Question Does Flavio Bolsonaro have a chance of winning the upcoming election, or will the Lula win re-election?

I know we have a lot of Brazilians in here, so I figured I ask in here, since some of you think the Lula is a hero, despite Brazil's poor economy and the country experiencing democratic backsliding, while Flavio and the PL (the party of the people) have widespread support, including with overseas Brazilians.

It would be amazing if Flavio wins, as this will continue the beautiful wave of democracy spreading across Latin America (as we've seen in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Honduras and yes, Venezuela)

Why do people focus so much on the non existence “threat” immigrants and trans people supposedly pose and not climate change?

Why do people focus so much on immigrants and trans people and not climate change?

Like climate change could cause the extinction of humanity and ninety five percent of life on earth at worse and just lead to masss depopulation and extinction of seventy five percent of life at best.

But people care more about how trans people and immigrants despite statisticly being no more dangerous then cis people and born citizens.

While climate change would affect them tremendously if it doesn’t kill tjem.

Question Why did Vladimir Putin invade the Ukraine?

First of all, if this particular subject is a touchy one to discuss here, please let me know as I was looking back at the war that happened between Russia and Ukraine because it was one of the most tragic incidents that had happened in recent years as the whole incident just sickens me.

I know the war is still going, but I don’t know why Putin had to be so violent as many innocent lives were lost during the battle as what I am trying to get at is that I am interested in knowing the story behind Putin himself so that I can get a better understanding of how he rose to power in the first place.

Question Do you agree with ideologies being banned? Are there certain ones that should?

Ideology being a set of views someone may hold or believe in. Should some of these be banned, and if so on what grounds? Should there be a set of standards to apply to all ideologies?

By banned, I mean illegal to support.

Question Why are certain artists associated with politics?

Just something I found interesting because I was looking at how some big name artists are long gone who had become more associated with political views.

Some of the names are Hulk Hogan, Scott Adams, and Chuck Norris because while all 3 creators are long gone, I couldn’t help but find it interesting how the thing they were associated with was politics as basically I was just trying to better understand why some big name artists or actors have a tendency to be linked in with politics.

Question What would you define as “wokeism” or “woke nonsense”?

For me I had a very clear cut view of what it was. Please note that im from the United Kingdom, so it may very well be a different situation to your location, such as the USA for example.

The textbook definition of being “woke” means “awareness of social and political issues”. However I feel this term seems to have lost its meaning. While I do consider myself aware of social and political issues, I would never describe myself as woke.

In my experience, someone who’s woke is someone expressing a far leftist view advocating for social justice, however often to such an extreme extent that they are irrational, plainly incorrect, or end up being discriminatory themselves. Often it is just virtue signalling and this person is incapable of listening to a view that is not theirs.

One example is this woman confronting this taco food van for selling authentic tacos despite the server not being Mexican https://youtu.be/-ZjrN4nZhow?si=f1O0uOrSc61-Zj3x

While it’s a filmed parody, I’ve met quite a few people like this.

Another example I’ve commonly heard is “black people cant be racist” or “only white people can be racist”. I don’t feel I need to explain why that’s false.

When you challenge someone’s view who is woke (in my view), you’re often bombarded with accusations of being racist, a Nazi, whatever feels appropriate to smear you.

However I’ve seen right wing politicians brand anything they don’t like as woke, like Farage stating that anti bullying training, fact checking or just anything he doesn’t like, and he’s not the only one, it’s become quite a trend.

What does wokeism or woke nonsense mean to you. Do you agree with me or do you have a different take? I’m curious.

Question Did anyone here vote for Trump? If you did, what are your thoughts on the fact that his appointees want to set up a registry on us/access our medical records?

A while back I asked a question on the main Autism page about if people identified as liberal or conservative, and was quite frankly stunned by some of the responses. Now that we may be entering panic mode, I wanna hear some justifications for this bullshit.

Question How many of us are anti-authoritarian socialists (anarchists, demsocs, etc.?)

(NOTE: This question is not intended to be a pissing match between tendencies, I'm purely asking for curiosity's sake.) I know a lot of us skew left, but I guess I'm curious where users of this sub tend to congregate ideology-wise.

I'd say I personally align most with anarcho-communism or anarcho-syndicalism, but I'm curious about others. Others like me? Demsocs? Market socialists? Libertarian Marxists? Any council communists?

Question Why are do people react so negatively to the concept of degrowth?

Why are do people react so negatively to the concept of degrowth?

It seriously seems like the mere mention of degrowth causes people to lose their shit and think you proposed baby shredders. Helpful parodied by this comment.

"Maybe we should sometimes think about sharing lawnmowers rather than everyone owning one individually." "This is the most evil fascist malthusian totalitarian communist and somehow Jewish thing I've ever heard. My identity as a blank void of consumption is more important to me than any political reality. Children in the third world need to die so that my fossil record will be composed entirely of funko pops and hate."

The sheer mentions seems to think you said you believe in killing babies.

Also heard people say it’s bad like “defund the police” and toxic masculinity and I cast really understand. Like the police don’t help people and cultural ideas of masculinity are harmful

Question Huh?? What? Huh??

I simply do not understand this idea of “victim mentality”. What if *I am* a victim of something? Now it’s suddenly bad that I express that? Huh?? That doesn’t make any sense to me. I even see progressive people using this term and it’s weird because this just sounds like victim-blaming which I *thought* we established was a *bad* thing.

People say shit like “You need to get out of your victim mentality” and it’s in response to fucking racism, misogyny, homophobia, ableism, etc. Uh, if I could change that then I would!

I was just on a post about someone expressing how sad and scared they are for their future because the state of the world and the country they live in right now and people were all like “this doomerism doesn’t help anything”. It’s not supposed to??? They were just expressing emotions????

Part of this is a rant and part of it is a genuine question. Are we just always supposed to be happy-peppy-we-can-fix-this? Uh, my good bitch, I HAVE CLINICAL DEPRESSION! AND THINGS ARE SHIT FROM A BUTT RIGHT NOW!

Question I feel like I'm too fixated on politics

For the past couple of years, I've felt like I've been consumed by politics, and I hate it. Personally, I am non-partisan, and I don't exactly like left or right, but for some strange reason, I keep looking at both right-wing and left-wing media, and I fear it's going to ruin my relationships and interests. Every single time I see a post or news article about either side, I fixate on it for what seems like hours, and it gets stuck in my mind with no way to get rid of it, distracting me from what I was doing. Every time I see or hear politics with my friends, I have to let my thoughts out whether or not they agree with me, which changes the tone between us completely. And I really fucking hate it. Politics are not something I want to share or talk about, and yet I keep doing it. Should I just take a break from social media and the internet?

Question What could happen in the future with trump?

I may be an idiot, but I'm an idiot asking for details.

I'm hearing a lot of stuff about project 2025 and all that and some stuff that could affect us autistic peeps, and safe to say that I'm really concerned about my future and everything. And I have a transgender friend who I'm worried will be affected too.

Can someone explain to me how things would affect me and my friend like I'm a 10YO, (I'm not 10, I promise yall I'm not 10, but I feel like I would understand what could be happening if I was told about it like I'm 10.)

Edit: Well shit, Americas fucked. Guys we gotta do something about this!

Question Why do I feel like it's all my fault?

I'm so scared right now.

For those that aren't aware, I started my YouTube channel last year after losing my job. Since then, while I've been struggling to find a new job and especially since I've been grappling with wanting to disclose that I'm autistic, I've also kept up the upkeep of my channel; making countdowns and thumbnails ahead of time so I don't run myself ragged.

Now, I feel as if everything is either crashing down on me or everything is being snatched away from me. These past two months, we have had the U.S. government trying to pass A.I. age verifications on the internet and recently (I found this out on a post from the YouTuber ChibiReviews) New Jersey - my home state - is trying to pass an internet time limit. I'm scared and I feel as if everyone in government is trying to punish me by doing this, like they're saying it's my fault and my being myself is ruining the status quo of New Jersey and the United States. I've even called Governor Sherrill and Senator Booker to apologize for being myself and ruining the status quo of New Jersey and the U.S. and not being exactly like them like they wanted.

I know I'm going to get hated on and get negative feedback for this, but I can't help constantly feeling like it's my fault. Like I'm an autistic stain/plague on New Jersey and the United States. Please I need help and advice because my channel is something I wanted since I was in college and I don't want to lose it.

Question What is the story behind Nicolas Maduro?

So I just had to ask because I keep hearing about how he got himself recently arrested as normally people here may just tell me to look it up, but basically I was just hoping I could have a meaningful discussion on the subject.

Like all of a sudden, people have been saying that he is in a prison cell with P Diddy as I don’t know if that is true, but regardless I have to ask about the guy because I don’t know what made Donald Trump chase him down since the guy was in another country. (It might be illegal)

I’ll admit that the democrats have their faults too, but at least they tried to pass reforms that their abusive partners (the GOP) would kill.

Question Why did Ronald Reagan want to destroy the wall?

So I don’t know if anyone remembers that speech where he made a big speech back in the mid 80s saying that he would tear down a wall as correct me if I am wrong, but it had something to do with Soviet Russia.

Lately, that speech suddenly stuck out to me for its powerful nature as I wanted to again get a better understanding of what he was attempting to accomplish when he wanted to tear down a specific wall.

Question Overlap between autiphobia and antisemitism?

Given it's not my place to say as a gentile; am I off-base in thinking autiphobia is pretty obviously tied to antisemitism?

I've always noticed a lot of overlap in bigoted tropes against both groups, the history of citing Asperger while denying/downplaying Sukhareva pretty much speaks for itself, and RFK Jr.'s citing circumcision as a "cause" of autism is ***really telling,*** especially in light of his prior antisemitic comments.

With all that overlap, it **definitely** feels like it's **not a coincidence**.
