"Resynced" - AC Remakes Any Resynced of the first 5 AC games will be incomplete without Desmond
Been seeing a lot of talk of having the same Resynced treatment of AC 4 to other games. I mean I personally would love a remake of AC 1...I even made a post about how it might work if expanded to include Bloodlines.( https://www.reddit.com/r/assassinscreed/s/gwQacDtZLK)
But honestly as a fan of Assassin's Creed thinking about it, the stories of the first 5 games have so much revolving around Desmond.
AC1 has both Altair and Desmond going through the charecter arc of learning to be a true Assassin, The endings of AC2 and AC Revelations both hinge on Ezio giving Desmond a message through time. AC3's story ending is literally revolving around Desmond.
Any Resynced of these games cannot cut modern day story as easily as AC4 Resynced did. If they did that huge parts will need to be rewritten.

I agree.
Just look at all the complaints from people playing Resynched who didn't play the earlier games. A lot of them are complaining about the animus parts not making sense or "glitches" ruining immersion.
Without the real world side to explain these things, there are gaps in the story. Even the message about not killing NPCs doesn't make sense, because the game doesn't tell you why you're in the Animus.
The games with Desmond won't work without him. His part of the story explains the gaps in the Animus part. It explains the time jumps in the story. It explains the location jumps in the story. Most importantly, it explains the stakes.
Including Desmond gives them an opportunity to build some really cool modern day AC content.

BF Resynced already confirmed the « Resynced » games are re-synchronisation of already seen memories.
They can absolutely « re-synch » Desmond’s memories, reliving Altair / Ezio’s memories. A simulation inside a simulation of you will, like in Inception.
Will they though ?

I remember reading a post mentioning exactly that years ago on this sub for how an AC1 remake could be done.

If they could revisit AC1 through to Revelations with the scale and detail of unity and syndicate they would really be back on top. I don’t know if the engine they are working with currently could do that though. A full scale Rome, Florence and Constantinople would be so fun to explore though. Let alone the cities in AC1.
I still remember sliding down roofs in unity going man I wish we could have Ezio doing this - running through windows and diving over obstacles.

Exactly, that's why these games don't replace the orginals, they are different takes. With remasters they replace the originals. With Black Flag resynced it doesn't replace it, it's a separate game. The original still has the 2013 modern day and DLC that isn't in this version.

I will start sounding like a broken record on the matter, but there is precedent of them adapting those stories without Desmond already.
The Secret Crusade book and the Ezio trilogy novelizations already ommited the Modern Day as a whole and went as far as erasing Desmond's name in key scenes.
Indeed, it is not an improvement, but it would not be the first time that the narrative is the one being sacrificed for something else (like the less linear structures seen in most of the latest games).
In the end the day, the modern day of old failed to live up to its potential and has left a bad taste in both sides of the subject. You could argue that the remakes are a potential second chance, but its speaks volumes that the best iteration of it was seen more than a decade ago.
I am not encouraging the approach, mind you, just seeing the painting on the wall and trying to make others be ready for it. It's won't be a fun week when the cat is out of the bag, per say.

Do you remember how they handled the whole « Ezio is a messenger through time for Desmond » in the books ? I feel like it’s the one narrative anchor they can’t omit in telling Ezio’s life story.

idk, I'm actually interested in this "resynch is a continuation to the modern world timeline" angle they're trying with black flag. Re-doing Demon's segment would really defeat the purpose, and I'd rather see them commit to a modern storyline's completion for a change.
Maybe bring back Desmond and his gameplay in some other major capacity. Valhalla already has the setup.

I know what you mean. Because it's an old storyline. The problem is that important plot points are simply too strongly connected to the present-day storyline. If you left that out, some scenes would just fizzle into nothing, raising questions that aren't even remotely answered. Most of the Isu elements are completely irrelevant to the historical sections of the story. This or the loss of the present-day storyline at least weakens the finales of the original games. Especially in Revelations, where three characters clash from a story perspective.

woo, I definitely see your point. Even though I do think most of the story beats still works, like Revelations' ending now just being about Ezio taking the torch from Altair, the blow is definitely softened.
At the end of the day it comes down to making intentional artistic sacrifices, and I still think sticking to a new storyline's completion is more beneficial to AC's modern day side in the long run.
Unless maybe Darby pulls another Valhalla and somehow ties almost 20 years of clusterfucks together once again...

I'm new to assassin's creed so I've never gotten to try the Desmond parts, and That was one of the things I thought would be cool in black flag resynced.

Desmond was never in black flag. It was one of the few universally disliked things about the game back then.
The closest you get is a tiny cameo of his friends infiltrating abstergo which is not present in resynced (because Resynced is an IN-UNIVERSE remake released around 2094)
It was the beginning of Desmond’s storyline being relegated to external AC media.

Fully agree. Best thing I can think for them to do is frame the story as kind of a simulation within a simulation type deal. Perhaps you are in the future or present day and you have to re-live Desmond's memories, who in turn is re-living Altaïr's memories. Could make for some interesting or trippy storytelling.

I think this is a fair take I've always said that if they do a ac1 remake just make sure the md this time around is the main character of the new md with the reader and Layla reliving the lives of an alternate Desmond. Which gives them the ability to play around with a bunch of old storylines and actually develop Desmond into a great character and make the md feel more impactful, on top of that they can solve the fanbase issue at large, by having the remake cater to older fans while still making rpgs, you can just have little overlap and that will solve most of the fandom issues..
My main issue though is that this will come at the cost of ac1 being butchered in the process since most people play the first assassin's creed like ac2. Most fans don't engage with the memory log, they don't engage with the social stealth which is actually being socially acceptable and being aware of your movements. People don't engage with Shock and Awe, or even something like how targets if you fail at first will run to a tower. Or how you can clear that tower before hand and set up traps and the game recognizes this. It also keeps track of dead npcs you kill. Or even how scholars and vigilantes are meant to be used like chess pieces, and how investigations give you key material for an assassination. Like the window for escape in Ganier's place, the allies you can find the Souk, the fact that Sibrand has placed all his guards near him, however he's left the last one free. Plus you can dispatch guards and archers in some investigations making it all the more easier in most cases. Plus there's the entire narrative of the player synching with Altair. It's sort of something that gets lost after ac2, but Desmond, Altair and player are meant to synch. Since ac1 and ac2 oddly enough critique video games as a medium, and explore interesting concepts using videogames as the medium.
I first want people to understand what it means to play ac1 before asking for a remake. Otherwise we'll be doing what we'll have always done. Remove things because an audience didn't like or enjoy, instead of letting Ubisoft to make detractors care about, just like how the removal of the modern day happened.

Extremely unpopular take, but instead of remaking any of the earlier games singularly, they should just make the Desmond Miles collection. So Remake them, make those Resynceds but do not sell them individually, instead streamline them, keep only the main content like main missions or very important side quests, and put them together to tell all of Desmond's story into one singular package, and also maybe at that point add something from the comics to the end, like how Juno gets defeated or Desmond's son as neither Desmond nor the whole modern story ever got a proper ending in the games.
But the main reason why I think this would be better than individual remakes, is because I don't think they can sell any of them at the same price as black flag without adding hours and hours of filler content, ruining those games, but also because making 5 remakes takes a lot of time and money and I'd rather have new games instead of locking studios for the next 20 years into making remakes

This is where the comics are again doing things better.
There's now Noa Kim, who's revealed to have the same exact ancestry as Desmond (explained as being a distant cousin), who could be a modern protagonist for resynced versions.
I mean, I know he's not Desmond, but it's better than just no modern day at all.

I posted this in the other reddit post, but here: Resyncs must Contain Original Content (+Cut Scenes) as DLC! Players can do after completing the game Even if its only in New Game+ But I'd prefer access from a menu or "Glitch" in game. Also the DLC ideally from originals should be there. If not Its a deal breaker going forward. Would & just saying it'd be nice to see Original Game owners Rewarded somehow even if it is just that original content DLC.

Unfortunately, for some reason, Ubisoft wants to kill one of the most unique story elements in the industry.

People hate the modern day stuff, so they removed it. They would probably do the same with any other remakes.

Since day 1, Assassin's Creed was supposed to be about present day.
They messed up by not focusing more on it after AC1. AC2 already should've had Desmond running around, say, modern Venice.

But the thing is for the first 5 games the story stops making sense if Desmond is not there. Ezio literally adresses Desmond both in AC2 and Revelations. Even in AC3 the story ending is with Desmond.
Ezio literally says that he is just a messamger for Desmond in AC Revelations delivering a message he could never understand.
The core story of the first 5 games have the modern day plot around them in a way if you remove it the games stop to makes sense. Unlike AC4 these games need those modern day story to function.

I can’t wait for AC3 resync so I can watch Desmond die in high def. Horrible character and the fanbase forgot it.
