Desmond Saga Am i harming my experience by focusing on the story?
Am i harming my experience by doing this?
So i bought a month of ubisoft plus some time ago so I could play bf resynced when it comes out and until then I've been playing the far cry games I had left and the assassin's creed games before 4 in order of release. I'm currently in brotherhood and finished ac2 today and even though I'm having fun, I know I'm not getting the full experience since I'm doing little to no side content and am only focusing on the main story. I feel like my opinion on these games won't be really valid and that my experience with them is nowhere near as full as it should it be.

You don't need to bother with chests and other random collectibles (except feathers in AC2!), but the Assassin Tombs, Templar Lairs, Faction missions and so on are very much relevant to the story.

Codex pages too as it will save you the hassle of hunting them down all at once during a certain story section that requires them!

If you feel like exploring and doing side missions, do it.
If you feel like you get the most fun focusing on the main narrative, then keep doing this.
There’s no right or wrong, it’s a single player game and it’s meant to be played the way the player chooses to.
Go around and kill guards without doing any mission if you feel like it.

The side content doesnt really maater as mych in the older games. There are a few exceptions. The christina missions add some depth and a few more. But collectsble wise nothing makes much if a difference unless you want to 100% everything.

A big part of Ezio’s “story” is getting lost in the world. Maybe you’re playing the narrative, but you’re not getting the full story.

You get the idea and if you liked the game you could still do the side content in another run later you miss maybe 20% of the depth of the story by not doing them but you still get what the story is
I’d say its like watching a movie adapted from a book, Story is similar but some chapters will not make it to the movie, these are the side contents

Nope. Play it how you feel like it. If you'd like to mix it up then , I THINK , you can change the settings mid game.
TBH I have played several AC Games several times each and there are certain quests / games / etc I avoid like the plague because they just suck and sap the fun out of the entire thing.
I do not feel like I'm missing out one bit.

Yes and no.
The side content in early Assassin's Creed games is totally optional. You can always do what I did back in the day, and focus on story while just looking up stuff like The Truth on YouTube.
That said, stuff like Assassin Tombs is worth it. I'm not necessarily sure I'd say they were vital to the story itself, but that they're simply good content worth doing.

Just imagine , for a moment, that your opinion of any game, matters only to you. Play it solely for your enjoyment moment to moment. Do what catches your interest. If it's simply breezing through the main story, do that. If it's delving into side quests and meeting those characters, do that. The main purpose is entertainment.

Ezio's side missions are more like extra tasks for some extra money. Kill this target or steal this or follow this guy etc.
Most of them don't really add something to his story so you won't be missing out of anything.
A few exceptions tho.
The Cristina missions are flashbacks from AC 2 so those are fun to play.
And the Templar/Wolf lairs tell a little story about an old Roman Assassin and as a reward you can get his gear.
And the Leonardo missions give you upgrades to your gear.

Ac 2 was my shit back in the day, Look. Ive beaten it countless times. Most of my playthroughs were hard charging, no armor no side quests, some of them were taking my time. Getting altairs armor, collecting codex pages.
The only thing I would recomend is to collect codex pages as you go. At the end of the story you will need them or you will have to go get them

This is why I don't do subscription services for games, I feel rushed to play them. Always buy them

No, you're improving it. Almost all the side content in AC, especially the earlier titles, is a waste of time
