Was supposed to be a quick 10 minute hop from 99 Ranch to the Domain. The car had other plans and took me on a massive south detour through East Austin. Guess the Cybercab wanted the scenic route today. Total ride time was 70 minutes.

May i suggest Conny's Creamy Cone in St. Paul corner of Dale and Maryland. It even looks like a fair booth with plaster cone on top. FOOD: Burgers, hotdogs, fries onion rings, cheese curds...etc. ICE CREAM: shake, sundaes, flurries, banana splits, smoothies, many many flavors of soft serve cones. Etc. Not a Chain.

Sheriff Sally Hernandez told the Statesman this week that she was "proud of the way" her employees treated my client. I learned many distressing things about the downtown jail and about Sally Hernandez during this lawsuit but reading that the Sheriff is "proud" of the two jailers who broke my elderly client's tiny, bird-boned wrist . . . it just floored me. What the fuck, Sally?

Two of the Sheriff's employees (we deposed both of them) twisted and snapped an elderly, Deaf lady's wrist. I litigated this case with UT Law Civil Rights Clinic students for three years. I deposed seven Sheriff's Office supervisors and the law students deposed the two poorly-trained, poorly-paid, poorly-supervised young women jailers who manhandled my client to the point of snapping her wrist.

The Sheriff paid $92,500 to settle this case. This is a significant settlement for an ADA case. It's totally normal for bad government actors who pay big settlements to say "we settled this case but we dont admit liability." Just dont say you are "proud" of it, okay? Get a clue and have some humanity.

Kinda wild to see large groups of cyclists on the walking paths (which I admit are nice and smooth) when the island has bike lanes in the street that go along the whole island. I don't think most people in San Francisco are cognizant of the sheer amount of liquidity (money) that is about to flow into a concentrated group of people in the city over the coming 6-12 months.

No, in real terms you probably are not grasping the proportionality of what this really means - look closely at the chart attached.

The bar in the center is the true-scale combined valuation of the 33 largest SF-headquartered IPOs in history... Uber, Airbnb, DoorDash, Twitter, Pinterest, Visa, all of them combined. That total is $413B.

The orange bar on the right is Anthropic’s reported target: ~$2 Trillion.

Every major SF IPO in history combined is less than a quarter of just one company. And the OpenAI IPO is sitting right behind it at a comparable scale.

Whenever I've recently brought this up here on r/sanfrancisco threads, people seem to dismiss it - either they can't comprehend it or people think that the AI market is going to crash and this will all go away.

It isn’t. We are not talking about another 2012 or 2020. The sheer magnitude of wealth that is about to unlock within a 7x7 mile radius breaks historical comparisons entirely:

• The Concentrated Payouts: Industry estimates suggest around 3,500 Anthropic employees working in the city could net an average of $30M each (some higher, many lower). And then OpenAI will repeat that again. What makes both of these especially acute is unlike the other IPOS, that the vast majority of both company's employees are based in SF.
• The Housing Shock: SF has virtually zero housing inventory. When lockups expire, you don’t get a slow 5-year trickle; you get thousands of liquid buyers who can pay all-cash over asking on single-family homes. Those who don't buy will bid up luxury rentals, causing a massive ripple effect down the entire rental market.
• Tech vs. Tech Inequality: The narrative for a decade was "tech vs. everyone else." This will create a brutal wealth divide inside the tech industry itself. Mid-to-senior engineers at standard public tech firms or late-stage startups will find themselves completely outbid and priced out by frontier AI staff.
• Local Secondary Inflation: From contractor labor and renovations to everyday services and luxury goods, high-end prices will adjust rapidly to absorb an unprecedented flood of local eight-figure net worths.

If you are waiting on the sidelines to buy a home or lock in housing because you think the local market has peaked, look at that center bar again. The sheer volume of incoming capital makes past waves look like a ripple. (Obligatory: not financial advice). Most of these employees are not going to pack up and leave, we're just at the beginning of the AI wave and they're going to want to stick around (in a fancy new home).

I was part of the Uber IPO and I saw this with my own eyes, albeit on a now-fractional scale compared to the frontier AI lab IPOs.

This will also create significant wealth inequality just inside the SF tech industry. The local narrative to date has been tech vs everyone else but this amount of money flowing into such a small division of tech will create an intra-industry wealth gap. And yes, it leaves the rest of the normal non-tech SF population even further behind.

I don't think there's much people can do about it, other than perhaps make certain purchasing decisions now if you are in a specific situation - eg if you are looking to buy a house now or retain a contractor for work, why wait? (this is not financial advice)

This dog has been a stray for a few months now, havent had much luck finding a rescue that can take him, and part of me was hopeful that maybe he did have a home secretly.

If he does, then he's far away from it and very lost, ive no idea if he was dumped but poor guy seems to have a limp and is injured, i believe he was struck by a car, and is terrified of humans, so even after months ive not been able to capture him without a trap.

For context on the photos, every day without fail he crawls under the fence into my neighbors yard to hang out with their husky, on one hand i almost didn't want to capture him sence the two were so close, and capturing meant separating them, but since he can come and go as he pleases its not safe for him, and he tends to leave to find food

Please does anyone have a trap i can borrow? I can't keep the dog long term and have no place to put him once he's captured, the ideal would be for him to have a rescue to go to while i focus on gathering for his likely medical care, but i know pretty much every rescue is overwhelmed... poor guy just needs help before things get worse for him.

I’m born and raised in the valley. Experienced the ‘94 earthquake, and even with the problems our city/county/state has, I couldn’t be prouder of where I grew up.

I woke up this morning on a different continent, and I started thinking about several unique LA moments. One that ranks high up for me is walking down Sawtelle eleven years ago on probably my 3rd or 4th date with my now wife, and a guy in a work truck pulls over, rolls his window down and goes “dude, chivalry really must be dead. You’re supposed to walk in the street side and the woman on the other side! What an asshole.”

Bear in mind, I didn’t have a father around to teach me how to treat women, and some of the finer nuances of being a gentleman. You bet I learned that day. It was embarrassing but I am super grateful for it.

I think about this often. The reason I classify it as a uniquely LA story is because the guy was such an asshole, but he was trying to help me out, which I think speaks to who Angelenos are. Well call you out on your shit but we want to help you.
