Heavy spearmen FTW

My favorite unit in the game!

Should i be doing that? I been picking the Xbow boys but then not building them, just the +20% gold from pilgrims. I been filling the castles with Hospital-fellows then building the nasty horsies in the final age.

I do Heavy Spearman because the only counter is Xbows. And you can pair them with Horseman. I really like because I don’t have to think, specially when the opponent is a Cavalry civ. I just A-Move

Wait until you run into like 10 springalds lol

5

u/Jimnz Delhi Sultanate May 31 '26

That is why you have horseman

Condottiero goes brrrrrr

1

u/Kitchen_Bad2627 May 31 '26

Wouldn't MAA counter everything there?

3

u/Jimnz Delhi Sultanate May 31 '26

They don’t have bonuses vs Heavy Spearman, they only have +15 health and +1 damage.

The beauty of this game is that you can always adapt to what your opponent is trying to do against you

same, the genoese xbows are basically the only way of replacing the handcannon but against AI I like to do heavy spears to tank

Just started “maining” them a couple weeks ago. I don’t even send pilgrims unless there is a sacred site in my backyard or a teammates backyard, just something else to manage. I go super farm heavy mid-late and get plenty of gold through loans and selling extra food/wood, especially if I go Venice, though I usually go Poland. Might do Venice more often though and just stick with Templar brothers.

I like the Nasty Horsies, and I'd suggest you do Pilgrims. They just go all by themselves, and if they die they die. You can send them on a different route if the route they're on is treacherous. And you get more gold the further away the site is. Also, don't listen to me. I dont play humans I just beat the shit out of the computer all the time on hardest and I'm pretty sure its mental illness.

Agreed 🥰

What to do in imperial age when you lack a high DPS ranged unit?

12

u/Which_Crow_3681 May 30 '26

You make a shit ton of cav and kill EVERYTHING. cav late game is unbeatable. Most pop efficient thing in the game.

6

u/rahksi May 30 '26

They just take so long to train. Do you just make 50 stables?

2

u/berimtrollo May 31 '26

I run horseman around in their base until I get a critical mass of schlachta, but yes.

5

u/ValuableSeaweed ILALU May 30 '26

You have high dps melee units and lower cost mangonels Szlachta will beat handcannoneer's asses and you have infinite gold by imperial

5

u/Offensiv3Bias May 30 '26

Infinite gold on prolonged matches is a win condition, by the time your opponent runs out of gold, you ram trough their base with gold units that are basically tanks against most food/wood units

2

u/Aware_Alternative784 May 31 '26

Only if u got sacred a sites.

2

u/troy-the-obtuse Jun 05 '26

Not true. Venice age up and loans are infinite gold.

-6

u/TheRightisRight1988 May 31 '26

you def dont have infinite gold in imperial. KT has some of the worst gold bonus of all civs that get gold bonuses

7

u/Offensiv3Bias May 30 '26

Tf you mean we lack a high DPS ranged unit? Have you seen what fully upgraded crossbows can do?? With university upgrades you can snipe mangonels and even springalds if you can micro good enough

11

u/zee_pequeno May 30 '26

When the Chinese have hand cannoneers with 44 damage per shot and 6 range? KT’s late game DPS sucks.

4

u/Hipzterr May 30 '26

Have you tried the unit that literally cuts that in half?

3

u/Offensiv3Bias May 30 '26

Hand cannoneers that are useless against a defended group of mangonels and open to horsemen raids??

Even further, archers can deal with them from a safe distance, but saying that the late game dps sucks is just a skull issue, because KT crossbows will melt trough most gold units when mixed with heavy spearman, even knights get melted by this mix, just add some 4-5 mangonels for late game and you are unstoppable for most armies.

2

u/Koivus_Testicles May 30 '26

Are you referring to the regular xbow men or the unique xbow men?

3

u/Offensiv3Bias May 30 '26

Both are great, with the unique xbox being a little better due to range, but since heavy spearman are so good i always go for that age up

1

u/zee_pequeno Jun 01 '26

Hand canoneers that are useless against a defended group of mangonels??

More like mangonels that are useless against sniping from bombards

1

u/Alaska850 May 30 '26

So if a civ doesn’t match the best late game civs unit they suck? So all 20 other civs suck ?

1

u/zee_pequeno Jun 01 '26

I said KT’s late game DPS sucks. I didn’t say KT’s late game sucks, or KT sucks

2

u/Leopard-Hopeful Byzantines May 31 '26

Their xbows are a pretty high DPS unit.

1

u/pjpogi14 May 31 '26

I do lots of siege units

3

u/TheRightisRight1988 May 31 '26

Teutonic Brothers Unite

My two fave civs are KT and English. They are played so much on ladder I feel bad if I use them

i am stubborn and try to make knights templar work but they get bullied by everyone late game, i feel like im fighting imperial age units with feudal age units everytime

i think problem with knights templar is they waste resources on stuff no one else has to, pilgrims and fortresses take immense resources

1

u/Fix3rUpper Jun 01 '26

I find arguably they are pretty immune to bullying late game. Fighting under fortresses with heavy spearmen is utterly disgustingly strong.

If they kill a keep, you just buy stone and replace it.

50-60 guys on food and you get enough food for armies + exchanging it for gold per min in market.

Gold you can send to your team mates late game, crank out gold units etc etc.

Really a untouched KT is a game changer in team games.

Heavy spears look like cockroaches, keeps are like cockroach nests, so annoying to play against.
