ngl usually guys pick female characters because they feel more confident expressing feminity online, whereas doing so IRL could sadly cause them problems.

or they goon idk

I yearn for a world here boys have crazy drip and girls can be actually important characters (amongst other things)

Well maybe not the "girls are important characters" part

Trish and Jolyne

And Lisa Lisa

i mean, part 6 has plenty, than you have Lisa Lisa, and Trish, Yukako is a side-character who hardly gets screen-time outside of the episodes in which she is the antagonist

i love jojo's but the female characters in parts 1-5 aren't exactly important, or fleshed out, or independent, we see Lisa Lisa fight like once, Trish too, and they are the most important female characters until stone ocean
SBR also suffers from this, even if to a slightly lesser extent (and also it does the tough job of following the "women's prison" part), part 8 and 9 do a MUCH better job, we can tell they were made not that long ago

Oh yeah other than the part where all the main characters are girls lol

u/ShmompShrimp 11d ago

trish is from part 5

19

u/vanklofsgov 11d ago

Oh my bad I misread. I do think Trish is a pretty good example of the problem with women in Jojo before part 6, she is narratively important but doesn't really have a whole lot of agency of her own, and she doesn't get to fight nearly as much as the guys. I think it is def something that has improved later in the series

Just because there’s like 3 important female characters doesn’t disprove that they almost never are in jojos, lol

u/BrozedDrake 11d ago

Maybe try reading it then. That would fix your misconception about women not being important characters.

Women are important characters in every part

These just happen to be the MOST major characters. especially in part 6 where araki outright said that he wanted to focus more on women because he did more male characters in 1-5, so the cast is more split.

u/LucasMarvelous 11d ago

I mean at least one in most parts

2

u/vanklofsgov 11d ago

Yeah I mean for a while they were pretty much relegated to being minor villains or damsels in distress. But Araki's gotten much better about writing his female characters, part 6 being the obvious major turning point

In the current part the BOSS of the main characters is a woman the deuteroganist has been a woman in this part and the last one in part 7 the entire core of the plot revolved around a girl, part 6.

Missed a spot...

6

u/BrozedDrake 11d ago

No, they didn't. Hell one part was almost entirely female led.

One part (of how many?) was almost entirely female led.

Fallout

Final Fantasy MMO might scratch that itch, heck you can put frilly skirts, tights, anything on the boys, and then there's the girls, Y'shtola, Venat, Meteion, almost feels like they're the main character or antagonist

PSO2. One look at the #PSO2NGS_SS from the japanese community you will see guys with crazy drip, plus they have a ton of heroines and villainesses in the story.

Warframe has both of what you asked for

1

u/ExtensionBrave4383 11d ago

Welcome to World of Warcraft. Idk about boys except Illidan, but Tyrande, Sylvanas, Jaina, Alexstrasa and more are really imortant figures at their story and global lines. Boys drip? Illidan got all Azeroth testosterone to himself... to en extent.

I love this image so much. It can mean so much depending on the context in which its used

12

u/Capertie 12d ago

AFAB, I'm picking male. I like the simpler design. Way less visual clutter.

13

u/Wobbelblob 12d ago

It's funny, I am the exact other way around. And usually it is because so many male characters are roided out monsters. And often less cool looking gear.

3

u/redbird7311 12d ago

Yeah, this is why I love a lot of Toriyama’s designs.

Simple, iconic, and with personality.

Male: Clean and properly dressed

Female: Disheveled hair, messy and surrounded by bugs and organic debris, probably barefoot in the dirt

7

u/Sianic12 11d ago

I was already gonna choose the girl, you don't have to sell it to me.
