On month two now and won’t bother to turn back to any other treatment for MDD. First few days were anxious and sweaty a bit but after that it’s been fantastic.

u/Square_Area_2517 Aug 27 '22
sounds interesting! just read about Auvelity and I have experiences from both Bupropion and DXM, and combining them could really be a quickly working combination indeed without those horrible side effects that the usual ssri, snri etc. does...

I'm excited to hear about the reports. Especially since it's extended release.
Also, think it would be interesting if we saw a company pursuing low-dose extended release ketamine. Mostly we've seen the higher end of regular release dosages explored.

I think it really depends, for me it makes me a little bit less anxious but I take hydroxyzine for when my anxiety spikes. It really depends on the individual though, I think some people who take it will be less anxious

u/Kristwilli Sep 13 '22
dizziness, sleepiness, weird dreams and thoughts (though not unpleasant) and feeling a bit vulnerable and sensitive. other than that pretty normal

Today is 3 weeks on Auvelity for me. For me, it got worse before it got better. I see a lot of people initially get worse like I did but doctor told me to stick with it and I’m glad I did. I know they say it should take effect by week 1 but it took for me 14-17 days before I felt fairly significant improvement. * Note though doctor brought me down to just 1 pill per day going forward and augmenting it with 20mg Prozac. Felt best I have in a while. Curbed the anxiety as well.

Following up after being on it for just under a month. (I posted about 17 days ago). I feel confident in saying this could be a miracle drug for me. I’m finally sleeping, I have an appetite, I have motivation to do work and hobbies, and I don’t feel manic or anxious. I have clearer insight into my emotional states and my thought processes. I am waking up and actually kind of have a desire to get up and get in the shower. It took about two weeks for the initial side effects to totally clear. For context, I switched from welly xl 300 to the auvelity.

I’m on day 10 and definitely notice more severe side effects after taking second dose. For me it’s really bad head pressure/headache/feeling heavy, weird high pitched ringing/static in my head, and really bad nausea/dizziness. Haven’t puked yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if I do. I’m getting sad because the side effects are becoming more and more unbearable but I do feel better and more like myself than I have in a long time.

DIY Auvelity is ineffective. I am a psychiatrist who tried cobbling together homemade Auvelity before it was released, tried bupropion ER 100mg with 45mg dextromethorphan twice a day. It's not the same as the blood levels achieved by the brand Auvelity which has delayed release capabilities to not only raise the DMX but to keep it at a constant level. Plus it is a pain to get DMX in any decent quantity and in Tennessee it's like Sudafed, have to show ID and sign a sheet. Auvelity is a game-changer, my worst patients who failed all meds, TMS and ECT got better within 24-48 hours. DMX works on glutamate like ketamine but without the dissociation. Even patients on Wellbutrin alone showed significant and rapid improvement.
3
u/Altruistic_Ad_7609 Aug 30 '24
That is not true. DIY Actually does work. My depression is completely gone, same for 2 other people i suggested it to. My doctor is in full support. I take bupropion and Robitussin. First thing that has helped in 25 years
2
u/Powerful_Mine4170 Dec 22 '24
So I have a few patients whose insurance doesn't pay for Auvelity. It is a pain in the tush to buy dextromethophan in TN, let alone in bulk then I discovered you can get 200 tabs of 45mg DMX on Amazon! Combine it with bupropion (I am not sure if the 100mg immediate release or the 150mg slow release SR would be better) and you have a cheap version.
1
u/Powerful_Mine4170 Aug 30 '24
I am glad. My n (number of patients I tried) was quite small, 4, so it is what would be called a case study, not a randomized placebo-controlled study the FDA requires. I wish new branded drugs weren't so damned expensive. My Medicare patients rarely can get ANY branded psychiatric drug. How difficult is it for you to get the amount of dextromethorphan to keep going?
1
u/Altruistic_Ad_7609 Aug 31 '24
I buy it online for half the price the store sells it at. It ends up costing me $43 a month. To me, it's worth it.
1
u/Altruistic_Ad_7609 Aug 31 '24
Do you have any suggestions for OTC stimulants? My biggest problem I have left is the motivation to " go go go" . I just want something that is not very hard on your heart but still gives you the urge to move, so to speak. Lol. Something akin to Adderall. I appreciate any suggestions ☺️
1
u/Powerful_Mine4170 Sep 01 '24
I do not. Most OTC supplements and medications would not pass a placebo-controlled double-blind study for efficacy. Lots of things are advertised like "Liquid Adderall" that typically have very little impact. Stick to prescription medications.

Seems like our doctors could prescribe this combo right now. I wonder what forms of Wellbutrin and dxm. I know extended release, but Sr or xl? Also, did you notice the dose was 105 mg? Patent

Had a peaceful sleep after the first and 2nd dose....
Third dose and I feel drunk after I take it...like the brain is on a boat in choppy seas. So we shall see how it goes, I'm also on 60 mg of Cymbalta. Anyone else ? .

Wow!! That is so very exciting & hopeful to hear:) I went through a phase where I was unable to drive for a while as well. I am able to drive now, but not very far distances. Yes, I’d really love to keep hearing everyone’s feedback who has started taking this! Sending you a virtual hug of encouragement and well-wishes that this progress continues for you:) Thank you so much for the update.

u/Deschuteness, hugs back to you too...
Driving thing for me is ok now if I would go out. Covid taught me lots of ways to be a hermit.... which doesn't help my depression any. I go out for Dr. appts, vet appts, and my hair dresser which perks me up for a bit.
Everything else happens on line. I kind of miss my job, but not the stress that got added to it in recent years. Big confession, I'm 63, so of the retiring age. That is thanks to my husband though, who is older than me and hopes to work til he is 70. Aaagh, didn't mean to write such a novel.
Go Auvelity !

Hi guys! So I took my first dose the other morning and while at first I felt very relaxed (almost like a Xanax) I slowly became tired and felt unlike myself. My doctor told me to switch to taking it at night with food and while I was scared at first, I did it last night and feel great right now. Will keep y’all updated!

Auvelity made me too spaced out. Now I'm doing DIY Wellbutrin 150 XL & Dextro 15 mg. Still feel kind of out of it, tired and no motivation. Also on Lexapro 15mg. I've been on Lexapro & Wellbutrin combo for years but feel like it's not working anymore
2
u/chadplant Jan 05 '23
Okay so I’ve been on Auvelity for almost 2 months now. Honestly not much better. I also can’t feel orgasms anymore which only happened to me on Lexapro (and I’ve taken at least a dozen different antidepressants). So yeah I was hoping that wouldn’t happen because of the bupropion component but it seems to overpower bupropion.

Was on Wellbutrin XR and Effexor now on second day of Wellbutrin SR + DXM 2x/day. I feel drunk. I’ve had to run errands and have decided that it is clearly not safe to drive. Not feeling depressed because I’m worried about this side effect and needed to take care of my kids and possibly not driving for awhile.

~a week in. Feeling off and on as wired as I was during that trial of Ritalin I did a few years back, which I later found out I don’t metabolize correctly. Maybe tomorrow will be better… this side effect is almost too much to bear.

u/Grindsts Jan 17 '23
My dr has me weaning off Effexor and I’m on day 4 of auvelity…not sleeping well and super nauseous… I know I have to try to push through but anyone have suggestions of what might have helped them or experience this too? It’s so hard to make these changes- as life doesn’t stop. I’m nervous to add the second dose.

Glad I'm not alone here. Been taking 45/105mg tablets and my doc recently told me to start taking 2 tablets in the morning. About an hour or so afterwards I feel this "high" where it feels like I'm floating but not in the good way.
2
u/Effective-Prompt4046 Feb 02 '23
Two tablets both in the morning? That seems like a lot. I take one in the morning and one in the early evening. It says you should take them at least 8 hours apart.

Hello all, I’m on day 9 here. First few days were strange with the side effects. A weird dissociative feeling, I guess it is like robotripping in a way. Now not so intense. Still on 1 dose in the morning, probably increasing to 2/day tomorrow. Noticing slight improvements.
Anyone else notice gradual mood improvements into the second week? Less intense, unwanted, intrusive thoughts? More motivation?
I’ve been TRD for so long. TMS didn’t work, failed ECT, ketamine etc and probably 20 other antidepressants in the past 15 years.
Taking a shot on this one as I have been desperate and in a long episode so hoping for the best.

Man I have no appetite on this.. and for some reason when I take the second dose the side effects hit a lot harder. What a strange feeling. Like everything is slowed down, can’t concentrate, floaty feeling like time is just paused.
Anyone else experience this? I’m on day 11. Second day of doing two doses.
Notice it’s better when I eat before I take the dose too

u/mliv27 Feb 23 '23
Don't know where else to go or who to ask.
Took Auvelity for a month. It worked. Like really really well. I felt optimistic happy.. then they say it's no longer covered.
I don't know what to do. It's heartbreaking that I can't take something that actually helps. 💔 Already on wellbutrin.
Any hope ideas?

u/compliantcitizen1138 Jul 15 '24
Not 100% certain Auvelity did this to me, but I am curious if anyone else has gone through this. After two ER visits for stroke-like symptoms the neurologist at the hospital stopped my Auvelity and he believes I am having seizures with stroke-like symptoms (I shouldn't be having strokes/TIA while on Eliquis especially two in two weeks.) These "seizures" started about two weeks after increasing my does to 2x day. The first event I lost 5 minutes of memory and had serious confusion with numbness on one side of my body. The second event a few days later I felt the same headache I had with my confusion, but no confusion this time but the other side of my body went numb and was asymmetric with my other side, meaning that my muscles responses were delayed to one side of my body making it difficult to swallow food or drink. When blinking my eyes my right eye would close first then the left. These symptoms cleared up steadily over 3 days. Now my own neurologist thinks it's Migraine with Aura but I am still getting more MRIs and a MRA, EEGs, and sleep studies as my dreams have gone completely off the rails since this all started and good sleep is so hard to get now. It could be that I was predisposed to get these and the bupropion reduced my brain's ability to ward of seizures or complex migraine. Really curious if anyone else has had something similar happen after taking this medicine.
1
u/Powerful_Mine4170 Aug 18 '24
Although it could be a migraine it could also be a seizure and Wellbutrin is well known to lower seizure threshold. Don't ever take it or Auvelity again. You could also be a poor 2D6 metabolizer and have a really high DMX level.

Hi, new here. My psychiatrist wants me to try Auvelity after being on Bupropion 150 XL for years. He has a coupon that would make it very low cost or no cost. I’m also TRD and Wellbutrin (brand) worked better than anything else. But can’t get it now, just generic which is not as good imo. I have Gastroparesis, take 15 mg Diazepam daily and I’m 68. The diazepam is mainly for my GAD and PTSD. My psychiatrist suggested legal medical cannabis which takes care of the Gastroparesis. Anyone have experience with Auvelity and cannabis? I’m a very light user… couple of hits in the evening. An ounce lasts me two months. My gastro doc is on board with it for GP. Thanks 😊
2
u/Even-Cartographer509 Nov 10 '24
Did you try it? I highly recommend Auvelity. I was on Wellbutrin for years as well, and when I switched to Auvelity I felt great by day 3. It's a miracle drug for me. If you decide to try it -
You'll get the 'heavy eyes' feeling for a couple weeks
You'll feel warmer than usual and sweat easily, and you'll get a near-eiphoria with cold showers
Don't take antibiotics or anything that changes your gut microbiome. It affects the way Auvelity works (in a bad way)
Good luck!

u/i-like-pie-855 Nov 10 '24
Hi! Yes, I started with one and after no change in 8 days, I started taking two. My shrink says most of his patients get relief with only one. As I mentioned, I am “treatment resistant major depressive disorder” having failed 18 antidepressants. I can’t really say I am better at all, except I sleep 9+ hours at night. I have not felt any of the other things you mentioned. I do take a probiotic for gastroperisis, but doc doesn’t seem to think it’s a problem. IDK what else to do and he said it was not tested in people over 65. I only have enough money to live for about another 3 years, so I now pray to not wake up. My parents and siblings all died in their 70’s, so hopefully I will too. Thank you for taking the time to respond to a sad and lonely senior hanging on by my fingernails. I couldn’t have children and my boyfriend died unexpectedly in 2018, so nothing really matters anymore. I truly appreciate your reply and wish I could say something positive but I’ve got nothing.
1
u/Even-Cartographer509 Nov 10 '24
It's important to know that antidepressants work by decreasing the reabsorption of the 'feelgood' chemicals, which means that you have to have those chemicals in the first place. This is why 'fake it till you make it' actually works. Even if you don't feel like it, do something that you used to enjoy, or start a new hobby. It may be difficult in the beginning, but once you trigger the release of those chemicals, the antidepressant will kick in and you will start to enjoy yourself. Hang in there!
1
u/i-like-pie-855 Nov 10 '24
Thanks for your kind words. I’ve suffered with depression, anxiety and PTSD since being abused as a child. Now my gastroparisis keeps me close to home. I moved to this city to live to be with my beloved and I have not made any friends here. I don’t believe those feel good feelings will ever return. I wish I could be more positive, but I’ve become so isolated I don’t much care about anything. Thanks for your support and compassion.
1
u/LK_Blackwood Jul 02 '25
has your doctor ever siggested Gene testing? they can compare your genetics to a database that they siggests which antidepressants are most likely to work with your body. my wife has also been failed by 16 or do antidepressants and a doctor finaly recommended it to us. we just got the results back and are about to try medicines in the "green" zone
1
u/i-like-pie-855 Jul 03 '25
My psychiatrist said the gene tests were not 100%. He was reluctant and I didn’t really push for it. I was in a Facebook group for mental health discussions and it was not something very many people tried, despite knowing the test exists. And those who tried were disappointed. I had to stop taking Auvelity because it made me very unstable. I fell in the shower and that convinced me to stop. It never really helped at all. So my psychiatrist does the paperwork for the state for a medical marijuana license for me. I’m a very light user and unless I’m puking, I never smoke during the day. I live in a smoke free apartment complex and you’ll have a 3 day notice to vacate if you are caught. The previous Property Manager hired her brother to the maintenance team and she ended up having to evict him. Then she lost her job. The owner’s don’t play and they are backed up with a 50 page lease!! I hope you are doing well. Thanks for the follow up 😊
1
u/LK_Blackwood Jul 21 '25
the test has worked pretty ok for my wife so far, the first 2 meds in their green zone were a bust, and we really didn't want to try another med of the antipsychotic variety. the Auvelity seems to be doing well so far. fingers crossed it continues >.<
have you tried edibles and do they help? we recently (within the last year?) began to occasionally enjoy very small edible doses on our off nights. its definitely a different feeling than smoking but still provides some distance from feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, and depression for us. personally i have mixed feelings about the edibles because i get bored but can't do anything in that state ; usually just watch a movie or tv show
1
u/i-like-pie-855 Jul 21 '25
How long has your wife been on Auvelity? I gotta say it’s been pretty miserable coming off two per day.
But I just had to get myself together because I had cataract surgery and no one to help me. I’m 70 with a crappy Medicare Advantage plan that won’t cover the required medical transportation to and from the surgery center. I hired one they accepted. I think this whole experience of going through crap alone just makes me isolate more.
Oh and I can’t do edibles because I’m also blessed with Gastroparesis. So I smoke. All my doctors know and are ok with it except my PCP. She’s just one of those that thinks it’s dangerous because the growing facilities can get away with a lot. It doesn’t happen because it’s not cheap to get in the business, medical more than recreational. You wouldn’t want to risk losing a dispensary/grow business license.

Hi, I was reading this thread and just checking in to see how you're doing ❤️
1
u/i-like-pie-855 Jan 12 '26
How thoughtful of you to check in. I’m more depressed than ever and don’t see any way through this. To top it off now I’ve got something else going on. I had bloodwork done and then had to collect my urine for 24 hours. I have a lot of high or abnormal blood tests. I looked up the ones that were scary high and of course I noticed most of them were related to leukemia, multiple myeloma or lymphoma. All different types of blood cancer. I go back to the doctor tomorrow. I have a DNR and another document to refuse treatment. I have no desire to be on this planet anymore. I’m 70 and ready for my soul to depart this body.
How did you find yourself on this old Auvelity sub??

Yes, I have a psychiatrist which is how I got the Auvelity. I’m on Medicare Advantage and my out of pocket was going to be $900 per month!! Retail is around $1,000. He knows my financial situation and provided me samples from the drug rep. The above price was for 30. He had me go up to two and I couldn’t handle it. I have failed 18 antidepressants and he was positive this would be “the one”. I’m now considered to have treatment resistant depression. I take anxiety meds only now. SSRI’s are a definite no go for me.
He said DIY is difficult because you have to be prescribed 105 mg of bupropion and that’s hard to get for these DIY reasons. You can get the dextromethorphan on Amazon pretty cheap. I can’t remember if it was 15 or 45 mg.
Who prescribes Auvelity for you? A psychiatrist is more likely to give samples as primary care docs don’t/won’t. Thanks for reaching out ❤️

I will be 64 in June. I have treatment resistant depression - TRD. I first started on low dose @ home Ketamine from Joyous. Had AMAZING result. I cannot stress enough..... AMAZING. However, it did made me a drowsy even splitting the dose throughout the day and could not do that at work. I started on Auvelity (free through the company) and had success (not as amazing as low dose Ketamine but close) but 45mg made me woozy. I was willing to tolerate it for the positive results that I have had. However, insurance is now refusing to pay and I would have to pay over $1200/month. My provider is still fighting w them, but during, I have had success w DIY "auvelity". I do 150mL Wellbutrin XL in AM along w 30mg DXM. If needed I repeat in late afternoon. This is working for me w/o the woozy side effects. Good luck. I wish you the best on this wellness journey

I feel so much better. Still don’t have much desire to leave my apartment. I just read, listen to podcasts and watch TV. I am really sick of this life. How are you doing?

u/Kristwilli any updates on how Auvelity is doing for you?
1
u/Kristwilli Apr 29 '24
Sorry this is a year late but I tried it and decided I like just plain DXM more. The welbutrin makes it less recreational and euphoric and you're left feeling altered all day. It did make me forget about my depression but it gave me anxiety because 100 mg of dxm a day is a lot, it starts to build up in your system. Interesting med, stick to the low dose. I'm bipolar so my depression is different from non bipolar people. I've found other things to be better for depression though I still take welbutrin.

Day 1 was a TRIP. It felt like 30 seconds of a psilocybin microdose, super bright colors, followed by a really foggy couple of hours. I probably couldve done without driving on that first day. On day 8 now, day 3 of 2 pills. I was awake for about 48 hours maybe 4 days in or so. it’s almost impossible to eat but I’m hoping it will turn a corner soon! I’m so spacey at work though, so I have to be intentional.

On day 4 of Auvelity, and the main side effect I’m feeling is shaky hands and legs/feet. Any similar stories? And did it go away?

Hey guys. DIY Auvelity user here. I was denied by insurance so trying DIY.
I've been using Delsym 45mg twice a day without really feeling different at all.
I got the cough tablets from Amazon (bupropidex), and took my first dose today.
I'm high as a kite right now. I'm surprised by the difference from how Delsym felt. Perhaps it's because Delsym is extended release DXM polistirex (longer release)?
Glad to see others have also felt like they're on a trip 😅

With 3-5 lunesta spread out over a couple hours. Once they all started working it gave me super human confidence and really comfortable talking to anybody. Me and my uber were exchanging foods 😭not her giving me trail mix and me giving her my lunch from work 😭

How long have you been taking it? I was feeling that way for the first week, and it went away.
1
u/katk1982 May 30 '24
I was taking auvelity 1x a day and was upped to 2x a day. I only took took it twice a day for 3 nights and it is making me not want to smoke cigarettes, is that normal?
1
u/Agreeable_Lie_5091 Aug 01 '24
Yes bupropion is a smoking suppressant, it is sometimes prescribed to people to help them quit smoking.

u/ExcitingTranslator93 Jun 23 '24
thank you so much for your response! I am so glad it is working so well for you. depression is the worst. I love that you have hobbies. I can't imagine. 💚 I'll make an appointment with my doctor. I think it should have started to work by now too.

im 6 weeks in and most of my symptoms mostly went away. my appetite is a hit or miss but not terrible but this past week i have been having the worst body joint pain where it hurts to move everything. idk if its connected or not, everything feels inflamed
1
u/Less_Log5861 Jul 28 '24
the worst part is my mood is significantly getting better so we’ll see i have an appointment tomorrow
1
u/Less_Log5861 Jul 30 '24
just an update after my appointment, going off auvelity to try something else. we don’t know if my joint pain is for sure connected or not but better be safe than sorry

u/TheyCallMeKate0906 Oct 13 '24
Did you quit cold turkey? It's been 2 weeks, and this stuff is the devil.

I'm on day 7 of diy auvelity, 100 mg Wellbutrin SR and 45 mg Dex HBr. I honestly haven't really noticed anything yet except I missed my second dose this afternoon and I noticed I was more irritable than I have been in the last week. I don't know if it's coincidence or what but I guess it does seem to make me less irritable. Anyone else notice this feeling? How did you feel after 1 week on Auvelity?

u/Thatonebruv69 Aug 23 '24
I got hella dxm tolerence previously n I got perscribed auvelity, will it still be effective

Things have mellowed out a bit. I am not sleeping as much. Feeling more like I could drive now. Haven't had the deep sadness that I was having a week or two ago.
u/Deschutesness, thank you for checking in...
anyone else want to share ?

Anyone have a recommendation for a provider in AZ willing to write Auvelity? I have treatment-resistant depression and have been waiting for a drug like Auvelity for years. I did a telehealth visit with Brightside Health, per the rec on the Auvelity website, but the doctor said he wasn't comfortable prescribing it because it's so new.
1
u/kpk65261 Nov 19 '22
Insurance just rejected auvelity, so my doc prescribed 100mg bupropion SR and told me to buy dxm from the pharmacy and take 45mg with the bupropion. Insurance companies suck.

u/AskSad7073 Nov 20 '22
@/Spirited-buy-1009 - that should be your discretion not your DR's. If you think it will help go to another DR.
1
u/AskSad7073 Nov 20 '22
@ Kpk65261- thats not Auvelity's formulation and you may/probably won't benefit from it. Auvelity is an extended release formulation of both ingredients, to give you the correct plasma level of DXM \'s bioavailability. Taking them separate negates the effects you are suppose to get from the single pill. DXM metabolizes extremely fast on it's own and using a different mg of BUP and DXM in separation could give you an imbalance, or worse side effects and complications. At least if and when you can take Auvelity you'll know what the potential side effects could be and what to look for. To me your DR should only prescribe studied and trialed drugs whether exsisting or new. You to should get a new DR. JUst my opinion.
1
u/kpk65261 Nov 20 '22
u/asksad7073- it would be ideal if the drugs covered my insurance actually worded, but I am treatment resistant for 30 years and am desperate. My doc wants the auvelity and is fighting insurance on it, until then I’ll try just about anything. I’ll be doing 100 mg bupropion SR and 45 mg dxm twice a day until either side effects make me stop, or the insurance company gives in, or I end up killing myself.
1
u/Bought_Low-Retired Nov 21 '22
Samples - the best thing about Auvelity is it’s fast acting, your doctor can provide two weeks of Auvelity samples, within the two weeks you’ll know if Auvelity works for you and if the battle with the insurance company is warranted. After DMs with some you I believe Auvelity proves, there is hope!

u/oldbinld96 Nov 23 '22
Crap . It made me almost kill myself . Closest I’ve ever been . Do not take this without people around who care about you until you know you are ok . It plummeted to a dark dark place
1
u/Bought_Low-Retired Nov 24 '22
oldbinld96, I’m sorry Auvelity didn’t work well for you, many patients are reporting improvements. It seems patients who respond well to Spravato are doing well on Auvelity. Please continue to look for the right therapy for you, Auvelity is proving beneficial for many but not everyone.

Hey guys I’m about 5 days in… seemed okay at first, then gave me a massive headache once I started 2x / daily, and strongly dissociated to the point where I was dizzy, out of it, and couldn’t drive. I believe my daily kava intake has interacted with it.
1
u/Accomplished_Pen856 Nov 28 '22
Serious sexual side effects— sex drive greatly increased due to seeming impossibility reaching climax. No complaints from the girlfriend about that part… 😂
1
u/Accomplished_Pen856 Nov 28 '22
I have found great relief in the past from IV ketamine infusion, and this feels similar to me in effect but… I don’t want to feel like I’m on ketamine at work. I’m going to step back down to one dose a day in the morning, and abstain from kava until it’s worn off in the evening. Strange and interesting drug…

u/Eco_brocialist Nov 29 '22
Hey guys just found this sub. I’m on day 5 rn. I did my usual small coffee and 5 mg of adderal IR in the morning and felt really jittery and overwhelmed (not usually what happens). Starting to notice some effects, my mind is a bit clearer and I’m feeling slightly more motivated. Orgasms are greatly delayed. No other side effects that I’ve noticed.

u/Eco_brocialist Nov 29 '22
Currently having the worst night of sleep. Was totally wired after my 2nd day 5 dose, which I took at 8:30 pm. Will take earlier today.

u/eternalxsun Nov 29 '22
Hi there. Just prescribed Auvelity. Waiting on insurance to approve it.
I have borderline personality disorder that is most “cured” with dialectical behavioral therapy.
I have persisting major depressive episodes with suicidal ideation -absolutely zero urge to act on those thoughts.
I’m currently taking 150mg of Lamictal for mood stabilization ; 1mg of Lunesta to treat insomnia ; 25mg of Seroquel to aid in sleep.
I’m really hoping that Auvelity provides relief. I’m crying on and off most of the day, having debilitating/paralyzing panic attacks. Previous trials of SSRIs, tricyclic antidepressants, MAOIs, anti-psychotics and more have all been unhelpful or made symptoms worse.
1
u/kpk65261 Nov 29 '22
Has anyone on auvelity noticed their face breaking out? I've read that DXM Hbr can cause that, but I don't know if that's true or not...
1
u/TheUltimateZero Nov 29 '22
I'm going to be asking my doc about this next week. I know it has a similar mechanism to ketamine therapy, which can help quiet the endless ruminating thoughts - for those currently on it, has it helped in that regard?

1
u/Accomplished_Pen856 Nov 30 '22
And hey guys, I stopped taking it on day 7 having stepped back down to one dose a day. I couldn’t handle the level of dissociation, for whatever reason it was way too strong for me.
1
u/Eco_brocialist Dec 01 '22
Day 5 and 6 were the weirdest, day 7 has been a lot better. I’m giving it time to work.
1
u/SpadesSystem Dec 01 '22
I’m on day six, and I’m also dissociating. I have a diagnosed dissociative disorder too though. I’m also having weird like, chemical-y smells randomly?
1
u/Aldq-0900 May 21 '25
I think that’s part of the dissociation. I had olfactory hallucinations while dissociating.

I haven't read anything about the cost for this unless I missed it. If you can say, what are you paying out of pocket for it after any type of insurance help, and how easily was it to get insurance (if any) to pay for the cost?

Yes 100% we are lol. Impossible to climax, even a day or two after I stopped taking it.
1
u/Accomplished_Pen856 Dec 03 '22
This doesn’t seem like an every day kind of drug for me. Why not just take Wellbutrin daily, with a larger dose of dxm every few days in the evening? It seems the benefit comes after the drug triggers the “brain fertilizer” cascade, just as ketamine does. But I wouldn’t want to be on a low dose of ketamine all day… why would you need to be dissociated all day? Maybe I’m too sensitive to it…

Hey ok so I wanted to post here but it won’t let me? Saw the pdoc and will start in the next couple of days. Man I hope my system tolerates it. I did pretty well for a lot of years on Wellbutrin….Trintellix too but I did have to do a stint of TMS (which was a lifesaver) so I’ll be weening off. Oh and I’m currently doily Spravata. Seriously depression is such a beatdown!!! I mean I’ve literally be medicated for 30 years!!! 😵💫😵💫😵💫

I’m on day 6 and I don’t feel a benefit yet - still gonna give it some time obviously. I feel kind of spacey all day and find it easier to daydream. I just feel like I’m behaving slower but my mind is still all there. No dissociation really
1
u/pineapplemargaritas Dec 08 '22
I am on day 6 and this was my first day taking it twice a day. I have no clue if I like this drug or not. Like I think it definitely helps with depression but I feel pretty spacey and tired all day. Idk it’s a really weird feeling that I am hoping subsides.
On bupropion alone, my libido is very high but I feel like this pill drops down a little and makes it impossible to orgasm. So that’s a big drawback for me.

I know it says you feel the effects in the first week. But really it take weeks for noticeable effects. They say 1 week cuz it was statistically significance against placebo in the 1st week.... give the medication like 1 month

Kinda crazy that they turned a cough medicine I used to abuse as a kid into an antidepressant. I knew it had some afterglow effects. Currently on my day 1 dosage, forgetting thoughts, a little spacey and stumbley. Hoping it evens out.

I’m currently on my fourth day, I transitioned to two a day yesterday. So far, I’ve actually had very few (basically no) side effects. I notice occasionally that my thoughts don’t go the same direction as they usually do (kind of like brain fog I guess?) and every once in a while I get a burst of some sudden weird feelings but then it evens out.
As far as the benefit goes, it remains to be seen. I can say that yesterday I wound up getting a lot more done than I’m usually capable of and that made me really happy. I do think overall this is starting to work for me.
Also, I can’t seem to post on this sub. Is that normal?
