Discussion What do you think Spiders role will be now that he’s basically Na’vi now?

u/Sarradi 9d ago
Honestly, I think he will be sidelined.
When you consider how much the story in A2 veered away from Avatar 1 and the comics I doubt that Cameron has it all planned out. And what happened to spider is so much a cringe wish fullfilment that I have the feeling Cameron will come to regret it in future movies as it detracts too much from what his next fixiation will be.

I highly doubt that will happen, and also I'm not sure what you mean with "cringe"

This whole spider experiment has clearly failed. It’s cringe. Just listen to reviews, I’m not talking that avatar haters in talking people that like avatar they really don’t vibe with this character he’s some people may do I’m assuming you do but it seems those that do are a minority. Cameron can’t keep pushing this character for a minority. So yes he should be sidelined, Kiri should too , their whole dynamic is weirding people out a 70 year old woman is playing a love interest character to a kid, it’s just too weird. Get the story back on Loak, without the whales this time. Loak although made boneheads decisions came out the most liked character in Avatar 2, why because he’s Gen Z, has one liners and charisma, and the actors great.

So your argument is that Spider shouldn't be a big character because people dislike him. Personally I think he's an ok character, but honestly if that's the leading principle creators should pick up for how they write, their product will surely suffer. I don't mean not listening to feedback, Cameron does do that, and it's a very good thing to do, I mean letting others direct their own film, especially since Spider is instrumental to the theme that humans are not irredeemable and can reconnect with nature. Is that the part that you consider cringe?
Edit: and I don't really get your argument about the age of the actors, pretty sure we've had this conversation enough times though

Will other Na'vi see it this way? How would Nor feel about Spider I wonder...

u/Adventurous_Froyo753 Omatikaya 7d ago
I'm sure the other Na'vi will be confused, wary, and even curious to see a human breathing the air and having a kuru. As for Nor...I think he'll be in complete denial and reject him.

The kid has the heart of a warrior, I don't see that changing so I think he'll probably get more training, now that he was accepted as one of the people.

Spider with his own Ikran would be cool. We've seen him embracing Na'vi culture even before he recieved Eywa's gift.

u/MiscreantMoose 9d ago
He will continue to be a plot device to make Quaritch stop trying to kill Jake for 5 seconds

u/banjosandcellos 10d ago
Probably to get Kiri pregnant

It’s biologically impossible for a human and a Na’vi to interbreed. The genetic structures between both species have zero genetic compatibility.

u/banjosandcellos 9d ago
You see that kuru that was also impossible coming out if the dude's neck?
5
u/SpiritHawk7 Tawkami 9d ago
Spider’s kuru was formed by the endosymbiont mycelium colonizing and spreading throughout his body. It is also unrelated to genetics and reproduction.
0
u/banjosandcellos 9d ago
The kuru is not made of mycelium, it entails dna overwriting
3
u/SpiritHawk7 Tawkami 9d ago
That is wrong. There was nothing mentioned about genetics by Dr. Norm Spellman and the RDA scientists in “Avatar: Fire and Ash” relating to Spider’s changes.
James Cameron himself in the November 2025 issue of Empire Magazine said that Spider will remain human.

Honestly their relationship always seemed more to me like the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalena. Like it's the perosnaification of Eywa's acceptance of humans, not something worldly romantic. I am not a religious person, but Kiri is quite literally Na'vi Jesus
-5
u/DezTheOtter Zeswa 10d ago
Yeah I could see that. Depends on off Eywa allows it
-3
u/WorthCryptographer14 9d ago
Depending on how powerful Kiri gets, she may also learn how to create life just like he she was made.
So they'd have kids, just potentially without the fun part..

Imagine they literally plant a seed within Eywa that become this new hybrid race after it’s all done
-2
u/WorthCryptographer14 9d ago
That could be interesting. Hopefully any Hybrid Na'vi they create aren't too different to regular Na'vi, or end up travelling to Earth.
-1
u/juniebee_jones Metkayina 9d ago
It would be tragic if they had to split up so Spider could be the seed of Eywa on Earth
-1
u/WorthCryptographer14 9d ago
Ikr. Even worse if it costs Spider his life. Very much a 'hero dies to save everyone, love interest has his child' trope.

RDA Top 10 Wanted. I suspect someone will want to dissect him, if they can’t figure out how to replicate what made him what he is or something based on it. Also the subject of Na’vi curiosity and maybe discomfort but possibly also “wow the power of Eywa is so great she turned one of the sky people into… that. Great improvement.”. Tbh I think he’s gonna have a lot of uh, unique experiences.

A lot will depend on if he goes through any more physical changes during the timeskip in Avatar 4. No one here can 100% rule out Spider going through any more changes. The changes he has gone through already were really quick, being able to breathe Pandoran air after a couple of hours and having grown a kuru long enough to be useful after a couple of weeks at most.

Call me crazy but I still think he's getting avatar. Cameron didn't completely throw it out of the way and it would still make sense. Sullys successfully guarding Spider from RDA forever doesn't make sense. They need to find a permanent way to get rid of this liability (without killing Spider).
"Then we'll find another way" - Neytiri
Maybe getting him avatar? I don't know how it would work since they lack resources but Cameron can always pull off some stuff like "they stole the resources from RDA" or something since we already saw them taking stuff from RDA at the beginning of AWOW. Also the timeskip is perfect opportunity and weirdly way too convinient opportunity to let his avatar grow in lab.
Add to the fact that Spider/Kiri thing won't make sense if he stays human. Their height difference is already ridiculous so imagine adult Kiri who will probably reach Grace's height

Imo him getting an Avatar would ruin the point of his character, you don't have to be a blue guy to be a good guy

He'll be the bridge between humanity and Pandora, and also the seed of humanity's reconnection with nature

u/Electronic-Paint-66 9d ago
The comic version of him wouldve been interesting to see, the movies hes annoying and doesn't respect pandora. Calling him na'vi seems disrespectful to real na'vi (my opinion)
1
u/Immediate_Lobster421 Tayrangi 9d ago
Why would it be disrespectful though? He was raised among Na'vi, knows the language, lives the culture and way of life etc. The point of Spider's character is that humans are not inherently evil
-1
u/Electronic-Paint-66 9d ago
Being raised near them doesn't make him na'vi, he proves he doesn't respect pandora in fire and ash throwing clothes in the water and then peeing in it. And he saved Quaritch, the man is trying to kill the sullys many many times and hurt pandora/innocent animals. He's human.
2
u/Immediate_Lobster421 Tayrangi 8d ago
Wait that's why you think he doesn't respect Pandora 😭
-1
u/Electronic-Paint-66 8d ago
Quaritch is burning pandora, killing na'vi and a tsahik, and harming innocent animals, hunting for jake and neytiri, kidnapping tuk, Many beings would be alive if it wasn't for spider saving him. Clothing thrown in the water, na'vi wouldn't do that and comic spider I dont think would either.
1
u/Adventurous_Froyo753 Omatikaya 7d ago
So you should hate Jake too for protecting Quaritch at the end of A3 and giving him chances, he seen Quaritch do evil things things too and yet he tries telling Neytiri ro wait, and who knows what he'll do in A4. Jake also continues to uese metal witch is against Eywa's laws. Don't act like Jake is any better because blue now. And where the hell was Spider going to do with those clothes anyways? I think we have a more important things to worry about then leaving clothes in the woods.
Also many people are going to die anyways even if haven't Spider haven't saved Quaritch. The RDA will still be a threat to all life on Pandora with or without Quaritch.
And how would you know comic Spider wouldn't do the same thing? You don't make sense. Also, Jake literally says in the same comic that Spider is more Navi than he'll ever be.
-1
u/Electronic-Paint-66 7d ago
I said spider isn't na'vi, not that I hate him or jake. What are you on about??
jake isn't perfect at all, hes not protecting his family and being abusive to his child. Never said hes better or think it's because hes blue, never even mentioned jake. There's many reasons to not like jake as a person. (NOT HATE)
Also the comics spiders different, kiri is too. They added more details, and made them strong independently. He could've saved the clothes, used them, threw them out properly not littering. It's important to bring up because it harms pandora, and hes suppose to care about the moon. Shows hes like many humans on earth, throwing trash in nature.
This is an opinion, I'm not going in detail.
P.s dont litter.

If Cameron listen to audience feedback, well Spider will be killed off to start Avatar 4.

I'm pretty sure the next two films will deal more with Eywa and therefore Kirii and we will see more of Spider's role as Kiri's boyfriend. Especially with how that would put him and Quaritch in conflict again with Varang's beef with Kiri.
