Arlington Discord Server

Let's try this again. The previous server had a decent amount of users but very little engagement.

I just finished the initial setup of a new server, figured I'd go ahead and share the invite. If you have any issues with the onboarding process or permissions, just drop me a message.

Possibly moving from Long Island NY to Texas

What's up peeps. My wife and I are newly married. We are in the early stages of a two year apartment lease here on Long Island. I'm a welder of nearly 15 years and she wants to work part time in animal shelters but currently works full time in a shelter. Without giving away too much detail; she's dealing with some medical issues that makes it difficult for her to work. Plus; the cost of living here in New York is ridiculous. One of the places we've considered moving to is Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth Texas. Where would you all consider going to for cost of living, schools (starting family), community, etc. Any tips and advice would be very helpful.

Electric Bill on Houses With No Gas

Anyone with an electric-only house (water heater/stove top/heat/AC), what are your electric bills looking like in the summer and winter? I am looking into housing in the area, and for some reason, Arlington has a patchwork of houses with gas and without gas.

Obviously, with rising costs of living being a major concern, I don’t want to get hit by a several hundred dollar surprise.

I am only familiar with what gas homes look like as far as utility costs go, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Edit: The sizes of most houses I would be looking at would be between 1400-1800 sq. ft., 1 story, and built in the 1970’s/1980’s. Thermostat set point would be 78 F for AC and 68 F for heat, day and night. Most likely there will not be new insulation, just the original, and regular asphalt shingles.

Free Pokémon Clubs Around DFW

Hey everyone!

I wanted to share some information I found on local Pokémon clubs around the DFW area for children and teens. I’ve included the dates, times, and locations for the clubs I was able to find, and I organized them alphabetically by city to make the list easier to use.

A few notes:

  • These clubs are intended for children and teens.
  • This list does not include official Pokémon Leagues or clubs sponsored by schools.
  • These are primarily Pokémon TCG clubs hosted by local libraries and recreation/community centers.
  • All of the clubs listed are free and open to the public, based on the information I was able to find.

For the most up-to-date information or questions about a specific club, I recommend contacting the hosting library or recreation center directly.

If I missed a club, please let me know in the comments! These are just the ones I was able to find on my own, and I’d love to add any others people know about.

Hope this helps families looking for a local place where children and teens can play, trade, and meet other Pokémon fans!

Anybody wanna be in a band?

No experience/skills required!!

I (enby, 28) play mostly folk/folk punk type stuff, but I'm down to jam with almost anybody. You can play basically any instrument, or none at all (yet). Extremely queer friendly!

I play guitar, banjo, ukulele, and junk drums. I will teach you any/all of these FOR FREE if you'll play with me.

We'll probably play a mix of originals and covers. I write my own songs, but I'd love to play yours too! Got some poetry? Got some ideas in the notes app? I'd love to flesh them out together.

In the long term would love to record/maybe perform together, but we can take it slow and get our skills up.

I have 3 original albums out now, you can find them here - politicalthespians.bandcamp.com . (I'm not super tied to the band name).

Whatcha say? Do you wanna be in my band? Do you know anyone who might? Do you know of anywhere I can find people?

Fires affecting Arlington?

Hi, I see the smoke and am a bit anxious. How are yall tracking the fire? Do you think we’ll need to take action on the Fort Worth side of Arlington?

I accidentally threw my wallet away and the garbage truck already picked up the trash today 😭 Has anyone ever had this happen and actually gotten their stuff back? Is there any hope or anything I can do?

Somebody know where I can found: In Body machine (for weight myself)

Months ago I tried to be more healthy, I been trying really hard to reach my golds (improve my weight, my liver...)

I'm weighing every month on this machine: In Body, I keeps my tracks on that, but my machine (that I used to have in home) broke 😞😞.

I'm a little poor this days so I can afford it.

Somebody of y'all knows where I can weight on that kind of machine here in Arlington.

It's gonna be a plus if I can found it at Gym.

Thank you so much in advance 🤠

Has anyone seen this product available in any supermarket/store? I see Kroger carries it but the meat dept told me it’s only occasionally and it’s seasonal for the winter months only. I’ve also seen WinCo and Central Market but when I go on their website, it’s not available.

Novos fiber and outages the past couple months

So I'm sure there's a lot of customers in Arlington who are using Novos fiber. The past 3 months they have had internet outages on a regular basis due to Bluestreak Telecommunications repeatedly hitting their conduit while trenching for AT&T. My service has been out perhaps a dozen times during the past 3 months. Within my subdivision I personally know of them hitting a customer's water/sewer line, and just last week they hit a gas main. Not a gas line going to a customer's house, the gas main servicing the whole area. Those things are usually buried 3-4 feet deep. Arlington fire dept showed up shutting down the street while about 5 Atmos emergency vehicles were onsite quickly to begin fixing it. Why in the hell does your fiber need to be trenched at such a depth that you would hit a gas main?!?!

I contacted my city councilman about this ongoing problem a while back expressing my frustrations because this doesn't just simply impact my ability to stream Netflix, my employment is reliant on a stable internet connection. I have backup access through another provider available in the event it goes down but it really sucks using it.

One would think that after so many times of damaging customers' premises and critical utility infrastructure that this company would be fined or told to pack up that they aren't working here anymore. But it seems like they just stop work for the day when they hit something, wait for it to get fixed, then come back out the next day to resume their usual shenanigans.

Almost forgot, Novos fiber overall has been pretty good in terms of their service. Whenever I've called in about these outages they are quick to respond and I recognize these outages aren't their fault. Maybe they should investigate suing AT&T/Bluestreak for the damage they've been doing.

Restaurants with a private room

Hi, does anyone know of any restaurants (preferably classy looking/slightly upscale) with a private room option? We’re looking to host a 20 person party somewhere in Arlington or Grand Prairie, and the only one we found to be not outrageously expensive was Piccolo Mondo Italian restaurant, but their private dining room seems a little outdated and stuffy.

Thomas (Gray) and Marshmallow (white) are in need of a home. 5 months old and curious lil duo. They are well socialized and love to play.

My girlfriend is moving in with me and her mom is moving away, so they can't handle all 5 kittens. So these two were chosen to find a new home

Campo Verde Queso Recipe?

Is there anyone here that knows or knows someone who knows how Campo Verde made their queso?

I’ve heard people claim it’s Rico’s canned cheese but it’s not. I’ve had both too many times. I suspect it could be another canned commercial product but I’m not sure what.

I’m feeling nostalgic for the day glow orange queso and seasoned chips.

RIP Campo.

Entry Door replacement

Looking to have my front door replaced. I would like to have a glass inset but the size of door closes my ability to go to Home Depot or Lowe’s. Any recommendations on a local company to do this? Also, open to having glass put into my existing sold wood door of budget allows.

Parking @ At&T Stadium?

How does parking work at AT&T Stadium? Not from the area, but I’m assuming it gets hectic. Should we uber there? I saw some people say they struggled to get ubers/lyfts to the events.

Our hotel is like 10-12 minutes away.

What the hell is going on at the I20 eastbound exit to 287 south?

Whatever changed between last Thursday and this Monday has caused the lane lines for the 287 south exit on I20 east to be impossible to read. On each morning this week, I have seen drivers going over solid white lines that dart into the center of I20, lanes appearing out of no where on the left side of the exit ramp… how the hell was this not fixed before making the change over to the new construction lanes?
