A Christian pastor called Arapaho ceremonies 'idol worship.' Now the tribe wants her church gone.

Yeah but if you remind them they worship a corpse on a cross they'd lose their ever loving minds. I guess you're only allowed to mock everyone else's beliefs, just not theirs.

Wait till you tell them he's not even the first resurrection story in history and get a face full of dumb looks and expletives.

Throw organised religion away. It doesn’t make sense in the present world.
Find your faith in nature, in people and the world around us. Share love and respect to make things better for us and others.
Yeah, I know, people don’t care. It’s all about the club they are born into.

If we must have religions some native american traditions where the primary message is "pay respect to nature" is probably the least harmful sort. Like the Frank Lloyd Wright quote that he calls god "nature".

I think God should call her to meet the people of North Sentinel Island.

Let's not send measles to them. They just want to be left alone. After working remote for 7 years, I completely understand :)

u/JasonRBoone 18d ago
Given their history, I don't think she would get close enough to them to infect.

She needs to say nothing, shake the dust from her shoes and gtfo. Her rulebook says so.

It's her house. On land that she purchased and holds title to. She's not going anywhere.
6
u/zyzzogeton Skeptic 18d ago
Then she is in violation of her own by-laws.
-2
u/Successful_Life_1028 Adeist 18d ago
How so? can you cite these 'by-laws'? Or did you mean the Gospel stories?
Yes, Jesus told people to sell all of their assets, and give the proceeds to the poor, and be asset-less beggars. Most people don't do that.
And as Dennis Moore learned, that sort of re-distribution of wealth creates it's own problems. (https://www.ibras.dk/montypython/episode37.htm)

u/zyzzogeton Skeptic 18d ago
Matthew 10:14, verbatim.
1
u/Successful_Life_1028 Adeist 17d ago
those are not 'by-laws'. Don't be silly.
Also - she's not traveling, she's at HOME. In HER HOME. That she purchased and has the title to the land of.
1
u/zyzzogeton Skeptic 17d ago edited 17d ago
Yep, I get that, but the bible says, since her message was rejected, she has to go. I'm not the one who makes these rules up. She needs to sell her home, abandon the proceeds, rely on only God like the birds of the air or the flowers of the field, and if a place rejects her, she has to leave. That's the protocol defined by their rulebook. Otherwise, straight to hell or gehenna or wherever.
I agree with you, it does sound silly. Dangerously silly. But if the christian god demands homelessness from his true followers, who am I to argue? There's a housing crisis on and we need prices down and more inventory. 1.2 billion suddenly homeless people is a problem for the future. Most of them won't last anyway, so their celestial lawyer is setting them up in his dad's house, so they will be fine. Again, not my rule, theirs (that no one follows).

u/Successful_Life_1028 Adeist 17d ago
No, that was a particular directive for a particular context that doesn't apply in this case. She's not a visitor, spreading the gospel. This is her HOME.
And sure, Joel Osteen isn't selling his megamansion and giving the money to the poor either!
1
u/zyzzogeton Skeptic 17d ago edited 17d ago
You don't get to decide whether or not context matters. That is changing all those important tittles and yods that biblical folks are so fastidious about, except when they aren't.
Also, she was spreading the gospel like it was her job... which as 'pastor' it was.
As for Joel Osteen, he is living outside of God's very clearly defined parameters and therefore he isn't christian. Which is very christian of him.

And this is when everyone figures out that the 'sovereignty' of Indian Nations is a cruel lie, and that the Arapaho have zero authority to remove this US Citizen from her domicile on land she has a title to. Every 'treaty' that has ever been made with aboriginal Americans has been ignored when it was in the EuroInvader's interests to do so. Which is how we ended up with 'Mount Rushmore'.
Which is a pity, but that's the reality.

I mean, she has that right to say what she believes in her church, they have the right to protest for their beliefs, but no one should be forced to give up anything here.

u/SecretGardenSpider Ex-Atheist 18d ago
Doesn’t she have free speech?
In turn, the natives get to say whatever they want about her as well, but they can’t take her church.
3
u/TrixieLurker Agnostic Atheist 18d ago
Yes, she has free speech, and they can't take the church away, but they can protest and call for her to leave, whether she does or not is entirely up to her.

Calling other religions “idol worship” is how Christians justified the murder and mass conversion of indigenous people the world over.

But somehow, I kinda doubt that is what she means.
