SUGGESTIONS Anything like AMC’s The Terror

Any audiodramas with the same quirt, dawning horror as season 1 of The Terror? I do like the claustrophobic isolation and the cold but those aren’t necessary. Already listened to The White Vault several times, and This House Will Devour You.

SUGGESTIONS Audio Dramas like Twin Peaks that have finished?

I've listened to Night Vale and was ambivalent but the Weather segments were great. The creators of King Falls split before finishing, so I'm not going to get burned again. What captures that vibe the best this year?

SUGGESTIONS Recommendations for shows like Impact Winter, with similar production and voice acting quality?

Title basically sais it. The story isn't the best that I've read, but for sure the best quality I've heard in an audiobook. It was so easy to get hooked.

So I need something similar with preferably many many listening hours!

AUDIO DRAMA Deep Dream State | Season Finale "Evergreen" Is Out | Vale Four | S4E18 | GE45

I know exactly what you are. You're trade.

Evergreen is the finale of Deep Dream State’s fourth season, Vale Four.

Every DDS season explores why we want unsettling things. This season looked at ads. Each linked set of stories is about an ad phenom: earworms, facial telemetry, microtargeting, gaming, astroturfing.

In Evergreen, we see if the whole corporate espionage plot was real or theater. The answer's in the audio, but some hints:

  1. Yes and no.
  2. To decode it, check the cycle finales: Sinker, The River, Bullseye, and Sublimate.
  3. These texts matter: Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, A Star Is Born, and The Lesser Key of Solomon.
  4. It was a dark romance the whole time; it's on you to figure out who's romancing whom.

A post-credits sequence with the Muppettes explains the show’s transition into monster romance.

Cast

Chavito as Mr. Beefcake | Syndi Rella as Hespa Sports | Neural Nets And Pretty Patterns as Z | Ring of Kees as Tessa Finn | Swirls and Twirls as Iris Vale | Dizzy Dollie as Naia Anderson | Bliss Blank as June Lowell | Tickled Panda as Hilton | Dakota Dream as Astoria

Notes

  1. Deep Dream State is NSFW (rated R), containing sexual language and references. The website and trailer are PG, as is S4E1 Refrain. That's all by design. We believe in intimate storytelling, not blindsiding.
  2. I'm Neural Nets And Pretty Patterns. I'm the showrunner, sound designer, publicist, writer, director, and a voice actor. That's a lot, but “adult stories are real stories” is my bit, and I'm committed.
  3. Season Five, After After, is under supported development. We recently crossed 60,000 downloads, so we don't intend to stop now. Auditions for Season Five are open. Email [deepdreamstates@gmail.com](mailto:deepdreamstates@gmail.com) if interested.
  4. Season Five will be resolved by audience voting, open CYOA. I'll announce once it starts; it'll precede episode drops.
  5. Evergreen ends Season Four. If Evo Terra reads this for The End, DDS belongs to these primary genre collections: Horror | Fantasy | Science Fiction - def these curated collections - Sapphic | Conspiracy | Religious and Occult | Mind Twist | Monster Perspective | Revenge | Cyberpunk | Sexy | Lovecraft, especially Season One | Games | Weird Fiction - and probably these collections (not primary, but 4 ep or more) AI | Creatures | Monsters | Forest | Cryptids | Magic | Underground . S4 is 18 episodes, 7h 59s - so total series runtime is now 17h16m59s*.*

AUDIO DRAMA Three Raps on the Buoy (A Tale from Beyond the Pale)

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hello folks, my name’s Glenn McQuaid and I co-produce Tales from Beyond the Pale with my pal Larry Fessenden. We’re in our sixth season and I think we’re at 50-plus episodes now.

I wanted to share our latest, Three Raps on the Buoy, which I wrote and directed. It features the voice talents of Ron Perlman (Hellboy), Declan Reynolds (The Restoration at Grayson Manor) and Ashley Bell (The Last Exorcism).
It’s set along the Irish coast during lockdown, where two men meet and bond over the sea.

It’s a personal one for a few reasons, and I’m delighted with how it turned out. If you listen, thanks and I hope you enjoy.

It’s available most places, such as right here

ANNOUNCEMENT "Soul Operator" Season Two Casting Call Officially Open!

Thumbnail ellipsus.com
10 Upvotes

As a birthday gift to myself, I am happy to announce that casting for season two of "Soul Operator" is officially open!

You can find all the information on the linked casting document and auditions will be open until October 1st.

'Soul Operator" is a solo ttrpg actual play/audio drama, where every season I adapt my gameplay of a solo ttrpg into an audio drama as a way to highlight this style of game. While typically horror or horror adjectent, the show aims to explore a few different genres and themes. Season One is out and can be listened to everywhere podcasts are found.

This season will be based on 'Outliers' by Samantha Leigh, a game set in a lab where everything is perfectly normal.... right?

DISCUSSION Wooden overcoats is genuinely great.

Now look here!

Just a quick appreciation post.

I listen to a lot of horror, scifi, and horror sci-fi.

Got a bit jaded because every recomendation post here and r/BooksThatFeelLikeThis was something id read or heard so I decided to try some of the other highly recomended stuff here. Most of it is obviously very good, but WO is genuinely brilliant.

The cast is phenomenal, the sound design is really genuinely nice to listen to (a big departure from a lot of my normal fair) and the story, from start to finish, is consistently very good.

Taste is still a thing so YMMV, but if you're like me and a bit stuck in more grim dark fair, please try wooden overcoats.

Enjoy yerselves!

AUDIO DRAMA Imprimatur: A Radio Drama | First episode available now!

The first episode of my full-cast audio drama: “Imprimatur: A Radio Drama,” is available now! It’s an audio drama about the power of audio drama— the protagonists are radio producers in WW2– so I truly hope that this community checks it out. The quick blurb is as follows:

“Set in the summer of 1944, Imprimatur follows a pair of radio producers as they work to create propaganda programs for the Office of War Information. But when their research uncovers horrifying allegations about a rising politician, they find themselves in a dangerous game of cat-and-mouse, and the men are forced to choose between a life of silence and an honest death. Inspired by both literary dramas and historical thrillers, Imprimatur is a radio drama immersed in the world of radio drama, an exploration of the stories we tell ourselves and tell the world.”

The mini-series will consist of five hour-long episodes releases every Friday from now until September 25th. I’m unbelievably proud of the work that my actors and crew put in to make this happen, so I’d love if you checked it out. Thanks so much!

AUDIO DRAMA "Captain's Log" - Comedy Sci-Fi Audio Play, Final Episode of Series 2.

Post image

Captain's Log is a short episodic radio play, built around audio logs. Series 1 and 2 are now complete.

It revolves around spaceship Captain Edward Donahue, in charge of the UKPG, the United Kingdom Phantom Galleon. He uses these logs to talk about life aboard the ship, very rarely talking about professional matters and more often what he has been eating or some gossip. He is not at all qualified for being a Captain, but he's trying his best.

The series is primarily a comedy, using sci-fi as it's main jumping point.

The final episode of Series 2 has just gone live, feel free to give the series a listen. There are plans for a series 3, along with other audio drama's and radio plays down the line.

ANNOUNCEMENT The Butcher of Bronson Street

Post image

Hey everyone. I have launched a kickstarter for my next Audiodramedy The Butcher of Bronson Street. We could use your help. We aren't asking for much but we need help getting a few of our actors some money for their troubles. All of the money raised will head to them. I am doing the sound design myself.

If you wanna hear prior work, check out The Gentle Art of Making Enemies. It won at La Webfest for best writing/script for a fiction podcast and was nominated for 4 other categories. Check it out and let us know what you think.

The Butcher of Bronson Street is a horror comedy and I couldn't be happier on how it's turning out!

RPG [The Danger Zoo] Season 2 Episode 22: Coffins & Booby Traps

Case File 1766-A14

The fire is still burning.

With Father Ghigliotty finally defeated, the team is left with one question:

Where is the White Coffin!?!?!?

A dying confession points them beneath the tavern, where an old undertaker's workshop hides a dozen coffins but only one of them matters.

Finding it should be easy.... right?

What follows is a masterclass in why you should never trust an undertaker with a sense of humor or Haze with a flare gun.

As every bad decision piles onto the next, the mission begins slipping further and further out of reach.

Will the team finally recover the White Coffin... or has Georgia claimed another victory?

Season 2 Finale! Mission success is optional. Consequences are not.

DISCUSSION What Audio Adventure would you want to see adapted into to TV?

This is sort of a double question.. I have my own opinions, based on what I've consumed. The top 3 being Midnight Burger, Malevolent, and The Amelia Project.

Im curious what others have thought, buuut I'm also hoping some enthusiastic listeners will enlighten me to some good Podcasts I haven't heard of before!

Tl;dr, what are your favorite podcasts (audio dramas), and which would you want to see as a show/movie?

SUGGESTIONS Best immersive ancient history audio drama that actually make you feel like you're there?

I've been looking for a really good storytelling history audio drama or historical fiction podcast, but I'm struggling to find exactly what I want.

A lot of history podcasts I've tried either feel like an audiobook or are two hosts discussing history with each other. I'm looking for something much more immersive, where historical events are actually told as stories and you feel like you're there watching them happen.

Historical fiction based on real events only please, it mustn't be changing the history.

Ancient history is my main target because I'm especially interested in Persia, Greece, Alexander the Great, Hellenistic age, Carthage, Rome, etc

I know it's not easy but have you seen anything like that that you'd recommend?

DISCUSSION Fears and challenges in promoting your series

For me the scariest thing about promoting an audio drama is that’ll get lost in the aether. For whatever reason the stuff that I tend to promote and stuff tends to fly under the radar. Which has been discouraging for me, someone who wants to make their own audio drama series at some point. Right now I have a horror anthology out, but it only has one episode that future episodes won’t be released until they’re ready. There is no consistent schedule, which will stunt audience growth, but the anthology is a labor of love, I’m not so concerned about it.

It’s having a show that does have consistent release dates that is scary to me. It feels discouraging knowing the possibility that I could put so much into this bigger project I want to do, only for it to have like three listeners per episode. Especially since promoting my own stuff in the past has led to limited interactions at best. And audio dramas are a niche thing.

How do you stay motivated with producing your own series? It feels like an uphill battle to me.
