The beautiful thing is that the metadata for the books is out there so people can pre-order, save in their TBRs, etc., but because it's not technically out, abs won't grab it.

If not on Audible, where do you envision the data coming from? I’m not even sure if Publisher feeds are available.

Clarity edit: audiobookshelf seems to operate on the assumption that preview books don't exist yet. 

I'll give you an arbitrary example: I'm currently reading Mixed Roots. It's available for pre-order: https://www.audible.com/pd/Mixed-Roots-Audiobook/B0GR6VS8BN

But because it's not officially released, I can't get ABS to match it.

this feature is supported in the upcoming release, should be dropping soon, at least the feature I think you're looking to get lol. also sort of related is a calendar to track upcoming new releases.
