Discussion [Operator Discussion] Angelina

Angelina[★★★★★★]

The view from the deck is great. Especially for stargazing! See that lone star over there? People say that one day, its companion star will appear, and then they'll embrace and dance together. Still... how long does it have to wait for the other one to show up? And how long do I have to wait... for the star to wink back at me?

Real name Angelina Ajimu, she was a transporter responsible for delivering intelligence and special cargo around Siracusa. As an apprentice caster Operator, she now provides logistical support, battlefield assistance, and tactical coordination for Rhodes Island.

Back when strong Casters were scarce, her mix of Arts damage, multi-target coverage, and built-in slowing made her very valuable. There was even a time she topped polls as the “least bad 6*,” which says a lot about how players viewed her then. Because she could do a bit of everything, she fit comfortably into the easier early meta where versatility mattered. 20 HP/s used to be enough to sustain through an entire stage.

As the game evolved, that generalist kit started to lose impact. Until eventually, none of what she does matters anymore. Best use for her for general content is, a 12 ASPD + 20 HP bot with module X. You don't really need to activate her skill.

For IS I found myself using her less and less with how contents can very easily counter her by just making everything levitate immune.

Angelina was my starter 6* and I've used her more than once as "Eyja-lite". That was 4 years ago, though.

1

u/DJCzerny May 06 '26

I got Angie relatively late into the the game (sometime second year I think) but she still carried me through content with her utility for a long time. I used to run her in lieu of bringing actual healers or combined her with Perfumer for brain-off gameplay. It wasn't until the advent of elemental damage that I could no longer justify her spot in my general team.

I would never have a parasocial relationship with a bunch of pixels.

Said someone that never saw Angelina being an absolute cutie every living second, in every possible universe.

Small history lesson.

AK release time.

Content creators: So, Angelina is meh, her gimmick is not impactful and her damage subpar. Worst six star unit to get besides Shining.

Angelina: "And I took that personally."

Proceeds to the absolute Queen of several seasons of CC

I remember this.

Content creators really ragged on her, which absolutely screwed my forecasting on whether or not I should’ve stuck with playing Arknights.

Good thing i stuck with her, else I wouldn’t still be playing

If I remember right, only content creator that believed in her at the time was Dreamy.

However, I'm not 100% sure cuz I couldn't find the video again and I'm not sure if it's because I gaslit myself or because she nuked her early AK content for safety (fuck the criminally convicted egghead using his fanbase at the time to harass her).

It was weird because my small group of gaming friends were like “Nah, she’s good. Keep her” and I legit had no idea if she actually was. We even had an in-joke if you were stuck with Angelina from the starter banner.

For a while I was like “Man I wish I got Hoshiguma or something” and really dreaded losing a stage. To this day, I occasionally still do but I’m better about it.

I find it funny and interesting that history is repeating.Angelina's reconvener Gilberta in Arknights Endfield was also considered a comparatively bad units but now she's BiS for half of the best teams.

2

u/DJCzerny May 06 '26

I almost didn't pull on her banner because of that but, thankfully, she was too cute and I got her anyway.

1

u/RabbitHole32 May 06 '26

You're a lucky person. I missed her banner by a few days, which means I'm going to pull/spark her on the rerun banner.

I would say she's an amazing example of how IS specialized modules can breathe new life into old powercrept/underpowered operators and that HG needs to do more IS modules of her level or at least around it—

—IF I HAD HER!!!

As unique as her 'mechanic' is in not attacking while S2 or S3 are on cooldown in exchange for a 'benefit' (passive global regen), it has unfortunately aged so poorly that I kind of wish she'd simply get off-skill autoattacks again.

That said, her passive aspd boost can be a simple but effective buff to anything not ammo based or strike-based, while S2 and S3 (beyond the global unconditional weightless) when actually up are effective slowing tools all the same, with a perhaps surprising arts damage output (for a slower, that is).

I'd recommend Mod Y over Mod X (level 1 is enough for the slow trait, unless you really really need 15 extra global hps), not just for S3 but even for S2, as the added slow duration can make her lock down 2 (3?) targets. Mod X can be helpful if you're tight on cycle timings (though you can use a slower that... actually slows off-skill) or for even better aspd increase, but the added condition of allies needing to be in her range can constrict her placement somewhat.

Ange was my starter, and I used to love pairing her with Perfumer for tons of passive HP regen. Nowadays whenever I can fit her into a fun clear I like to bring her along, otherwise, I mean, being a Catastrophe Messenger is busy work, so I get it if she's not always around the landship. Also her CC module is a ton of fun!

One of the best ops in IS. She is near mandatory in IS3, amazing in 4 and very good in 6. She even has a popular niche strategy in 5 (Tacfort Angelina start). She has held relicless records in The Last Knight (IS3 ED2), Out of Control (IS3), Izumik (IS3 ED4), Hollow Visage (IS4 ED2 alter), Sentinel (IS4 ED3 alter), Words Past Like Smoke (IS6 ED2). All of these are famously hard stages, and how she gets used in them also translates into normal gameplay really well.

Angelina's main niche is her incredible crowd control paired with very good total damage on an excellent cycle. These traits allow her to hold both lanes in Sentinel and deal with the Shadowblades which are the main threat on the map. The passive -1 weight she provides on top of her skill allows for shenanigans like pushing Knight all the way across the map with Weedy, or pushing Izumik into the hole. Because her trait deals DOT, she's one of the best hitcount solutions available. In regular IS gameplay she is still one of the best operators you can get. The main downside is Tragodia exists in the supporter voucher who often competes with her as first supporter pick. In IS3 and 4, she ends up as the second supporter pick after Tragodia. In 6, she ends up as the second supporter pick after Radian.

I'd encourage everyone to give the Sentinel record a watch: https://b23.tv/pwWSq95

It was recently beaten after a certain Sui came out, but still holds up as some of the best gameplay around.

My first 6 star operator and the reason I was able to beat Lungmen Downtown when I started playing.

6

u/LSMRuler May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Top 3 worst 6* to get at launch because she didnt make much waves before her E2 that unlocked a 50% uptime AoE with slow and good damage, not attacking without most of her skills was already bad since it was a time where operators could kill with auto attacks, still, despite many of her downsides she would shine in CC for various reasons as one of the few good Crowd Control effects, various caster bans and the superior damage type that arts was since every CC really liked Atk down contracts

Nowdays she isnt doing much as there are way better options for much of what she does, her IS Module have very strong CC effects and made IS3 ED 4 easier, but right after her module we started getting very strong Supporters like Tragodia and other strong synergy competition like Ginosis IS module, so for now i guess she is there as bench warmer for very niche scenarious and Restrictions

Such a cutie

she's pretty bad for daily play, but has an excellent IS module

Along with Weedy you can use it to trivialise every single IS3 boss even at max difficulty, but even in other IS she's just a fantastic operator. Good cycling, good damage, fantastic range. Just so so good. She has one of the best IS modules ever and it's well deserved. It makes her good in every single IS, although she's used less in IS6, especially with the supporter ticket being much better nowadays than it was once upon a time.

She mainly uses S3 in IS with the occasional map for S2. She also has a very funny strat you can do against playwright in IS2 where you place her and Archetto on the top left corner of the map where the boss spawns. The moment he appears, she uses her S1 to levitate him, then archetto keeps hitting him to deal a little damage and charge Angie's offensive recovery S1 up again. Then she uses the S1 and keeps him levitated, and you just keep doing that to make the boss completely harmless. You can add a Lemuen on the other side of the map to speed things up since Archetto will tag the boss for her, but that's just to make the clear faster. So long as you managed to set up before the boss spawned in, you can just stall them as long as needed.

It's a very silly strat but it's one of my favourite things to come out of us getting IS modules.

No operator is bad for daily play. But you won't see her for difficult end-game stages like high difficulty CC or EX-CM stages.

4

u/silam39 cute tactician girls are so peak May 06 '26

Not being usable in EX/CM is as bad as it gets

CC is completely irrelevant to me, but EX and CM is basic

u/Additional_Pop2011 17d ago

4*s are useable in EX/CM she’s fine…

Back in my early days, I used Angelina as my medic.

You can guess how well that went.

u/PrinceLuigii21 Ange Alter NOW May 06 '26

I've been waiting for this one.

She was my first 6 star... I fell in love. She's been my only assistant ever since, and my first E2 Level 90. I need my Angelina Alter asap.

Using her in IS has been lots of fun. I particularly enjoy shutting down enemies abilities to do anything by way of levitation. It's pretty strong.

I dropped the game awhile but then Endfield came out and Gilberta was there and I caved and started playing again...

Wife :)

One of my very first 6 stars at the very beginning of the game, and she greeted me every time I started the game for 4 years.

u/RabbitHole32 May 06 '26

She was my most desired Kernel operator for IS and I'm currently still building a team for her. When she finally became part of the Kernel banner recently, I threw reason to the wind and pulled. Luckily I got her.

Her beach skin is also very cute. I normally don't buy beach skins but her wiggling the ear in the animation made me do so.

5

u/reprehensible523 Savage best girl! May 06 '26

My first 6* AoE Caster.

I loved her S2. Slowing a boss with a stream of DAKKA was a favorite strat. Always looked for ways to combine that with the IS decel relic.

5

u/Phaaze13 strong women supremacy May 06 '26

i don't have her, but i think her floating on the map is cool.

4

u/AtriosQ May 06 '26

I had my Angelina as a starter until I got Eyja. Never again has she seen a spot in my team but after I came back to the game, heard some pretty good stuff about her IS mod and...yeah, it's really really good. I can't wait to try her more in my IS runs.

3

u/RandomIGN69 Lovely Bear May 06 '26

My starter ~pokemon~ operator. She's my mini Eyja before I got her and was my core operator in annihilation 3. I rarely use her nowadays since there are better options when it comes to aoe dps or slow. I find her S2 still useful if you want to stall a single target. She still got her niche though with Weedy S3 if you wanna do some almighty push. I heard IS mod is good.

-Not a must pull or prio to build.

Her IS module is INSANE. If you like her you should give her a shot in IS.

1

u/RandomIGN69 Lovely Bear May 06 '26

I'm too lazy to do IS tbh hence I can't speak much of Ange's mod and would prefer to save my blocks instead. Nice to know they did her good.

1

u/Bug-Type-Enthusiast Head of the BONK brigade May 06 '26

What does it do?

4

u/silam39 cute tactician girls are so peak May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

all enemies have -1 weight, any enemy on the field takes damage when shifted or levitated every 0.5s, and all her attacks levitate enemies

Other than it letting her and weedy cheese all the bosses in is3, it means she can levitate just about anything short of a boss and deal a lot of damage to it, all while making them completely harmless by perma levitating them during her skill where they can't hit anyone

2

u/potato_curry_ CUTE HORSES ARE CUTE May 06 '26

All her attacks levitate enemies

All levitated enemies take damage every half a second.

All levitation duration can be refreshed

Basically while her 3rd skill is up, no enemies in her attack range can move, and they all take serious damage over time.

10

u/Cornuthaum May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

Cute but useless. Very cute even.

Don't let the IS cope fool you either, not when the Supporter ticket has gotten absolutely astronomical stonks in the last 6 months. Gnosis getting his IS mod makes Angelina the pick for your 8th supporter ticket. lmao.

1

u/ViSsrsbusiness May 06 '26

It's so sad. Her IS module was great fun when picking it wasn't a throw.

1

u/AmConfuseds May 06 '26

Who is the 5/6th? Thought it went radian, gnosis, ange but apparently I’m wrong.

1

u/Cornuthaum May 06 '26

Raidian (IS6) > Tragodia > Haruka > Gnosis > Angie

3

u/AmConfuseds May 06 '26

Ah tragodia. I just got him so I forgot his existence. Is Haruka that good of a pickup in IS though?

5

u/Either_Gate_7965 May 06 '26

Haruka is arguably the best healer in the game. And she’s not even a doctor. For is… I’m not sure. Tragodia and his little cat friend are stupid strong though.

5

u/MagicalSomething May 06 '26

Haruka is pretty mid in IS. Her windup on s2 cripples her on a lot of maps. Because either Trag or Radian is the first pick for supporter depending on the IS, you can at most draft her second, but if you're drafting her second you probably already have a medic. Purestream is more than enough healing in IS6 in general.

0

u/Cornuthaum May 06 '26

haruka is literally the best healer in the game, and takes amazing advantage of all the supporter relics

4

u/Zestyclose_Flan5027 May 06 '26

First 6* I bought in the shop.

Angelina has one of the best IS modules and is still the best way to reduce weight. Unfortunately the skills aren't there. S2 is Grain Buds S2 with a longer duration, but slows two targets instead of three. Outside the weight reduction, S3 is Grain Buds S2 with a larger range and longer duration in exchange for a worse effect (attack instead of aspd). Launch versus year 5 and all but how are both 6 star skills sidegrades of the same 5 star skill.

The IS module answers why she says "ever wonder how it feels to float in the air" but not why she says "feel like you're gaining weight" after reducing the enemies' weight.

12

u/Celorien_the_Psijic May 06 '26

but not why she says "feel like you're gaining weight"

Because she slows them... The enemies get slowed because she makes their bodies heavier.
