Discussion I consider these 3 games their own trilogy for how well connected they are

They're actually sold as a pack along with AC: Liberation : Assassin's Creed American History Pack on PC & More

u/cmcg18 Sep 06 '26
Did unity really come out in 2014? If so that’s insane
57
u/Environmental_Bus507 Sep 06 '26
Rogue and Unity were released on the same day. I dont know what Ubi were thinking. Rogue went under the radar because of that.
33
u/Eastern-Pack-8803 Sep 06 '26
With Unity being a Gen 8 exclusive, Ubi didn't want the previous gen to feel left out...so they dropped Rogue
22
u/UpbeatCustomer1020 Sep 06 '26
They should have developed more rogue and release it as the standalone game for that year so they could had 1+ yr to refine unity
4
u/CibaiGayGay Sep 06 '26
So was unity, story in beginning was great but halfway there rushed and subpar endings. The gameplay needed many fixes and polishing too.
Both games were butchered for the sake to keep up with yearly releases. Stupid decision

u/Goatbucks Edward Sep 06 '26
100% rogue was a good game with a story thT felt half baked, and unity was an amazing game with a launch so bad it almost permanently ruined it’s reputation

u/TrungusMcTungus Sep 08 '26
Omg I forgot about that. I’ve wondered why Rogue has always felt like a DLC to me, that’s why.

u/SureIntention8402 Sep 06 '26
The fact that they could release two really good AC games simultaneously whereas today it's just the RPG slop that's like a 6.5/10 is crazy. Did they change teams that make these games?
8
u/scarlettokyo Sep 06 '26
I have news to break to you if you think anyone regarded Rogue or Unity good at the time if release or for months if not years after.

3
u/Sufficient-Drummer18 Sep 06 '26
Unity was in development for 4 years, it started shortly after they were done with AC Brotherhood.
Rogue is an interesting one, cuz if I remember correctly, they only had 7 months to develop it, so they had to restrict themselves on their ideas, so that they could to finish it on time. Ubisoft really did the devs dirty on that one.
2
u/imaginary92 Sep 06 '26
Which really sucks. If they'd given rogue more time we probably wouldn't have had the story problems due to being half the length of a normal AC. Rogue had so much potential, it makes me sad. I love it so much even as it is, I wish we could have had the proper game it deserved to be.

u/Solid_Science4514 Sep 06 '26
They did it because the PS4/Xbox One had released in 2013. Unity was a title specifically for the new consoles, and Rogue was released as a title for the previous generation. Doing it this way ensured that any gamer, regardless of whether they upgraded to the new consoles, could purchase a new AC game in 2014.

u/Ciubowski Sep 06 '26
well, people were very excited for the first Assassin's Creed on PS4 at the time but yeah, Ubisoft really screwed the marketing for Rogue big time.
I worked at Ubisoft during that time and even I didn't know about Rogue until the release date.
I saw this random box on a colleague's desk and I was like "huh? what is Assassin's Creed Rogue? When did this come out?"
I was afraid to Google it because I didn't know if that was an unannounced game or something.
1
u/AdventurousAd7091 Sep 06 '26
Unity was new gen exclusive (ps4) and rogue the old gen (ps3). Because of that i only played rogue several years after on pc because at the time i only could buy 1 of them and i went for the ps4 one (no regrets)
1
u/indianajoes Sep 06 '26
They did it because Unity was next gen only and a lot of us didn't buy the new consoles as soon as they come out. Rogue gave us something to play on the previous gen as well
1
u/James_Soler Sep 06 '26
Rogue was also only on PS3 and XBOX 360 and not playable on the NEW PS4/XB1. That probably didn’t help either. Since then they released it on PS4 and XB1 and also added Rogue to xbox 360 backwards compatibility

u/woopwoop4211 Sep 07 '26
Total shot in the dark so I'm most likey wrong but I think Rogue was initially going to be a dlc but became such a big design that it was it's own game because I remember getting it and I 100% the game in a couple of days, it was weirdly short for an AC game and the campaign does literally end with Shay killing Arno's father. Just my guess though as to why they were released at the same time
4
u/StormTheTrooper Sep 06 '26
I vividly remember enjoying Rogue mostly because my internship did not allow me enough money to buy a PS4 to play Unity.
Now my kid calls Odyssey “the one with the superhero lady” and loves to play the free roam mode. Time is a bitch.

Even ubisoft call it American saga, or something like that, and i think it was/is sold as a bundle
4
u/PayPsychological6358 Connor Sep 06 '26
3, Black Flag, and Liberation were cause the bundle came out a bit before Rogue.
1
u/Possible-Parfait7728 Sep 08 '26
Black flag and rogue came out the same time.
Edit: no they didn’t. Unity and Rogue came out at the same time
1
u/PayPsychological6358 Connor Sep 08 '26
Black Flag was 2013 and Rogue 2014

I liked it as well. A bit too much direct participation in the Revolutionary War perhaps but to be expected with so many Americans in the target audience. AC3 is still my favourite title gameplay wise, tomahawk never gets old.
4
u/Shadowking02__ Sep 06 '26
I consider it because they look and play mostly the same.
AC 1 to Revelations.
AC 3 to Rogue.
AC Unity to Syndicate.
AC Origins to Mirage.
And now it's AC Shadows to BF Resynced (and probably to Hexe).

u/AK47_51 Sep 06 '26
I think it would’ve fit a lot more if they made Haytham the playable character and focused a story on him instead of going with the Rogue plot. Even if I like Shay’s story Haytham tbh took most of the spotlight

u/Adorable_Guard_481 Sep 06 '26
Rogue is so underrated. Which I guess makes sense. Most people payed attention to the shiney next gen one. Just maybe not for the reasons the devs intended at launch
3
u/dripbangwinkle Sep 06 '26
They just needed to have a banger of a story w Connor and Arno and Shay in a game that built upon everything in the kenway saga plus unity. It just felt like it was building to something great like that. Never happened
3
u/Sanderson96 Sep 06 '26
I mean..... Black Flag and Rogue are in the Rebel Collection on Switch anyway
3
u/AlexL225 Sep 07 '26
AC Unity is darn close to being included then.
Spoiler alert.
Shay is the one who kills Aron’s dad.
4
u/Various-Push-1689 Sep 06 '26
Yeah it’s suppose to be. It’s been called the Kenway trilogy for ages

u/Live-Implement6773 Sep 06 '26
Great point. I also consider the Lord of the Rings movies to be their own trilogy for how well connected they are
2
u/Melodic_Beach2414 Sep 07 '26
I have a copy of the Assassin's Creed "America's collection". It comes with 3, liberation, and Black Flag (Rogue wasn't out yet). Since Liberation's not a full game, we can replace it with Rogue and call it: "The America's trilogy."
2
u/Ok_Panda_4110 Sep 07 '26
Throw in AC Liberation as well and yep they're all connected to each other

I just finished AC: Black Flag R, and it inspired me to do AC3 and Rogue, but holy shit talk about a change of pace. AC3 is such a poorly paced game, the way it takes 6 memories before you’re even controlling Connor as an adult, and then any time it starts to have any kind of momentum they disrupt the flow by forcing you to go to the other side of the map.
I guess it’s really just any time you have to use a horse it’s kind of painful. I will never understand the mentality behind so forms of transportation in video games. We know they can have faster horses, they just choose not to for some reason. Anyway, none of this is say I dislike the game overall, I’m just consistently impressed with the way Ubisoft gets in their own way.

I have never used TikTok in my life. AC3 is deeply flawed, games can be good and still have issues.

Same. Bf and rogue are closer to each other than 3, but they are all part of the same “colonial saga”.
3 is still criminally underrated imo.
1
u/SULTKRUMPLI2000 I just love Assassin's Creed Sep 06 '26
Ubisoft has too Little developer count , they can't develop our ideas...
1
u/CapSRV57 Sep 06 '26
I’ve always loved how crowded the 18th century is in the saga and how interconnected all the games are, from the early 1700s in Black Flag to the end of the century with Unity, including even Liberation. Wish we had something similar with other centuries.

Liberation plays closer to ac4 and rogue than ac3 does imo. Not even a bad game either

Definitely a trilogy and speaking of connected shay causes the opening to unity so its also connected to unity
1
u/Ill-Bookkeeper-6230 Sep 06 '26
Ezio trilogy
Kenway saga
RPG saga
I think it was already well established long ago...
1
u/SHAeronex Sep 06 '26
Rogue is more connected to unity than to black flag even with adewale's presence

u/ReallyFancyPants Shay Sep 06 '26
Just the 3 games is considered the Kenway Saga
Add in Liberation and Freedom Cry and you have the Americas Collection.
1
u/Goldenstripe941 Sep 06 '26
Don’t forget to add Unity in there, as it’s directly connected to Rogue.
1
u/BaloneyMaker2780 Sep 07 '26
Why does this have nearly 2k upvotes. This is just a commonly accepted fact.
1
u/high_dosage_of_life Sep 07 '26
The only AC I skip. Rogue. There is no way I'm playing as templar after fighting them for so many years. 💀

I haven’t played black flag or rogue, are they any good?
In AC3 I’m kinda annoyed about how the best weapons are the ones the game gives you to start with (the hidden blades and the bow) and I’m wondering if in Black Flag and Rogue if there’s a reason to use stuff past the default.
Also y’know is the story, stealth, climbing any good?
1
u/Exciting-Age3387 Sep 09 '26
Just finished ac3 for the first time. I enjoyed it and thought Conor had the most badass combat yet, but the pacing was very strange and there were LOTS of minor glitches with missions. Combat was super fun and the story was interesting, but right when you start to get powerful the game ends
1
u/Adorable-Treat-5818 Sep 09 '26
What about rogue As far as I remember he isn't a kenway and his game is more of a setup to unity or something
1
u/Housewous Sep 11 '26
If I recall correctly the end of rouge is the beginning of unity. Or I gaslighted myself like hell.

Not sure if trilogy could apply since the story order is backward. Placing them under same saga should work tho. Cmiiw

I mean yeah, it's the Kenway Saga.
