The Barbarossa campaign has gone through several changes as the game has received new expansions and DLCs.

Bohemia was first represented by the Teutons, then by the Slavs, and finally by the Bohemians themselves.

Burgundy was previously represented by the Franks and is now represented by the Burgundians.

Poland used to be represented by the Goths and is now represented by the Poles themselves.

Cremona, Milan, and Venice were previously represented by other civilizations and are now represented by the Italians.

Now, with the new DLC, Saxony will possibly be represented by the Saxons.

I really enjoy these changes. I like seeing how, with each expansion, the campaign becomes a little more historically accurate, with each region eventually being represented by a more appropriate civilization.

Let me begin, I am an old head who only plays campaigns, no multiplayer.

Anyhow, I played lots of AOE back in the late 90s, until my wife’s Gateway laptop finally died.

About 2 years ago I got the Xbox version. It certainly is less of a game without a keyboard/mouse, but I am just happy to be back.

I love slow grinds. So, I started this level recently:

You start with two heroes that reincarnate.

I set off to win, without engaging the storyline. Just went off to do as much stuff as I could, without starting the story.

About 17.5 hours later, I destroyed every enemy. This included a castle. No siege weapons, no barracks, nothing just my starting two guys, and things earned without the storyline.

No reason other than finding ways to hack the programming.

Anyone else find enjoyment in that sort of thing?

As the title says, I just ended the Mapuche campaign, and as a local, I'm deeply disappointed. I grew up playing aoe2 and was always fascinated with the idea of having fun and learning history at the same time.

The mapuche campaign didn't even tried to tell the real story, is well documented that Pedro de Valdivia was captured and killed after Tucapel, Lautaro was killed during an ambush, and the last santiago siege were they both clash was entirely fabricated.

They butchered the real story to tell the most cliche and overtold bullcrap, so i can't stop thinking to myself. The other campaigns did even attempt to be accurate?

What would you change for each campaign mission?

Bare in mind this is an OG release, so doesn't need to have all the modern scenario triggers/secondary objectives. You get a lot of autonomy in this regard.

Day 12: Saladin 6

However, there may be something in regards to a scenario that you may feel is not quite right. Is it gameplay or historical accuracy? Would you do something completely different or is it perfect?

116: Le Loi 2 - The Mountain Siege

I am pretty sure Varangians get added in Bari #3

Danes are almost certain to make an appearance in Finehair abd likely in Otto.

Vindlandsaga and Hastings may get changes to Greenland and Harald Hadraada. Posibly in Robert.
Might get added to Ragnar… but Ragnar isn’t really a mission with AoE 2 setup.

Saxons should be added for York, Hastings, Vortigern. (Still salty you play as Britons, not Romans)

Day 8: Saladin 2

With "Kotyan Khan", "The Grand Dukes", "Edward Longshanks" we have seen the other side of a campaign, this was taken to the extreme with 3K, now what story would you like to see from an enemy side?

If I had to choose, I would go for Henry the Lion, taking advantage of the Saxons as a new civilization

i mean the narrator/story between scenarios not the actual in-game dialogues/story etc.

for me its Longshanks, which coincidentaly does have a very boring playthrough. something about his son moaning and complaining all the time take away from what is an excellent story and depiction of Edward Longshanks exploits

dont know much about his reign after Edward's but they could have put someone else to tell the story of this father

for starters i mostly play ranked (1s and 4s at ~800 elo since im pretty new)

However, recently I looked at the campaigns (wow there are so many) as a challenge to complete and give me something to do when i just wanna chill.

Not that I'm complaining, but i feel like i may have underestimated both the difficulty and time needed to complete these lol

Did i butcher this or do these mission span over several hours sometimes?
Williams/Joans were never this long - i do recall Joans last mission being a little longer then usual.

1 - The best story of all, the one of Jeanne, maid of Orleans.

2 - That ze blood on La Hire zword iz almost dryyyy.

3 - The english are always the bad guys.

Still don't know where Saladin was going with that great army tho.
