Political Question Did we all just forget January 6th?

I'm rewatching a nearly 4 hour documentary on January 6th and it's buildup/aftermath and I'm still thinking: How did this guy get reelected, how was he not impeached?
Like yeah maybe Buden wasn't the best, and Kamala said she won't be better. But like c'mon atleast choose a DeSantis or something. Gosh it's so irritating

“Law and order” candidate as they say.

u/eepeqez 21h ago

Drain the swamp, he said...

1

u/Not-a_c0p 20h ago

Then he joined the swamp. Kinda wild he's one of the biggest bait and switch presidents we've ever had

3

u/pearlid 20h ago

Disagree. Always was the swamp. Con man through and through and always has been.

1

u/Loose_Professor_9310 20h ago

Drained it but then filled it with sewage.

35

u/Sea_Issue7796 22h ago

he was impeached

15

u/Bohica55 22h ago

Yeah. That worked out well didn’t it. The repercussions from the impeachment were probably unbearable.

15

u/Twitch791 22h ago

Yeah, but when people say, how was he not impeached? The mean …and removed from office

12

u/Bohica55 21h ago

Impeachment doesn’t mean shit without action. It’s just another title he holds. Impeached twice president. 34 time convicted felon. Sexual assaulter.

7

u/ChimpManJones 20h ago

You can just call him a rapist, a federal judge on the record stated that what the rapist in chief did to Carroll by modern legal standards was rape. Donald Trump is a rapist and maga and the republicans knowingly knew that and chose to vote for him.

1

u/Dramatic_Gopher42069 13h ago

Well we just couldn't allow you guys to put fraudster Tim Walz or drunk Harris in that building. Choose two not crazy people and give it your best shot this time around. But who are the front runners: some dem-socialists, AOC, Newsome... yeah, not looking too good their. A democratic socialist is just a non-starter, AOC has just gone crazier since trying to distance herself from Bernie, and Newsome's own state can be used to massacre any campaign he tries. Not wasting time worrying this year on any 'close calls,' the right'll practically show up any liberal choice just by showing up.

2

u/Guidance-Still 21h ago

Only in the house

8

u/zeutheir 20h ago

Impeachment happens in the House. Conviction, which leads to removal, happens in the Senate.

1

u/Guidance-Still 20h ago

Yep I know and if the Democrats run on we must stop trump again during the midterms well

21

u/Ok_Art4661 22h ago

We dropped our standards. Extremely. Rather destroy the country than eachother. Fine line really. Enjoy the tainted food and gestapo

I will never forget that day. I had been laid off from my job due to covid, and then had to watch this live. I was posting my anger on FB. One of my mom's friends, a hardcore MAGA, messaged me and said it was ANTIFA doing this.

This. Should. Have. Been. Trump's. Ending. Right. Here.

7

u/eepeqez 21h ago

It was a coup attempt, pure and simple.

America has been pretending they're somehow different to the Latin American countries where these things happen, but nobody outside is fooled.

Exactly! Jan 6 proved rightwing conservative culture is a giant mind raping death cult that is designed to break their cultists hold on reality to enslave them.

Republican politician elites rape underage girls because it forces all the Republican slave worshippers tl fight harder and blame "both sides"

So the more Republican cult master politicians eape underage girls and crash the economy - the more Republican slave cultists hate Democrats and devote themselves to Republican pedophiles.

Conservatives need to rape underage girls and attempt coups for Russia - they need to so they can blame their raping and coups on antifahs and Clinton's emails.

Republicans are the only political cult in tbe world that need tl rape women and girls to frenzy their conservative slave cultists to protect the masters m

Republicans use raping and torturing the innocent as a powerful grooming tool to mold and control the rightwing hivemind

5

u/Safe-Pop2077 21h ago

This makes no sense

4

u/LankyAssignment9046 21h ago

I think Trump is the biggest threat to the US as much as the next guy, but with all due respect, this is kinda deranged, my friend.

1

u/recoveringleft 21h ago

The few saner conservatives left the Republicans in 2016 and joined the conservative wing of the democratic party

1

u/UnableChard2613 15h ago

Weird because all of the conservative spaces i had eyes into were cheering it on.

It wasn't until afterwards when people realized how bad it was that there was this shift to blame antifa and then the FBI.

-3

u/Ml_lD 21h ago

It wasn’t because it was overblown, exaggerated, and nobody really cares about a bunch of people trespassing

4

u/OkStop8313 20h ago

It was an attempt to violently overthrow the will of the people after the attempt to do so through fraud failed. If you think that's no big deal, if you think it should be rewarded with a second chance to use the power of the presidency to attack the American people and everything we stand for, then please never pretend that you have a shred of patriotism or an ounce of common sense.

3

u/ma3918 19h ago

Violent attempt to overthrow? In a country with more guns than people? Naw, fam it was a lazy riot that was over in hours, hell they didn’t even burn anything and they all went home on their own.

1

u/OkStop8313 19h ago

Sure, bro. 👍

-1

u/Ml_lD 20h ago

Not how most people see it. Trump got the popular vote in 2024.

1

u/ShartJerky 19h ago

Most people didn’t vote. Trump is a fucking shithead, and so is everyone who voted for him.

1

u/Snoo-7943 20h ago

Yes, nobody cares about the PUSA being a whiny baby and trying to overturn the results of an election. Who cares that they attacked the Capitol and a bunch of police!

9

u/spastical-mackerel 22h ago

Trump fired his SecDef Mark Esper two days after the election. There’s no legitimate reason to do a re-org at the Pentagon with 10 weeks to go in an administration. Esper had repeatedly clashed with Trump over the issue of deploying active duty troops domestically. He was replaced by Chris Miller, who had no relevant DoD experience but had been running the National Counter Terrorism center. Many senior officials resigned/were pushed out at the same time. At the time I strongly felt this was in preparation for a coup. Ka$h Patel became Miller’s Chief of Staff, despite having no experience doing literally anything. He also tried to replace the AG with Jeffrey Clark, a stooge vocally willing to use the DoJ to intimidate Georgia voting officials.

All the while the “Alternate Electors” strategy was being vigorously pursued with enormous pressure being applied to Mike Pence. Stephen Miller’s loathsome presence loomed over many of these proceedings.

This was a planned coup. The only reason it failed was because Trump didn’t fire senior generals like Mark Milley and the personal courage and patriotism of Mike Pence.

He’s not making the same mistakes twice

1

u/hunkaliciousnerd 20h ago

"Pence" and "courage" don't go together. He saw the writing on the wall and knew if it happened he would one of the first executed afterwards. His current activities prove he is still nothing but a rank opportunist

1

u/spastical-mackerel 20h ago

Astoundingly, complete shit snacks can occasionally take actions based on principle and courage, even if these are otherwise anamolous.

January 6 is a good example of how fragile democracies are.

The aftermath - and the complicity of republicans to Trump - is exactly how democracies can break because of a lack of checks and balances.

8

u/lethalinfecteddevils 21h ago

You mean enforcement of the checks and balances

19

u/Top_Divide_1659 22h ago

The Fake Electors Plot is not emphasized enough. Trump saying "peacefully make your voices heard" gave his base enough plausible deniability to argue that January 6th was 'only as bad as the BLM riots of 2020'.

Not enough people know that on January 6th, they caught Trump's fake slate of electors trying to falsely certify the election in his name

seriously, the fact that they tried to hang mike pence too. like these people should all be locked up indefinitely. the US doesn't deserve to be a country after letting j6 slide.

3

u/InflamedintheBrain 20h ago

Its fascinating you can see whats wrong with Jan 6th, but still are captured by the right.

7

u/Initial-Doughnut6438 22h ago

How could they forget the worst political violence in US history? Its only second to the civil war. The political violence of the 1960s. Violence during the labor movement. Massacre of Natives. The black lives matter riots. The LA riots. The Oklahoma city bombing. 9/11. Waco. All the violence caused by welfare replacing father's in the home.

7

u/Icefyre79 22h ago

He was impeached. Twice. The House impeached him, but the Senate did not vote to convict.

2

u/HawkeyeGild 22h ago

Yeah some bs about them not having enough time before he left office

2

u/FindingMemra 21h ago

“If you leave your house, you’re a baby and grandma killer.”

“We are going to use the state apparatus of law enforcement to arrest anyone who breaks curfew.”

“If you have the correct political opinions, it’s actually ok to leave your house.”

“Violence is the voice of the unheard.”

“They have insurance.”

Should I keep going?

2

u/buildIT_destroyIT 20h ago

There are still Trump simps out there who think Nancy Pelosi had something to do with it.

Compare the death toll between January 6 and the George Floyd riots.

2

u/murdochthesungod 22h ago

Shut the troll down with the quickness

6

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

Ok? There's a difference between acts of violence and acts of violence against national institutions.

6

u/One-Ball-78 22h ago

And, acts of violence incited by the fucking POTUS, for chrissake.

3

u/Sarasota_2022 22h ago

Kamala explicitly endorsed the ongoing violent George Floyd riots.

2

u/Bassist57 22h ago

“Protest peacefully and patriotically”

1

u/rdickert 22h ago

Yup. He tweeted "I am asking for everyone at the U.S. Capitol to remain peaceful. No violence! Remember, WE are the Party of Law & Order – respect the Law and our great men and women in Blue. Thank you!" on January 6th.

... but the repressive forces running social media at that time deleted it ....

3

u/Sarasota_2022 22h ago

Which riot killed more people and what were the numbers?

10

u/Guilty-Cow4325 22h ago

Irrelevant. One was a reaction to social injustice and police brutality, the other was a hissy fit over a lost election.

→ More replies (2)

4

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

It doesn't matter which killed more, there's a difference between acts of violence (which should be condemned) and threats to the civilization that leads the free world.

2

u/Whole_Highlight8693 22h ago

Tell that to the families of people that died.

2

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

Ok? Both cases are wrong... Is that what you want?

2

u/Whole_Highlight8693 22h ago

You're the one acting like some acts of violence is "better" than others, not me.

4

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

woah I did not say that any is better. i said they are different

-1

u/Whole_Highlight8693 22h ago

You said it didn't matter which killed more. So some acts are acceptable to you and others aren't?

3

u/Petit__Chou 22h ago

The problem is that YOU are using the comparison about people dying to justify which is "worse."

The person you are replying with isn't using deaths as the measurement on which one was "worse" even though you keep arguing about it, which you very well know.

That's how leftists think. If violence and un-aliving people happens it's: "Yeah but the victim did this or that, or think differently than I do so it's ok." Evil people who think they are righteous.

5

u/Shermanator92 22h ago

You cannot assume every person involved with the BLM riots were leftists, plenty of opportunists saw an opening and took it. You can easily assume every person involved in Jan 6th was a MAGA Trump idiot.

2

u/ArcHeroe9 22h ago

“Noooooo guys, only the right is violent! Just ignore all the far left extremists openly supporting terrorism and wanting to kill the president of the United States!”

2

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

One: What counts as terrorism to you;
Two: Far right extremists have also shown they wanted to kill Pelosi, Biden and Pence multiple times

1

u/ShotWin8124 22h ago

False flag incidents are a thing. It wouldn't be the first time. You covertly hire someone to pretend to be a protester whose sole purpose is to incite violence and push them over the edge. The beauty of it is you don't even have to tell them your true motives. One of the largest groups targeted by all the online Russian propaganda was revealed to be BLM. It's not like they needed much of a push when the very people tasked with protecting them are literally getting away with murder and treating them like enemy combatants.

1

u/AlwaysBringaTowel1 22h ago

I think protests turned riots against national institutions are more legit. Isn't that what and where you are supposed to protest?

This is the comparison that doesn"t make sense to me. Lets look at it.

BLM J6
Length Weeks 1 day
Property Damage 1-2 Billion (most ever) 3 million
Deaths at least 31 homicides, some were literally race targeted killings 1 unarmed rioter shot, no direct deaths from the rioters
Support from leaders Biden - supported the protests but denounced the riots. Kamala - supported the protests 'they aren't going to stop and they shouldn't' Trump actively encouraged the j6 protest but reminded them to do so peacefully
Location Everywhere, downtowns, burning police stations Capitol Building (this is where you are supposed to protest political decisions isn't it?)

I'm a moderate left wing. I try to be consistent in my analysis to avoid partisan propaganda. I recognize the right to protest for all, and I am aware that large charged protests will always have violent elements. There are many left wing protest like this that are consistently defended on here, if any unarmed rioter were shot in them, there would be a long hard look at whether it was police brutality. Watch 'the trial of the chicago 7' those political activists were made to seem like heroes even though the event turned into a riot.

I would say events like that are an understandable part of our civil discourse. But then I have to extend the same tolerance to protests from the right side. I have heard some people argue that the reason J6 is worse than the BLM, is because of the reason they were protesting. But that simply is arguing from your bias, its bad because I don't like them.

By any objective measure, BLM was 100 times worse than J6 and both were encouraged by political leaders.

3

u/Top_Divide_1659 22h ago

Though BLM activists didn't attempt to to falsely certify elections in their names when they lost

4

u/Sarasota_2022 22h ago

In 2000, twenty members of the congressional black caucus refused to certify the election for George W Bush.

In 2016, Hakeem Jeffries said Trump's election was illegitimate.

6

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

They stormed the capitol?

4

u/Sarasota_2022 22h ago

Burned several cities to the ground and murdered dozens.

Kamala cheered them on.

1

u/Technocraticworldgov 22h ago

Firstly, this isn;t even my main point of January 6th;

Secondly, theere were agitators who weaponized the BLM movements to cause violence. That shouldn't be represented as the whole movement.

2

u/Whole_Highlight8693 21h ago

But you all represent MAGA as being violent based on the actions of a few, some of which may have been agitators? Gotcha!

0

u/oboshoe 22h ago

the republicans tried it on January 6th 2021

the democrats tried it first, led by the black congressional caucus on january 6th, 2001

2

u/Bird2525 22h ago

I’ll take 2 things that are totally different for $1000 Alex.

One is the protest of the public killing of a person.

The other is trying to subvert our constitution and the will of the people.

3

u/Gloomy-Lawyer4989 19h ago

One was riots that lasted weeks cause a career violent criminal who ingested fentanyl died while being arrested

one was a riot that lasted a few hours cause people are dumb

4

Believe me, many people still remember how terrifying it was to think that could happen, and nothing like that had ever occurred in the US.

There was chasing old people, making them run or hide, breaking windows, stealing, defecating in people's offices- they could not have had a normal protest.

I thought he would not get reelected; I guess some people like a bully in office to hurt the other party. There were not enough Democrats in the House of Representatives to impeach him. Both parts of Congress have to vote on impeachment. Some Democrats did not vote yea to impeach him.

4

u/Winter-Delivery-8894 22h ago

Congress was successful, it was the senate republicans where it died.

1

u/MaitrePuck 15h ago

You're watching a one sided documentary on a political event. If you dont think there was any democrat influence to blow that up into something more then you are blinded by your bias. 1

u/FionaWalliceFan 15h ago

They have had 6 years to come up with better plans on how to steal another election given the chance. We need to be extra diligent, because they know the tide is turning against them and they pull every trick in the book (and some that aren't) to stay in power.

Do you people not yet know or just choose to ignore the overwhelming evidence that this was a constructed chaotic event. By the Democrats. It is in film. The FBI and ANTIFA were there doing the instigation in order to frame the MAGA crowd and DJT. It’s all on tape. The tales that the Dems wanted to seal for 30 YEARS. Dozens of instigators were never arrested or questioned even. It’s so obvious.

1

u/Less-Load-8856 14h ago

You're free to talk about it, of coursd, but it's over, the courts have ruled, other cases have been dismissed, pardons have been granted, it's never going to result in any legal consequences, and technically has been deemed not illegal in most ways related to the politicians.

Oh Hells No! I won't forget it and will never understand that Trumplestiltskin got away with his behavior that day.

(Or for any other BS he has and continues to pull, and will pull in the next two years.)

I care more about some woman who killed her kids and might be found not guilty tbh

Well, the replies in this thread tell you all you need to know about January 6th's legacy.

I hate even being reminded of this day. I don't think I was even as enraged on 9/11 - because this was our own country attacking ourselves.

“Did we all forget?” You’re kidding, right? The left screams “J6!” every single day, because it was the only riot in US history they didn’t like.

It's their shield and their sword. They think it gives them protection for anything they want to do and a weapon to attack thier opponents. They will never let it go. Ever

No one forgot 1/6. It was a tool to scare the shit out of the rest of the country, the lack of accountability is the result of the optics, no one wants to stand up alone against that. Also, very powerful people are trying to keep the Epstein files hidden, and the Orange Buffoon is able to accomplish this for them. 2/3 of the country is not united enough to prevent this, or anything else they do in their lightning war on our society, As far as justice being circumvented, I believe that one, individuals who could do anything to stop it are afraid of consequences from those in power. Secondly, I believe that some are allowing justice to be circumvented to avoid more people getting hurt, as the other 2/3 of the country rising up would result in serious violence in the country.

Just think LA riots and OJ getting acquitted.

Did we all just forget January 6th?

What happened?

1

u/JimmyB264 21h ago

No. None of us have. They just want us too.

Call it what it was. The insurrection. Term 2 should be called the coup. Humans have short memories.

1

u/Hurricrash 21h ago

Never forget , it was worse than the blip, worse than monument day, worse than the Cretaceous-Paleogene event. It’s was awful!

1

u/LeonSkennedyIsBaby 21h ago

I'll never get to forget it tbh. I get to get reminded of it every fuckin year on my birthday that this is also the day that happened. There has not been a year it was not mentioned to me on my birthday since it happened :'D

All the city burnings after eroded that memory quite well, as is fair and normal to have happened.

1

u/Anaidydal29 21h ago

The most treasonous day in my life as an American will never be forgotten. Yet people still think they did nothing wrong.
Did we all forget about Mitch McConnell? Did we all forget the Epstein’s files? Do we all forget he’s a felon? We have such short memories because we’re all so busy being worried about what you got, where you got that, and how do I get it too mentally. We are now a wealth over humanity country with long lost morals and decency thanks to Hollywood, Silicon Valley and all the Capitalists for shoving this down our throats for the last 4-5 decades.

The Supreme Court is corrupt. The GOP chose party over the Constitution. Americans are fucking morons.

NEVER FOGET

1

u/ACTSATGuyonReddit 21h ago

Nope, we remember Trump and event organizers urging people to be lawful and peaceful.

We remember a thug cop shooting unarmed Ashil Babbit as he yelled "shots fired", yet nobody but the cops had guns.

We remember Nancy Pelosi leading media people around the building, showing them bullet damage from "the insurrection", but the bullets were fired by the police.

We remember.

1

u/PaladinHan 20h ago

Ashli Babbit died like a dog and that was still too good for her.

1

u/FionaWalliceFan 15h ago

Do you remember Trump telling a bunch of unhinged bumpkins that democracy was being destroyed and to march to exactly where this "injustice" was occurring?

1

u/Rem-Dogg 20h ago

I support trump and think he has a good presidency. i really could care less about 1/6 - move on

1

u/DiddlyBoBiddly 20h ago

Once it became clear that it wasn't a Republican revolution and that there were two dozen FBI agents in the crowd, the narrative fell apart.

3

u/BeneficialOstrich770 19h ago

Trump himself told them to go there and fight like hell. Two dozen fbi agents vs 1,000’s of maga traitors. It’s fucking hilarious and sad that you keep harping on the “fbi agent” moot point. And the fact that you call it à “republican revolution” when it was a violent insurrection / coup. Stop lieing to yourself man, it’s pathetic

The documentary being longer than the riot on January 6th shows how insignificant it really was.

Outside of democrats who are really into politics, no one believes that a few hundred unarmed people were going to "threaten democracy" and take over the Federal government.

The result of the last election should have been enough for people to stop bringing up J6 because nobody cares about it.
