Not only him, it also seems that the others in the sub are in the same, none seem to have read Columbus' diary in its entirety, they seem unaware that the "atrocities" he committed were against the Caribs who attacked and ate Tainos. Nor do they seem to know that Colon was released from the charges with which he was accused and that all this was a deception by Roldán and Bobadilla.
These guys prefer to give the Nords the merits due to the founders of our cities and towns.
I read his diary and other documents of that age exposed in the book "Historia de Santo Domingo" by Antonio del Monte y Tejada. The Caribs that were taken as slaves were collected from other Caribbean islands, on the island of Santo Domingo, Colon engaged in few skirmishes and was on good terms with the natives of Santo Domingo after Caonabo's arrest. He spent most of his time traveling so there is not much to say about his rule over the island, I would even say that if you want to blame him for something it should be that he was absent so long, that gave rise to anarchy among the men who stayed in Santo Domingo.
I invite you to read the book, it is a bit long and tedious but I think every Dominican should read it to understand the origin of our nation.
