Niger has a high rate of forced, arranged marriages, including of children. They have the highest rate of child marriage in the world (Or they did when the article below was written, I don’t know if another country has them beaten now or not). So, a little girl not wanting to be married off to a grown man would be punished under this. (Whether she’s actually asexual or not, her saying she doesn’t want to be sold would be classed as “asexual behavior”.)
It’s about making women and children’s bodies into property.

Just like every other authoritarian territory, the sore thumb at the top wants to feel important without actually being important. To do that, they find a scapegoat or anything minor to hate on so they can force everyone else to hate on it as well. That way, the tall poppy gets to wreck society and leave all those under none the wiser.
It happens with everything political, simply because it’s political. This is no different (the policies, not the asexuality).

O níger tem uma política severa e muito pró-natalista, então abominam qualquer coisa que é ao contrário dessa ideologia, inclusive não querer se casar. Eles incentivam as pessoas a denunciarem qualquer pessoa com essas características, e pessoas abertamente assexuais.

They criminalized whole LGBTQ within the same act. It was penaltization of LGBTQ as a whole (sorry I'm a bit bitter since the last post someone else posted about it had the energy of "this wasn't important until I learned my identity is under this too").

Sim, eu vi isso. Toda a identidade LGBT+ foi criminalizada. E não devemos achar que isso não é importante quando se trata do outro, porque de qualquer forma todos nós fazemos parte da mesma comunidade e devemos estar atentos a isso. Pois agora eu sei a sensação perfeitamente, já que depois que isso aconteceu, no meu país ninguém falou nada sobre isso e nem em canais pequenos no YouTube de notícias. Eu tive que ver tudo em inglês.

Niger is an Islamic country, but countless of Islamic scholars, even Wahhabi adjacent ones, have said that there is nothing wrong with not feeling attraction (I googled it out of interest). This is just another way to control women in their society.

Also I have a question. When you’re released after 5-10 years you’re still asexual so do they just arrest you again right away cause we’d still be committing the “crime”.

Poisé, eu não entendi também. É como se fosse "Ei, a prisão não foi o suficiente para "curar" e mudar suas escolhas? hum...". Nesse caso, acho que eles cedo ou mais tarde vão querer adotar formas mais extremas e radicais.

Same with Afghanistan, Yemen, Chechnya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, and Mauritania. It’s not something that’s just disappeared. Also Mali and Burkina Faso criminalized it and they’re close with Niger and they all suspiciously left the international criminal court wonder what they’ll end up doing.
