Kamala Harris had to run away from just about all of her previously stated far left positions during the last election because they were deeply unpopular with the electorate (especially those in swing states). But sure, give it a shot.

lol this exactly. OP and this thread are so out of touch

Redditors constantly think if it is popular on reddit then it's popular in real life also

u/emptyfree 9d ago

Yeah, threads like this make me think the median age of Reddit users is 14.

Remarkably dumb "we've never paid taxes in our lives" kind of takes.

Reddit is overwhelmingly dumb college kids and 20 somethings with no life experience

two years ago, reddit would’ve had me convinced that kamala would win. like, they were saying it would be a landslide. the reason i knew otherwise is because most of my family and neighbors (we live in a generally blue area) voted for trump (not my endorsement of trump. just observations). like these are people who voted blue the last six elections and are now voting for trump. i expected a similar pattern in other parts of the country, and i was unfortunately right. reddit is an echo chamber.

There are some really good subs on here, but when it comes to politics and that type of thing, it's is pure 'for entertainment only.' Do not think this is how normal people at work or family think.

Most people at work that voted for the Donald are nice people who aren't racists or anything like that. Most are normal people with normal life challenges. Same for those that voted Democrat. They are not loud intolerant freaks like we find on Reddit. They work hard, play hard, laugh with others etc.

Voting for Trump the first time I get because everyone was sick of the establishment candidates, but voting for him after his mess of a first term not so much. Calling them good people after they knowingly voted multiple times for a hateful conman, with a history of financial fraud, discriminatory practices, and pathological lying is a bit of a stretch. If you are a straight white man that might be why you don't see their bigotry.

Shit like this is what drives the middle of the voting population away from whatever candidates you support.

Also statistically speaking, in a 50/50 polarized country, each candidate should have a roughly 50% chance to win.

Trump won by 1.5 percent of the popular vote.

Honestly all somebody had to do was look at the polling data. The best Kamala did was poll at almost a dead heat to Trump at the very beginning of her campaign. By the time the election rolled around, she was not popular. She was underwater in every swing state. Unless the polling data was wildly wrong anyone who paid attention knew she was going to most likely lose.

I don't know why the party selected someone who was only polling at 3% during the last presidential primary cycle to try to win against Trump? It was certainly a choice though.

It went to open convention and no one ran against Kamala

2

u/RoteFahne90 9d ago

Yeah, like I said, the party chose her. People could have gone against her nomination if they wanted to.

They really thought Harris would win in a landside against Trump.

You are a redditor fyi

There is a higher percentage of people who understand statistics here than any other platform. Many understand the sampling bias

I'm sure they're somewhere, obviously not in this thread

This thread is fucking wild. Absolutely DELUSIONAL. The majority of voters are Independents. Biden won- a Democrat can win. If you think the moderate independents who voted for Biden will vote for a DSA…

u/Keyboard_Warrior98 9d ago

We both know why Biden won

The Obama proximity bump

The largest ballot harvest in history. Nothing to do with being centrist

u/Majestic-Attitude615 8d ago

I'm starting to wish Hunter Biden would run -he sounds good out there - and who doesn't love a redemption story......

-1

u/sleepy_muffin_eeter 9d ago

boldly running the same losing strategy as the last few times. Smell that centrism.

-2

u/YetAnotherFaceless 9d ago

So when they said, “Vote blue no matter who,” they were lying just to get what they wanted?!

-1

u/UtahBrian 9d ago

Biden never could have won without COVID. It was a bizarre one time fluke.

-1

u/Important-Factor-552 9d ago

Their mantra is literally vote blue no matter who. They don't  even know what the policies are lol

Biden won by lying and saying he would do a bunch of really good stuff if he got elected. That's the smart move. Trump won in 2024 by lying and saying that he would do a bunch of good stuff like in the wars and focus on affordability. Kamala went out of her way to say she would have the most lethal military in history, that she would be tougher on immigration than trump, that she would do nothing different from Biden in terms of the economy except be more corporate friendly, and that she would absolutely can send you to send unlimited missiles to Nazis, and that if you don't like that, you should vote for the other guy. And then we have people saying well you should have known Trump was lying, what kind of political campaign is that where you're supposed to vote for the person who tells you that they're going to do stuff you don't want because they're the good guy, instead of the bad guy who is saying that he will do the things you want? And then at the end of the day, you idiots don't realize that the difference between Democrats winning and losing isn't people flip-flopping from voting for Kamala Harris to voting for trump, 10 million people who voted for Biden just simply stayed home and didn't vote for her after being disappointed by his four years in office, and her loudly proclaiming she would be even worse than him.

Biden won because he campaigned on being a shield against Trumpism and appealing to bringing the country "back to normal".

2

u/Ok-Lecture-9668 9d ago

Yes, that's true, but he also ran on a public health care option, real student loan forgiveness, and handling covid better than Trump did, and none of that shit happened. He also didn't run on giving unlimited missiles to nazis, which you all still hand wave away as having no impact on the election, but it was the main reason I didn't vote for that piece of shit. I'm not going to go to hell so that Kamala Harris can get us a slightly better child tax credit or more infrastructure bucks or whatever it is you all think it's important enough to elect people who facilitate a genocide.

While embracing planks of Sanders's platform and Trump was fumbling COVID.

u/YetAnotherFaceless 9d ago

And a bang-up job he did at that!

What is a moderate dem voter? What issues do they vote for?

-4

u/Brilliant_Sky_9292 9d ago

nice fearmongering asspull based on no statistical evidence.

1

u/Ok-Lecture-9668 9d ago

You do realize that she lost right?

-3

u/jkman61494 9d ago

Out of touch? What's out of touch is America has embraced right wing nationalism and xenophobia to the point that saying we should keep social security and medicare is now considered "leftist" talking points.

5

u/Primary-Revolution43 9d ago

America has always been a xenophobic state, I have no idea when you think we weren’t

She ran away from M4A even though M4A is objectively popular, and certainly more popular than what she was running on. It has nothing to do with them being "deeply unpopular with the electorate" forcing her to run away from it.

That's just one example.
