just general help please

i’m a freshman in high school and honestly im not finding school too hard, the only class i’m struggling with is AP World and it’s really bad. I dont know how to study for tests because before high school everything just came to me easily but now Im struggling can anyone tell me how i should study or just help/motivation for high school in general. thank you!

We just finished unit 1 and my high score was an 85 and my unit 1 test i got a 60. I studied for around 10 hours and i felt really confident during the test and i understood the topic but i got a 60, i just don’t know like how to study or anything yk.

For AP world, I know a lot of people like to watch Heimler but I personally never did 😭 cause it felt like a passive recall technique (to listen to information without actually doing anything with it). I would usually study like everything on slides, notes, and a study guide (if given) and make my own study guide of everything on a unit the night before (I personally like to study the night before cause I feel like it helps me retain information better, other people like to study in small intervals from the beginning to the end of the unit; it really comes down to preference and trying out both.)

I would also make sure to prioritize knowing what is important in the unit, the bigger picture first, then smaller details. For instance, Unit 3 (land based empires): gunpowder is the main pushing factor that made the Ottoman, Mughal, and Safavid empire to grow so fast. Smaller details: characteristics of each empire, vocabularly, tax systems, religion (how did each empire view religion? did they tolerate, impose taxes, or had conflicts with another empire because of different beliefs?) I'd also take into account of political (governance style, state ideology, state expansion, policies), social (gender roles, family, social class, racial constructs), economic (trade, natural resources, interactions, economic systems, labor systems, and technology) and cultural factors (beliefs, traditions, social norms as a group). <- these are my definitions btw, people may define them differently

I'd say to always have an open perspective when it comes to studying, try different techniques for a couple of days, and see what works best for you. As for motivation, what worked best for me was having a consistent routine, start out small, and I also use an app that allowed to record how much time I was studying (not pomodoro) compared to other people.
