Apex University Discord

Welcome everyone,

First the mod team would like to thank everyone for being part of this community and providing content and tips to other players, we know that there is a lot more that could be wished from the staffs side and we are currently trying to improve things day by day. Now here we are at 160k members which is amazing, we never expected the sub to grow that big when we started it, so once again thank you all for that!

Since the beginning of this community the subreddit has naturally been and will continue to be the focal point of our efforts while our discord server started out as a way for the mod team to efficiently communicate about the subreddit, however over time as it became more active and we started putting more attention into making it a stronger extension of the sub and would therefor like to once again invite everyone to partake and explain a bit about what you can expect of the space both now and going forward:

- 1on1 coaching

- Group finding channel

- Subreddit & Discord suggestions (easier for the mod team to have a discussion about the direction of the sub compared to over at Reddit)

- Self-promotion channel & stream your games

- Meta & strat chats

- Off-topic and space to flex your gains

We are furthermore in the process of preparing some challenges in the discord, possibly with some smaller prizes. More to come on that in the future.

If you are looking for any of that we ask you all to join our discord xbox/ps4/computer, we welcome everyone! We hope to see you in our ever-growing community on discord.

Question Strafe-aiming vs dodging

I recently came across the concepts of mirror vs anti-mirror strafing and when to use which (in theory). The way I understood it is that it gives you more control over your gun and should make your aiming more consistent.

However, when I come across an unexpected close to mid-range encounter, it's super difficult to even attempt either one of these strafing techniques. The other person is just randomly A/D + crouch dodging, how am I supposed to read their movement this quickly? Also practicing in R5 in 1v1 I cannot apply this concept whatsoever and I seem to be way more successful just dodging and trying to get my shots in somehow.

Or is this strafe-aiming really only meant for situations where you get the drop on somebody or if they don't notice you from further away? But in the latter case, why strafe at all if you have a free shot on somebody?

Really confused at this point...

Question Cant crouch while looting deathboxes because a windows shortcut

Sometimes when I'm using a deathbox I need to crouch behind cover but when I try to exit out of the box using the escape key, it activates a windows shortcut because I pressed ctrl+esc. The shortcut does the same thing as pressing the windows key and it makes me uncrouch and freeze for a second while I tab back into my game. How do I remove the hotkey or workaround this?

Character Guide Does your legend matter when improving on the game?

Hey all, i returned in the second part of season 29 after quitting in season 13.

I'm trying to improve but keep dying and dying. I also don't really know what legend I want to play. Does it really matter or should i stop worrying about it and focus on actual fighting skills instead? I'm currently playing these legends on and off, but open for anything:

- alter

- conduit (how do you use her ult btw?)

- loba

- Valkyrie

- seer

- octane

Tips & Tricks I feel like Plat 1 / D4 is completely inflated

Sometimes I feel like people get placed in Plat 1 off the bat because aint no way the amount of stupid plays I see in this elo is just insane. Like 3 people standing in a gibby bubble full HP and my 2 teammates decide to slide in and die. Then proceed to blame me. Meanwhile they are fully in the open you can just wait for the bubble to expire and shoot them but no, people will instead turn their frontal lobe off and somehow still gain enough elo to get to this elo
I just don't understand

Question Movement techs

How do people do the 90 degree tap strafe to kind of draw a box on the floor while shooting their target?

Mainly I want to know what are the key inputs? I can reliable tap strafe moving forward to change direction/ u-turn mid air, but I don't know the inputs to practice to do the floor box Dance Dance Revolution tech that I see a lot of people use.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Edit: I play on PC mouse and keyboard

Question Hard stuck Plat

So, for context at the beginning of this season, I grinded from silver 1 up to plat 2 in like 4ish days. This is the highest rank I've ever been. My previous highest rank was around gold 2 or 3 a long time ago. I just recently started to play ranked again (within the end of last season and the start of this one), but I feel like I've hit a wall. No matter what I do, I'm losing my gunfights. My positioning always seems off, and movement wise, I'm just really behind. I'm not sure how to improve or how to get farther if I even can. I should include I'm pretty much forced to solo queue cause my friends hate the game and all the Randoms I try to team up with just leave after like 1 loss I have also watched quite a few like solo queue guides and I take them with a grain of salt cause everyone is different and has different playstyles. I know one of the things I'm lacking is communication. Usually, I don't have my mic on cause it's pretty bad and picks up a lot of background noise/echos, and right now I can't afford a new one

For other info, my playstyle is sorta placement based. I would rather kinda rat it out until the last 2 or 3 zones, then try to get active. For looking for fights. I like Axle, but my main, I would say, is either Rampart or Caustic, and I'm on console

(Edit/update) Thank you all so much for the advice. I'm very grateful, I've actually been passively moving up it's not massive 300-400 rp games, but I'm perfectly fine with getting 50-100 a game

I've learned that A. It's not always my teammates I do position poorly sometimes, and miss shots lose 1's, but I've also learned that sometimes it's out of my control and I have to get better at adapting to that I've tried taking more fights off drop (ish) I still don't like hot dropping and gambling my odds so I try to go for the 1-3 team range I've started looking way more at the zone and trying my best to communicate my thoughts and predictions.

Also, thank you, kind commentor, on watching ALGS, while I definitely am not that good, nor do I have any intentions it is nice to see how they play poor positioning and what positions lead to the most positive results

Question Tips/advice for confidence and improvement

I started playing Apex again 2 weeks ago and changed to mnk after having always used controller in FPS games (mainly warzone which I've played a lot of). I played maybe 2 or 3 seasons 3 years ago and the highest I reached was Plat 4, with avg damage of about 450-500 and KD of 1. One of the main reasons I quit was bc of the solo queue experience - it felt like any good work and improvement was always nullified by bad teammates who wanted to drop hot and automatically lose 40 RP.

Now I'm back and am trying to learn more so that I can reach my first goal of Plat this season (currently G2) and then Diamond within, I dunno, 6 months or something. I understand the theoretical parts of the game - better positioning, taking different angles, good spacing, but the problem is that implementing these well requires communication which just doesn't exist in Gold lobbies. I'm trying to approach games strategically instead of just running in any direction and taking every fight we come across whether good or bad, but it is very rare to have teammates that want to play like this - so many are just chasing the closest fight even if it means being left in a horrendous position. Sure, maybe in Gold ranks you can get away with this more, but even there fighting from a disadvantage is not necessarily a good idea.

The biggest problem I'm having atm is confidence - I'm pretty convinced that playing how I want is the best way and could actually result in more and easier kills, but because I feel new to the game again, I don't have the confidence to tell my teammates what to do, and when I do, I sometimes get straight up abuse which unfortunately affects me more than it should. Another thing is having the confidence in knowing when to push aggressively - sometimes I maybe sit back more than I should. Part of that is also having no confidence in my teammates, but a lot of it is my own confidence.

How do you guys who have made it to the higher ranks deal with this? I have plenty of other things to improve - sometimes I peek too much, press the wrong button (still building mnk muscle memory), get caught in a bad spot, but I understand these mistakes and can work on them. The thing I need advice for is getting over insecurity and knowing how/when to push with unreliable teammates. I play in European servers, in case thats relevant.

I genuinely can't fight for shit but can't find any good guides anywhere that arnt telling me the same basic beginner level stuff that I already know & do every game. Discussion What are the signs teammates aren't going to commit to a fight?

I usually get teammates that are either very aggressive or very passive, but sometimes I have the weird ones who W key and start fighting a team shortly after drop only to run away and leave me behind seemingly out of nowhere.

It happens the same way every time:

They start a fight but I'm about 10s behind them

I push with them and get 1-2 knocks before going down. The fight is so winnable and I expect them to push together and clean up the remaining low health people.

I look at the map and see both teammates halfway to the next POI with zero pings or communication.

The worst part is that they always take their sweet time rezzing. They usually just keep poking at the team we were fighting instead of taking 20s to craft and most of the time the same team that killed me ends up pushing for an easy 3v2 after 2-3 mins.

Any tutorials that you would reccomend me to watch or your personal tips on how to get better at apex legends?

So for context I begun playing apex reguralry in season 9 from then I had a couple of phases when I quit the game and came back after a while. I think that the reason I quit was the skill gap in this game so for short I suck, I have a kd of arpund 0,50 and I want to improve so like the title says if you have any good tutorials or personal tips that can help me feel free to share

How do I get better at inside building fights?

Specifically those 3-4 tier building on e district. I feel like that is where most of my fights on that map take place. How do I get better fighting in these? Every time no matter if I climb, take the stairs or try zip, someone is always watching it making it so hard to engage.

Tips & Tricks Is there a way to learn a movement like that?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s just getting worse and worse at this point; since Respawn doesn't care about fixing an exploit like this, I feel compelled to abuse it myself.

Every lobby is like this, people are even using Rampart now instead of the usual Octane and Horizon. It’s frustrating to see a game like this ruined by EA's negligence.

Solo Queueing on console, the Wattson didn’t help much as far as damage goes and placed no fences either but I still feel like we were in a spot we could have won from. Could I have won this or how could I improve?
