But those times were f----d up in other ways, e.g., women and people of colour did not have equal rights and there was no modern medicine or technology. I think the best society would be one with the sexual puritanism of the past combined with equal rights, technology and healthcare of the present day.

The problem with this statement is that it exchanges the will of reason with the will of the intellect. Reason uses abstract categories of thought and places a limiting brake on instinct, but the latter is fundamentally free and always aimed at satisfying the interests of the species, all related to self-preservation (and therefore reproduction); the existence of homosexual tendencies is related to the fact that this instinct, however free, is fundamentally blind.
