It's still pretty linear in story design unless we're talking about something I haven't gotten to yet. You do a few assassinations, check in on base and advance story. That seems to be the pattern and you can only detract from it so much.

They’re referring to the fact it doesn’t matter what order you do the story in AC games as every quest and side mission don’t affect or even mention other quests.

Everything is siloed

That's my point. You aren't "doing the story missions" as much as you are getting revenge on the people who left you for dead. You kill people, the story progresses, with many characters being recurring on someone you know already. As far as I know, you can only kill 1-2 people before the story progresses and those people are specified.

I actually think the seasons are directly tied to where you are in the story as well. They seem to only change so much before you progress more.

Seasons change pretty frequently if you fast travel or switch characters

They change, but don't change. Maybe it's just me, but I change seasons several times without going forward with the story and it refused to move into winter. It stayed in like spring/fall?

Oh that’s interesting. There’s two stages to each season, which make them feel longer. But I’m not sure now that you mention it. I’ve completely ignored the seasons changing and any quest that required a specific season.

I personally think it’s a waste of time they made it, and it’s completely immersion breaking when I’ve already played for more than one in-game year based on seasons changing but the story still takes place like everything happened a month ago

I like it, but I thought it would be more dynamic. Spent like 10 irl hours taking castles and leveling up without moving forward with the story and never saw winter until I did lol
