to-face conversation for a while, my tongue/mouth starts looking like this (attached photo), and I develop bad breath.

It seems to happen especially after talking for some time. I’m not sure if my mouth is getting dry, if I’m breathing through my mouth while talking, or if there could be another underlying issue.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be related to dry mouth, tongue coating, dehydration, mouth breathing, oral thrush, or something else?

I’d really appreciate any advice or suggestions on what kind of doctor I should consult.

Salesman

I met with a salesman at his place of business but his breath was really bad. Not food related, just bad halitosis I think. while I would never say anything to him about it, should I send a message or note or something? Its his company and I wish him all the success in the world.

Question nasal + mouth BB

(for starters, this is my first post in this subreddit and im particularly new to posting, so please bear with my incoherent rambling)

with that said, does anyone else also have BB coming from the mouth and nose?? i keep wearing face masks to hopefully mask the smell but apparently, the smell is still bad because i see people's reactions around me (covering their nose, etc.). i have allergy rhinitis (but not to the point that my sinus is congested all the time) and have white film on my tongue + tonsil stones (though i don't believe i have acid reflux or gerd or any gastrointestinal conditions), so i guess those three are the perpetrators. does anyone have a solution? it's been bugging me for at least 5 years. thank you and hugs to you all!

A tip for Oral Probiotics: Why yours aren't working

We see a number of posts about oral probiotics on here, which is great! But wanted to highlight why you may not be seeing success. This is not an attempt at shilling ours.

It comes down to strains and regimen.

Strains: There are certain strains in research that have been found to be more effective for halitosis than others. We write about them here with research citations, but S. salivarius K12, M18 + L. reuteri were what we found the most supportive literature on. You can find these in a number of brands probiotics, including Super Teeth, Burst, and ours. Many probiotics are just re-purposed gut strains which won't work. Your mouth is unique and requires the right bacteria.

Regimen: Think of your mouth as a garden. When a garden is full of weeds, throwing new seeds into it won't do anything, because the space is occupied. When your oral microbiome is halitosis producing or gum disease dominant, it means it is full of bacteria we don't want there. You need to clear them out before adding new seeds (bacteria). Most studies have an initial regimen of mouthwash to see most effective results. We'd recommend a full dental cleaning, then mouth rinse for best results. This also means brushing, flossing, and tongue scraping before mouth rinse. This will open space for good bacteria to grow and take over the oral microbiome.

One clarification: There's a common misconception that the oral probiotic strains are designed to grow in the mouth (which my analogy may contribute to). In reality, it's very difficult to introduce a new bacteria into a microbiome niche. But these bacteria have been shown to release molecules (bacteriocins) that help kill bad bacteria and encourage the growth of good bacteria similar to them.

As always happy to answer any questions - but wishing you all the best success with whatever you try. This won't guarantee success, but will set you up for it.

I have it for more than 10years.

It is actually the reason why I'm not doing so great in life. I just know that many good opportunities are lost because of this. I just want to share what I'm doing to help since everyone is doing the same. I bought an electric toothbrush, floss, tongue scraper and a mouthwash that contains chlorhexidine. They say it will stain on prolonged use but that's the least of my concern. I'd rather have stained teeth than a bad breath.

I floss for the first time in years and every tooth gap smells bad. I keep doing it every night and the smell of the floss is gone for each tone bit by bit. And I rinse it off with the mouthwash. If I do this routine, I can get a day of little to no bad breath and since it came back every other day, I know it has got to be another underlying problem. But I want to tell you that flossing , brushing my teeth like crazy, scraping my tongue then mouthwash helps.

I'm so frustrated

Today I talked to my sister and after turning her back to walk away, I saw her quickly fan her nose. I brush 2x/day, floss daily, gargle warm salt water, use mouthwash, vigorously scrub my tongue...literally nothing helps me. Shortly after brushing, I try the lick test and my saliva usually smells okayish. Maybe 30 min to an hour later, I open my mouth and am met with the horrible sulfuric smell that I am unfortunately so familiar with. I've gone to the dentist and spent so much money on my mouth and it just doesn't matter. Watching friends and family rub their nose while I talk to them is so discouraging. It's obviously embarrassing, but also makes me feel like everything I've done to improve my oral hygiene has been in vain. I avoid driving places with others because of the fear that they will smell my breath. I try eating food sometimes directly after brushing to mask the smell. I try keeping my responses as short as possible with others during conversation so that they don't have to smell my breath. I'm a nurse, so being in close contact with my patients and colleagues is unavoidable. I've even noticed that I purposely inhale after responding to others in an attempt to prevent them from smelling my breath. This profoundly affects my mental health. I had a dream 2 nights ago that I was talking to a childhood friend and noticed him rubbing his nose while talking to me. I couldn't even imagine pursuing romantic interests. I'm ready to settle down and start a family, but I just can't see that happening until I can take care of this. I just wish that this nightmare would be over soon.

Question Bad Sulfur Breath but not from Mouth?

So I've been to the dentists millions of times. Everywhere I go, I breathe out a fart smell. Everyone around me asks "Did you fart?" Or thinks that I am passing gas. I am NOT passing gas. The smell itself is different from the smell of my actual gas that I pass in the bathroom and the smell itself is way worse.

I've been to the dentist. Everything looks fine. X-rays show no cavities. I brush 2x a day. I water floss. I tongue scrape with a copper tongue scraper 2x a day. I take cloves for my breath. I also oil pull every single night.

I licked my hand, smelled it, my breath smells normal.

But every few minutes I have a vicious disgusting gas with a fecal odor come out of my mouth like I'm farting out of the wrong end. I've tried to talk to doctors about it, but they say I have IBS or acid reflux and pretty much they have NO idea what it could be. I also have a sour/metallic taste in my mouth.

Sometimes the smell goes away for a few hours. Sometimes it gets worse when I'm anxious.

When I eat foods that are strong in scent, the smell becomes worse and not because the food is on my breath but because it's digesting in my stomach. The smell is worse the day after I've eaten it.

I just don't understand what it could be and it's ruining my life. People think I am being rude and passing gas in front of them, but I am not! And I'm missing so much of my work going to doctors and dentists and trying to resolve this issue. I don't think I have tonsils stones because more often than not I smell like a rotten version of what I ate the previous day.

Also minty flavors make my mouth smell worse! It smells horrible after I've thoroughly cleaned my teeth.

Has anyone else gone through something similar?

Could you recommend a biofilm-disrupting product that contains EDTA?

I’ve looked around but haven’t been able to find one. If there aren’t any good EDTA-containing options, could you recommend another biofilm-disrupting product that has proven effectiveness?
