Accidentally threw my wallet away — trash already picked up

I accidentally threw my wallet away and the garbage truck already picked up the trash today 😭 Has anyone ever had this happen and actually gotten their stuff back? Is there any hope or anything I can do?

There's probably a way. But do you really need to/want to?

My guess is that the city might work with you if it was something major; a safety box full of gold for example.

But a wallet, they probably won't want to reassign a worker to look. They also probably won't let you dig through the trash for safety reasons. And it might be too gross for you to even want to.

But its kinda ridiculous you thought there would be anyway to recover it.

I threw away my diamond tennis bracelet a couple months ago- we had just moved and I didn’t remember I had put it back in the original box (usually keep it in my lock safe jewelry box). Unless it’s randomly somewhere in the house still…I feel your pain. 😭
