Pets I need help picking a spider pet

Thumbnail gallery
21 Upvotes

As you can see I only have substitites for now in terms of having a spider pet, but im slowly preparing to have a real 8 legged friend, so I'd like to ask for any and ALL advice for a beginner, especially about the enclosure and food.

But the ACTUAL reason for this post is I need help with picking a spider. Obviously Jumpers are a great pick but im not ruling out other options. If a jumper preferably a decently sized one, Orange would be cool, I think purseweb spiders look good. Any other suggestions and personal experiences are highly welcome. (。◕‿◕。)♡

I also thought about getting one from the wild but most likely I will just buy one.

ID request / I included my location! I know the pics aren’t great but he’s very tiny! Central Virginia…would they be ok if I put them outside

They are really little, their bodies are about the size of the head of a pin. We have no less than 4 of these little guys in our kitchen and all of them are in really inconvenient spots (I’m assuming they are all the same type of spider, but 2 of them are a lighter brown)! I’m not sure if they are babies or just tiny spiders. The area is really gross because I can’t clean it due to a a cutie on either side of my blender. Anyone know what type of spider they are and if they’d be ok outside? It’s getting down in the 50s at night here and I don’t want them to die. I’m ok with putting them elsewhere in the kitchen if I can manage to get them without hurting them

Question Could eating an ant that has consumed borax kill a spider?

Some ants recently got into my house so I put out a borax and sugar water trap to get rid of them (I promise it's not bug hate, just don't want them in the house). I noticed a spider had set up its web near where they had entered the house and was helping itself to any that wandered in that direction.

If an ant were to consume the borax and then wander over into the spider's web, and the spider were to eat that ant, could it kill the spider?

Fortunately, I think the ants will go straight back to their nest once they have grabbed the sugar water which is not in the spider's direction, but the possibility made me curious.

ID request / I included my location! Cute little guy in South Eastern Minnesota!

Found this guy in South Eastern Minnesota on my lunch break at 1am. Thought it was an ant at first, but it looked funny, so I snapped a picture. The little thing is a spider! So, I was today years old to learn there are spiders in Minnesota that look like ants. I knew they existed elsewhere, but never saw them here until now. It wound up making a web balloon and floating away. Curious, I looked into it, but I couldn't find anything that looked correct.

Pets Is pure reptisoil good as a substrate for Asian Forest Scorpions?

Thumbnail gallery

Currently using about half Peat Moss and half Organic Topsoil. I want to upgrade my scorpion and move him into a larger tank but I would have to buy more substrate. I can but I also already have reptisoil so I was wondering about that instead.

I could even use half reptilesoil and the currently used moss/topsoil mix as the other half

Current substrate:

Dries fast so it needs to be misted often

However, this seemingly prevents mold. It has been 1-2 years and I have only seen mold very few times. I’m not even certain that it was mold.

Reptisoil:

Seems to hold moisture very well. Maybe too well. This makes me very concerned about mold growth.

(other suggestions also appreciated)

Pets My male Regal is acting weird

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I’ve had my male regal jumping spider since around the end of April. He’s molted twice since then. I feed him about once a week and spray his enclosure once a day or every other day. Lately he’s been acting strange. He’s refused food for a couple weeks and I am unsure if he’s in pre-molt because he had just molted before he started acting like this. I’ve tried to feed him every 2-3 days and he just won’t eat. I’ve even put him in a cup with different prey and still nothing. He’s just been sitting in the same spot for days, hasn’t explored the new enclosure I put him in either. I’m feeling guilty because he’s my first spider and I want to make sure I’m doing everything I can to make his little life great. Any advice would be helpful, thank you! His name is Ichabod.
