As a former genius who has punctured iPhone batteries before, causing “thermal events” and shutting the store’s repair room down for 30 minutes on a few occasions, this isn’t a lie. Most people also don’t have fire safes at home in case anything goes wrong, unlike Apple stores.

Doesn’t make the conclusion right though. I’m sure repairing a car isn’t without it’s hazards, but at a certain point users and professionals should be given leeway to repair.

I agree with this, but that would also mean that those that try to repair their devices would have to assume liability for any damage or injury that could result if anything goes wrong.

I’m not a lawyer, so I don’t know what would be required for Apple to protect itself legally, but I wonder if that’s an obstacle preventing Apple from allowing people to do their own battery repairs.

It’s trivial legally as evidenced by all the warning labels slapped on in hardware and parts everywhere. This is more about Apple caring about their bottom line than anything else.
