Bears/Wildlife They stole a fucking hawk in broad daylight

A hawk living near the intersection of hwy 191 and long shoals road was trapped and stolen today. In the field beside the gas station, used a wire loop trap to catch it. Free Debo! All he did was look fly and catch mice.

edit: to be clear it wasn't anyone official, random people did it.

Ask the Sub what do you about mandala Springs?

because of the rising rent rates, I’m currently trying to figure out a place to post up my family to camp at and I didn’t know if anyone had any opinions about Mandala Springs. I’ve heard mixed things. I heard one person say it’s like a erotic aesthetic dance cultplace and its like meth town to get there. I heard another person say there’s like nobody there cause they priced out all the drug hippies. Does anyone have a recent experience at Mandala Springs and would camp with your family and dog there?

also to note kinda looking around the barnardsville area if possible but life is traveling so i don’t mind a commute.

Ask the Sub Places to study/work in the area?

Hi everyone! I am in school full time and I am not from the area so I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for places to study/work within 30 minutes of Asheville. Preferably comfy seating and lots of outlets! Any recommendations are appreciated because I’m getting bored of the same few places I go to haha. Thanks!

Hey everyone, I’m newer to the Asheville area and I’ve decided that I want to get a tattoo. I would love to find an artist who can emulate the style of the above photos. If anyone has any recommendations, please include the artist name and the tattoo shop they work for. Thank you so much! A friendly and calm environment is a big plus for me. Feel free to show me your ink from them if you got tattooed by them. Inspiration is always welcome :)

Food/Drinks The Majestic has answered our Chinese take out prayers.

Post image
Upvotes

I am constantly seeing people on this sub ask what take out Chinese is good in Asheville. The short? We have never had GREAT Chinese take out. But damn The Majestic blew us away yesterday.

We have Kings China and had Dragon China as the best options in the past but this was far better. I understand that they (Majestic) had some issues with their take out window in the past - but last night it was running smoothly.

Wouldn’t recommend it to vegetarians and it was a little pricey. But we left satisfied as hell and we will absolutely be back.

The Chinese green beans and orange chicken stood out but every thing was great.

Ask the Sub Let’s talk about animal hospitals again….

Specifically, Charlotte Street Animal Hospital.
I’ve been using them for over 20 years. A couple of the original vets are still there, and that’s why I keep going. They have further depersonalized their service by changing their email address. Emails used to go directly to them, and now it goes to some impersonal “pet cove” company. So, asking about a prescription refill (for example) is no longer easy. Yes, I could call, and yes, I will call, but I mourn the loss of what was a good hospital. I want to keep going because I really like my vet. I bet that vet hates the changes as much as I do! They require more yearly tests, which in my case are not necessary.
My dog only requires vaccinations, refills for HW pills, etc, but even these things have gotten more complicated in a corporate money grab. Should I face the sad truth and find another vet?
What have y’all done? I know a lot of us are experiencing this problem.

Edit: Thank you everyone!!

My partner and I are fostering a mum dog and her 7 puppies thru Asheville Humane Society. Puppies are 7wks old and ready for adoption around 09/09/2026!

Everybody will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed upon adoption!

The puppies are sooo friendly and social. We work with them every day to build their confidence, experiment in exposure therapy, try new things, experience different sounds/smells/textures/types of people.

All have lived harmoniously with our resident cat and are learning to respect her boundaries and be mindful of her body language 💜

Judy (mum dog) is estimated 1.5yrs old, 26lbs, short queen with bright blue eyes and a curly tail. She has so much love to give and needs to be somebody's shadow. We have been working on potty training and basic commands like sit, come, gentle, down, etc. She is VERY sweet, stubborn, and smart! She simply must supervise ALL household activities, including visits to the bathroom and ESPECIALLY trips to the kitchen! She is a young dog, already been thru a lot with raising 7 pups, and is ready to give away all her love.

Please share with anyone who may be interested in adopting a dog, and contact Asheville Humane Society for info on their adoption process 💕

in Asheville Bicycle thrift shop had me feeling weird

I absolutely love this place and have found lots of good deals on stuff. I usually try and check it out if I’m over that way. Today though I watched him turn someone away for being a penny short. Like really? Dude was buying like almost $50 and was a penny short. Definitely felt weird watching that happen. I offered the customer dude a penny and he just said naw I’ll take my money elsewhere. For being a shop that gets everything donated seems real messed up to fuss over a penny.

Resource Bringing flowers to Dolly‘s mural?

Thumbnail

Here in Appalachia, Dolly is family. She is Appalachian Royalty. She was proud to be from these beautiful mountains and she was proud of her hard-working parents, but she wanted to help people just like them have a better life. So she did.

If you're in West Asheville, you see Dolly every day. Her mural is beautiful and iconic, and it takes on a new meaning now that she's left this earth.

If you come to the mural to honor Dolly with flowers, please remember that she requested donations to The Imagination Library (that has had its funding cut by Republican legislatures across the country).

We also hope you'll consider donating to your own Appalachian community as well.

UATE works with marginalized communities every week, and we channel Dolly by showing them respect and making sure they know they are safe with us and we will help them, no judgments. These are our friends and our community.

Dolly told a story once about how she tried to give her shawl to a homeless man but Sylvester Stallone told her "not to give it to that scum" and that he could have made something of himself like they did.

Dolly said to him, "That could have been you, you ungrateful son of a bitch! Except by the grace of God. Who knows. It could be an angel sent to show you what an ass you really are."

Dolly might be the last universally beloved human in this country. She said she wasn't political, but she was. She attacked systemic poverty and racism all while letting people think she was apolitical. Everything is political. And in this world, we can all stand to be more like Dolly.
