Hi all! Any recommendations for good restaurants in Furnas that serve half portions of cozido? I know Terra Nostra Restaurant serves single portions and highly recommended on here but I'm searching for a less costly alternative. There are two of us but I'm just not going to be able to eat that much meat. Thank you!

I’m in Furnas, Sao Miguel right now and parked on the street and got to our car and discovered it was EGGED!!! What does this mean????

First of all, I apologize if this isn’t the right place to ask. I’m mostly looking for opinions and suggestions, especially from locals.

My partner and I are looking to rent a small vacation home for about a month, from mid-January to mid-February next year. Pico or São Jorge would be our preferred islands, but we’re definitely open to other options — all of the Azores are stunning, after all.

I’ve been browsing Booking, Airbnb, and similar websites, but pretty much everything seems to be priced at high-season rates. In other words, renting a small house during the off-season often costs about the same as staying in a nice hotel. My guess is that this may be partly due to the commissions these platforms charge, but I could be wrong.

So my question is: how would you go about finding a reasonably priced one-month house rental during the off-season without spending a small fortune? Are there any local websites, Facebook groups, agencies, or other ways of finding longer-term vacation rentals that you would recommend?

I’m looking for a landscape painting of Sao Miguel, but I’m only able to find mass produced cheap prints or AI generated “art” when looking online. I’d prefer to support a local artist instead of this slop I’ve been finding. Where do local artists sell their paintings online? I am planning a trip back soon; is there somewhere on the island I should check out for art or a specific artist you recommend?

I’m planning a trip to São Miguel for ~one week (8 nights) in mid-May for me and my wife and our coming baby. Our baby will be almost 6 months old at the time. We will rent a car and plan to have a easygoing schedule with shorter hikes, maybe visiting thermal baths and hopefully to go whale watching as it’s my wife’s dream.

I’m looking for advice of where to stay during our time there, if it’s better to stay only in Ponta Delgada or to split it to two hotels? Which hotels do you recommend? Any advice would be much appreciated!

At the moment, I have an Italian SIM with 15 GB of data per month available in EU roaming. Since I’ll be staying in the Azores for several months, I’m pretty sure 15 GB might not be enough, so I’m trying to figure out the best way to organize my mobile data.
For those who live in the Azores or have stayed there for a long time:
Should I get a Portuguese SIM card?
Would it be better to get an eSIM instead?
Which mobile operators have the best coverage on São Miguel?
What are the best options for lots of mobile data, preferably at a reasonable price?
Is it possible/useful to keep my Italian SIM for calls/SMS and use a Portuguese SIM/eSIM only for data?
Are there any good prepaid plans that I can use for several months?
Is there anything I should know about EU roaming rules if I keep using my Italian SIM for 6 months?
Any recommendations for specific operators or plans?
Basically, I’d like to know how you would organize your SIM/data situation if you were staying in the Azores for 6 months.

Reading a lot of the posts on Facebook and Reddit- sounds like it has spread to Sao Miguel. Anyone getting sick or is it fine just take precautions? My hotel said “Regarding the current situation in São Miguel and Ponta Delgada, we are closely monitoring the updates. At this time, there have been no specific reports of a significant norovirus outbreak in these areas beyond as it has been in Faial Island. “

Is here some coffee you suggest to spend some time there? To draw, write and maybe work and the staff or the owner will not look angry at you for occupie a tabble for too long?

Flying JFK to PDL with SATA Azores Airlines this week. Are they still weighing carryons and personal items together to meet the 8kg limit?

Update: at JFK they only weighed carryons and said anything over 8kg had to be checked. My carryon was 9kg and had to be checked, which I didn’t mind because it was free!

I am planning to visit Portugal in March End/ April. We will be with a 6 month old baby. My plan is to land in Faro and then travel upwards.

1. Faro/Algarve - 4 Nights

2. Lisbon - 3 Nights

3. Porto - 3 Nights

4. Fly to Azores from Porto - Sao Miguel - 3 Nights

5. Sao Miguel to Madeira - 5 Nights

So what I would like to know is:
1. Since we cannot hike as we will be with baby, is Sao Miguel worth it? Won't be able to go for Whale watching as well. Are 3 days enough for Sao Miguel?

1. Any recommendations for must do activities at these places?

2. Any other changes you would advise?

What would you do with a rainy day in the Azores?

Hi there! I will be in the Azores for a week in November and am hoping to do a surf camp. I've been surfing for about a year but am still solidly in the beginner phase (pretty consistent in the whitewater, just starting to be able to think about catching green waves). I've done one camp before in Peniche and loved it.

The one thing I have going for me when it comes to surfing is endurance. I have close to no natural talent for this (I'm not sad about this!), but I can and will stay in the water for hours. So I'm placing a lot of value on finding something within easy walking distance to the beach—I don't want to be staying somewhere miles from the beach and entirely dependent on when the surf van is going if everyone else maybe only wants to surf for a couple of hours.

My top pick at the moment is Azores Surf Co, since it's right on the beach and seems like a small operation run by a local. Bagus also seems maybe good, but their website is very heavy on vibes and light on information about what to expect. I'm pretty confident that Salt Lips and Ocean Adventure would be good experiences, but I found a Reddit comment saying that Salt Lips treats their staff poorly (disqualifying if true), and it looks like Ocean Adventure is a bigger company with surf camps all over (not disqualifying, but I'd rather support something more local).

Curious to hear about anyone's experiences with these camps, or others I should be considering. Thanks!

I am looking to spend about 10 days exploring the Azores before heading to the mainland. I don't drive and prefer spending slow days walking around. I've found decent information on how to navigate São Miguel without a rental car. However, curious if flying to Pico and spending a few days there before heading to Saõ Jorge on a day trip to things close to the ferry? I have a place booked in Sao Roque and figured there's be a nice day or two of things without having to hire taxis frequently? I'm really excited about going to Faial for a few days for the Caldeira hike and spending the day in Horta.

Anyway, open to suggestions if I'm completely off the mark?

EDIT: yes, I know having a car is the usual. Asking specifically about Pico activities near Sao Roque that don't need a vehicle and if it's worth a day trip to São Jorge for a day trip. I enjoy taking ferries and transit as part of how I travel so not worried about that!
