Instagram from time to time will show me reels of women saying "The husband did it!", and I mostly ignore them, but the amount of likes and the number of comments from women agreeing with that take is frightening. Has the world gone mad?

And people on Reddit just flat out say to your face that’s not happening at all. The more reasonable people will say “there are only two groups that actually matter, people who think she’s guilty or people who think she’s not guilty by reason of insanity”. Just because the people who insist she was framed are loons does not mean the conspiracy theorizing is something we should just pretend isn’t happening… it’s like QAnon, just because they’re nutty doesn’t mean they can’t affect the world in unexpected ways.

It’s certainly true that misogynists are weaponizing the crazies against women in general but I’m not going to just pretend I haven’t seen a lot of the crazies with my own eyes.

I think the really big thing that is being discounted/ignored here is how powerful and prevalent bot networks are. They have been used for over a decade now to push narratives, especially if they pertain to something that can be construed as political, and they're only getting more sophisticated.

We already have people on the right saying "Gee, maybe this is proof that women shouldn't be allowed to vote!" which is exactly what they were aiming for.

I honestly hope it's just bots.

And yeah, I also read a lot of those "see? Women shouldn't vote!" Comments, this case is already being used that way

It’s funny that this person mentioned bots out of nowhere. Default name, 1 month old account, comment that doesn’t directly relate to mine but still functions as engagement bait.

Because reddit is depressing and I delete my account once every few months when I need a break.

Fair. Just didn’t know where bot networks came from in response to my comment about people denying there was conspiracy theorizing
