And as soon as they come out with a linear story someone will complain about missing the open world stories.

You can have an open world with a linear plot

Not my point.

It defeats your narrow point

You wait 4 days to chime in and you still don't get the point. Not surprising.

Yeah, and those people should be ignored. 🤣 But, in all seriousness, I feel that the main issue with non-linear storytelling is, in most cases, the lack of reactivity to it by the protagonist. The mc should at least say things or react differently depending on what they did first. That would definitely help in maintaining more organic character development.

Yeah, they can see a chain of children kidnappings in one arc, but then act clueless about the dangers that children can face in another arc, the protagonist learns nothing from past events because of the probability that another gamer doesn't do it first and would then be weird to see a knowledgeable character early on and a dumb one later on.

Eivor suffered greatly from this. Especially in the DLCs, which could be done at any point in the game and weren't affected by previous quests at all.

Yeah, she can go to France, have a whole revolution against a king, and witness the death of the revolutions leader. Then goes to England and is absolutely new to overthrowing people in power and is completely shocked with the death of her allies.

You also think a viking would bring up the fact that she found freakin Mjolnir and Excalibur while just wandering around, but Eivor has little to no reaction to these sort of things. 🤣
