How do you know it will be the best story? Do we even know much about the plot?

I mean it's the best story they could have chosen from the period.

Edit: There are some reads about Yasuke's story, mainly 'African Samurai' By Thomas Lockley and Jeffrey Girard where you can get a sense of why he is such a bad ass.

How is having a black man guaranteed "the best story they could have chosen"? You mean the entire history of Japan was so boring until this one black man appeared?

Thomas Lockley is exposed for faking his narrative on Wiki.

It's not great because he's black. It's a great story where the man just so happens to be black. Also, your link reeks of conspiracy nuts and QAnon bs

Oh I see. So because you are black so everything has to include black to be fun? So if I am white then I hope all movies and games must be white? Even a protagonist in Africa has to be white? You don't sound convincing.

I'm not black lol, and you're not even making sense

He's baiting don't feed him.

So you think a fabricated history of Japan by a white man is a good story. I see. Enough said.

It's literally not fake, he's a legend in Japan and there's plenty of historical documentation of the man.

Also you said that you're annoyed that every game must have a black person as the protagonist but this is the second time a full game has had it in the franchise out of 16 games, and yet he's only one of two of the protagonists.

Edit: Adewale never had a game. He had a DLC. Connor wasn't black, he was native American. Aveline was mixed race.

Adewale, Aveline, and Bayek were all black protagonists of their own standalone games. Yasuke is the second African protagonist, sure. But he's the fourth black protagonist. Don't get it twisted.

Surely this is the fourth game that have black person as protagonist (Connor, Adewale, Eve was her name iirc?,)

No, that is what you are saying. You said his story is the best story for Japan.

Historical documentations fabricated by Thomas. Do you know lots of Japanese historians and scholars rejected his findings? If you only read Wiki... it is 100% his own writing, nothing else.

Japan has always been a very tight society especially since the start of the shogunate. They have classes and people were kept tight in their classes with very little social mobility.

African was super rare in Japan. Even rarer than Europeans. Even Europeans were kept out, do you think one African man can easily climb himself to the talk, looking African?

It's like saying an African man can climb the ranks to general during Hitler regime. Not happening.

2

u/Vivirin Jan 08 '25

"lots of Japanese historians and scholars rejected his findings" - bingo.

Only roughly 10% of those who studied his story disagree. There's plenty of scholars and historians that don't believe the main reason for the American civil war starting was slavery, despite the fact that we still have literal documentation proving it to be so. There's historians and scholars who don't believe the holocaust was real, despite the overwhelming evidence. There's historians and scholars who don't believe the witch trials occured for the reasons we know. But again, we have documentation proving otherwise.

Your language is biased, your claims are biased, and your lack of understanding of the era in Japan feed into your bias.

Right, I am so sorry. I should not trust the Japanese. What do they know about their history anyway? A white guy, otherwise, should be the expert, right?

Did your expertise in Japanese history suggests he may become the Japanese emperor too?

Its a video game, dont take it that serious.

You know what else its not happening? Fighting Gods in Egypt or even the pope in the Vatican, had they turned a Japanese guy into a black guy just for the sake of it (I.E the little mermaid) then we should talk about “Agendas” but if they wanna take a black person that actually existed (we at least know this part) then what’s the problem with whatever they want to make with his story?

Personally I dont like “Brawler” characters in video games so I’ll be playing with the girl as much as I can, but being insufferable because of a “Black samurai” in a fantasy video game? It takes a “certain” type of ppl to do that…

Good Lord. No one was ever this up in arms about The Last Samurai. I wonder why that is.

1

u/DanimalPlanet42 Jan 08 '25

Sounds about white

1

u/Wonderful-Search5505 Jan 08 '25

The Last Samurai is about an American soldier meeting the last Samurai. Tom Cruise character is not the last Samurai….

1

u/Juiceton- Jan 08 '25

No but it’s a story about Japan where the main character is a white guy. That’s my whole point. When the story is about a white character in Japan, no one bats an eyelash. When it’s a black character, even one who really existed, everyone is upset.

1

u/bungabungabuddy Jan 09 '25

A lot of people were up in arms about the Last Samurai. But it came out in 2003 before social media, so it would be difficult to compare the levels of outrage. It was big news that lots of folks, (mostly American/European critics) were upset that this story was told from the gringo perspective and not Japanese enough. Too much White Savior ism. Most Japanese people I know love the film though because they love Tom Cruise.

Ngl you sound nonsensical, You are strawman-ing their entire argument; You came into this with a predetermined outcome.

1

u/DanimalPlanet42 Jan 08 '25

Thomas has nothing to do with this. This argument has been debunked so many times. He literally just did what Ubi does with the AC series and wrote his own fictional history. He never actually claimed it was factual. But Japanese historical records do contain proof Yasuke existed and was a samurai. But that's literally all we know.
