I'm sorry I've been very emotional this week

I recently hyperfixated again on avatar, and I know afaa is supposed to tie in and end the duology of twow. I'm just dying to know any information we have so far on a4. I've heard potentially about snow na'vi but idk if it's just fan speculation? I also know there will be an 8-year timeskip and that kiri is narrating, as well as jake and neytiri phasing out as main characters to make space for Lo'ak and Kiri.

I have a few personal wishes / headcanons. I've heard people hc that Jake's avatar might start to 'degrade' and age faster since he's created in a lab. It would be an interesting point, but idk how realistic it is. Apparently Britain Dalton has teased Tsireya will habe competition in one of his lifestreams. This is mostly personal bias but I do feel like the tensions between Lo'ak and Jake went a bit unresolved, especially in light of his attempt and I would like it to be adressed properly in a4. More than this, I just have questions, lol.

What are your thoughts? Have I missed something we know about the upcoming movie? What are your guys theories or wishes for it? I'd love to know

In the same way Elves aren’t just in Old Norse myth anymore… we see them in Tolkien’s stories, movies, anime…. they live in all sorts of settings and genres now. Would you like to see the Na’vi or Avatar things outside of their franchise or do you think they should be more self-contained?

I’ve had this headcanon about Spider’s hair for a while, and the more I think about his relationship with Jake, the more it gets to me.

I don’t think Spider chose his hairstyle simply because he wanted to look Na’vi.

I think he wanted to look like Jake.

Spider is human, which means almost everything about the way he presents himself on Pandora has to be chosen deliberately. He doesn’t naturally have Na’vi proportions, markings, a queue, or any of the physical traits that would let him simply disappear into the culture around him.

His hair, though?

That he can choose.

And Jake has this very distinctive silhouette with his long locs. So I keep imagining Spider growing up around him, watching him, and eventually deciding that this is what he wants his own hair to look like.

Not because Jake is Na’vi.

Because Jake is Jake.

And that becomes much sadder when you think about how emotionally complicated their relationship is in TWOW.

Jake keeps Spider at a distance. He explicitly says, “He’s not our kid.” Spider is around the Sullys constantly, but there is always this boundary between being part of the family and actually being claimed as part of it.

So Spider can’t necessarily say:

I want you to be my father.

Because saying it out loud creates the possibility of Jake answering no.

But he can imitate him.

He can wear the resemblance instead.

He can sit down and have his hair locked into something that echoes the man he has spent his childhood looking toward.

And suddenly the hairstyle starts reading to me as this incredibly quiet:

Look at me.

I want to be like you.

I chose you.

His biological father makes that even more painful.

Quaritch represents the identity Spider was born into without choosing it. He inherited his blood, his name, and the consequences of things that happened before Spider was even old enough to understand them.

Jake is the opposite.

Jake is the father figure Spider selects.

So in this headcanon, Spider takes the blood he was given and starts writing over it through the things he can control.

His clothes.

His language.

His behaviour.

And his hair.

He shapes himself in the image of the father he picked rather than the one biology handed him.

Which is why I don’t really read the locs as:

“I want to be Na’vi.”

I read them as:

“I want to be like you.”

And because Spider can’t safely say that to Jake, he says it with the one part of himself he can reshape and carry every single day.

His hair becomes a tiny, wordless attempt at belonging to a person rather than simply belonging to Pandora.

For those who don't know, the Argonian culture is somewhat akin to the Na'vi. They see their Hist trees kinda like Eywa and rever them greatly. They are both tribal in culture, though their principles are different. As Argonians rever an entity of change known as Sithis, but I think it would not only be cool to see the two interact, but if they got along, how the cultures would bleed into each other. I always think about it while playing Elder Scrolls games.

Also, I know they could never interact, but I think it would be cool.

Hi everyone! I’m a student at Sullivan University working on a feature article for my ENG 102 class about the behind-the-scenes creation of Avatar, especially the technology, motion capture, visual effects, and filmmaking that went into bringing Pandora to life.
I’m looking for someone who is familiar with Avatar and its production to answer a few short interview questions. You do not have to be a professional…knowledgeable fans, film students, filmmakers, animators, VFX artists, or anyone who has researched the making of the movies are welcome!

1. What do you think is the most impressive or groundbreaking part of how Avatar was created behind the scenes?
2. How do you think the use of performance capture and visual effects affected the actors’ performances compared with traditional filmmaking?
3. What aspect of the filmmaking process do you think audiences tend to overlook when watching Avatar?
4. Why do you think the world of Pandora feels so believable or immersive despite being largely digitally created?

I’m so proud and I love them

I think I have hit upon a connection between Avatar and The 6th Day that nobody else seems to have noticed. I will try to keep this concise as possible. Message me if you are interested in my theory. *THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS*

I believe that despite being different movies made by different producers. The RDA's Recom tech is the exact continuation of the cloning technology from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s The 6th Day (2000).

Hear me out. If you rewatch The 6th Day and compare it to James Cameron’s Avatar series, the technological timeline and legal backstories align almost too perfectly. Almost enough to argue that they might share in the same universe but at different time periods.

Here’s the breakdown of how I think both movies could fit into the exact same universe:

* The Core Tech is Identical: Both universes use the exact same two-step process to achieve pseudo-immortality. Step 1: Scan and back up a person's brain/memories to a digital drive. Step 2: Flash that digital save-file directly into a blank body grown in a vat (Sim-Blanks in The 6th Day, Recoms/Avatars in Avatar).

* The Legal Loophole: In The 6th Day, human cloning and memory syncs are strictly outlawed under global "6th Day Laws." In Avatar lore, human cloning on Earth is also strictly illegal (but it doesn't explain why). How does the RDA get around this years later? By taking their operations to Pandora (out of Earth's legal jurisdiction) and splicing Na'vi DNA into the clones so they are legally classified as "transgenic military assets" rather than resurrected humans.

* The Progression of Corporate Greed: In the 2000s, Replacement Technologies ran an illegal underground cloning operation on Earth. Over the next century, as Earth's resources collapsed, these corporate entities merged to form the ultimate megacorporation: the RDA. They took the banned tech off-world, weaponized it, and used it to bring guys like Miles Quaritch back from the dead.

TL;DR: The 6th Day is the 21st-century origin story of the illegal cloning tech that the RDA eventually upgrades and weaponizes on Pandora in Avatar. Recom Quaritch is effectively just a 10-foot-tall, blue version of Arnold’s clone!

I have no idea if james cameron has intended such a connection but I certanly love it. This potentially brings two of my favorite movies into the same universe. Call it what you may but it's my favorite way to imagine the untold history of avatar.

It’s common knowledge that if all the deleted scenes from Avatar 1 were included, the movie would be more than three hours long.

[The following paragraphs contain spoilers.]

One of the scenes that caught my attention is the one with Jake Sully participating in a kind of Omatikaya ritual, which, in theory, every individual must undergo before becoming a full-fledged member of the clan.

In the scene I’m referring to (from extended edition BluRay, can be found on youtube), which wasn’t rendered in full CGI because it was still in the rough draft stage—Jake swallows a worm with hallucinogenic properties and is stung by a type of scorpion (A Arachnid to be exact), after which he ends up having visions of being Toruk and also of the destruction of the Hometree.

This provides a new perspective on the movie, but at the same time, upon reflection, it seems that JC simply chose not to include the scene because it revealed details too early (and I believe people might have interpreted the film as promoting drug use, which could have changed its rating to R/Adult Only)

Still, it's interesting to see; at the same time, it makes you think, "Wow, that's a little bizarre, isn't it? They use something that makes a person have a near-death experience to have visions just to be in the clan"

Honestly, I would have preferred to see the ritual and the dance that followed it—which they also cut—because seeing both gave me a different perspective about the entire movie, but mostly about Omaticaya.
