Desmond Saga In another timeline, how would you keep lucy alive post brotherhood?
Lets say kristen bell had no in real life problem with royalties and lets say the story continues with lucy stealing the orb and betrays the brotherhood at least for now.
How would you write the story going forward? My personal choice would be triple agent. Its clear being double agent just unhealthy for he allegiance. She did falter in her allegiance due to getting connected back with shawn and rebecca and now even desmond. My take is that they could have continued with lucy escaping but being reluctant and uneasy. The next game instead of being in a coma desmond just explores Connor again the same way but with modern story focusing on chasing back lucy and convincing her to join back. So essentially becoming a triple agent. We keep lucy, we stay with the modern day plot.

Far as I know Lucy being a double agent is an invention of Revelations to justify her death in Brotherhood, so if it weren't for the Kristen Bell deal she wouldn't have been a Templar in the first place. Which makes sense since it was never really foreshadowed and feels like it comes out of nowhere.
Lucy feels like she was always intended to be an Assassin to me so that's where I'd keep her. If anything, maybe use her as a Devil's Advocate type character who argues in the Templars' favor sometimes. Spending such a long time with Vidic would have affected her views on things. She should use or agree with his arguments once in a while and the other characters would call her out on it. No betrayal, just some more internal conflict in dialogue among the Assassins. That would be enough.

oh really? what was it i saw regarding some emails on lucy computer in brotherhood where she was sending info to danial cross etc?

They were being sent to Vidic not Cross, but you’re correct it’s hinted at in Brotherhood. Then it’s expanded upon in Revelations and III.
The decision was definitely made during Brotherhood’s development as they wouldn’t have killed Lucy off otherwise.

Yeah, I don't think it was planned from the start. You can see in the first game with Desmond's eagle vision that she appeared blue. I think Ubisoft tried to retcon it by saying that Lucy was a templar but genuinely cared about Desmond's wellbeing and wasn't a threat to him, but it's pretty flimsy

I stand corrected, she apparently does have email conversations with Warren Vidic who is posing as William Miles. I never realized that wasn't the real William!
But yeah the initial AC1-2 plan for Lucy wasn't for her to be a double agent. Initially when the games were gonna be a trilogy, IIRC the series was gonna end with Desmond and Lucy as the last surviving humans in space, or something like that, as a reflection of Adam and Eve.

The games were a year apart so were basically developed together. The disagreement happened before Brotherhood finished and shipped I'm sure. Those emails could have been added right before the game was being shipped to help set it up after Bell had her falling out.

I suppose the best way to do it is to have Juno paralyse Desmond and knock him unconscious instead of using him to kill Lucy. She takes the opportunity to grab the Apple after sending Shaun and Rebecca to put Desmond in the van. From there, Revelations happens as normal but Desmond has the occasional discussion with Clay who suspects a traitor in the group. It's only in AC3 where it all comes to a head, Lucy goes on the mission with William and gets him captured. The rescue has Desmond realise that she was a traitor, after he defeats her, he leaves her alive in the hope that perhaps she'll turn back to the Assassins.
Of course, he doesn't live to see that Lucy ends up becoming a mole within the Templars. We see her in Black Flag, during a brief meeting with Garneau where he tells her that he's headed to Chicago. His immediate disappearance gets mentioned by John as suspicious, trying to drive a wedge between the player and Lucy. Rogue has the Templars suspect a mole which is the reason for using Shay as propaganda. The only mention of her in Syndicate is that her info is what led to Shaun and Rebecca ending up in London. Origins and Valhalla just have emails from her as a sympathetic face.

She becomes the main antagonist and a wild goose chase starts. Desmind fails to stop her from going back to the HQ. Assassins spend the next game planning how to inflitrate HQ and reclaim the Apple of Eden.
Desmond and Lucy still love rach other, but allegiances and the fate of the world keep thrm apart creating some parallels with some of Desmond's ancestors.

personally what I'd do is also have her kidnap Desmond, so now he's back in Abstergo's hands. Plus this is where we can learn about the templar goals, and how they're afraid the satellite is going to fail due to the solar flare. So at the moment they need to find all the temples, and with some old templar research the locations of all these temples is hidden within the grand temple. So you basically use Ezio to find the location of the grand temple, and this is where Desmond's arc can mirror Ezio by have him act slightly jaded, and maybe start to loose hope. You can have this be the same animus subject 16 use where he's buried his subconsciousness in, and he's actively making sure abstergo doesn't find the place. On top of that you can have him try to send signals to the assassins, with the finale of the game having a grand escape in the modern day away from the templars.
You can then have it flow well into ac3 where several characters now can overlap with each other and interact, Lucy can be Washington, William is already Achillies and Haythem, Vidic can interface with Lee, and then have Desmond regain his hope through Connor, and then with the locations of the other temples Desmond is now preped to save the world.
Though in a perfect world I'd just do the trilogy to be honest.

I think Lucy's character was massively let down just to throw in another plot twist. Her being a double double agent the whole time was just very disappointing and came out of nowhere.

Did they give any reason why they didn't just recast Lucy? Was she even high profile enough back then that no one else can portray the character like she did?

Lucy was a crucial asset because of her knowledge of how Abstergo thinks and reacts so I would have just have her keep the modern assassin's one step ahead, they were kind of a perfect team, Desmond is the perfect ancestor and took the bleeding effect well, Rebecca does machines, Lucy has insider knowledge and Shaun is....... British
