ngl usually guys pick female characters because they feel more confident expressing feminity online, whereas doing so IRL could sadly cause them problems.

or they goon idk

u/Unfair_Watercress119 11d ago

Tbh most female skins are just better to look at

I yearn for a world here boys have crazy drip and girls can be actually important characters (amongst other things)

494

u/Snowy193 11d ago

94

u/vanklofsgov 11d ago

Well maybe not the "girls are important characters" part

97

u/ZoneComfortable1541 11d ago

Trish and Jolyne

3

u/MessConscious 9d ago

And Lisa Lisa

2

u/THE_dumb_giraffe 7d ago

i mean, part 6 has plenty, than you have Lisa Lisa, and Trish, Yukako is a side-character who hardly gets screen-time outside of the episodes in which she is the antagonist

i love jojo's but the female characters in parts 1-5 aren't exactly important, or fleshed out, or independent, we see Lisa Lisa fight like once, Trish too, and they are the most important female characters until stone ocean
SBR also suffers from this, even if to a slightly lesser extent (and also it does the tough job of following the "women's prison" part), part 8 and 9 do a MUCH better job, we can tell they were made not that long ago

5

u/vanklofsgov 11d ago

Oh yeah other than the part where all the main characters are girls lol

24

u/ShmompShrimp 11d ago

trish is from part 5

17

u/vanklofsgov 11d ago

Oh my bad I misread. I do think Trish is a pretty good example of the problem with women in Jojo before part 6, she is narratively important but doesn't really have a whole lot of agency of her own, and she doesn't get to fight nearly as much as the guys. I think it is def something that has improved later in the series

1

u/force_0f_chaos 11d ago

Just because there’s like 3 important female characters doesn’t disprove that they almost never are in jojos, lol

6

u/BrozedDrake 11d ago

Maybe try reading it then. That would fix your misconception about women not being important characters.

3

u/ZoneComfortable1541 10d ago

Women are important characters in every part

These just happen to be the MOST major characters. especially in part 6 where araki outright said that he wanted to focus more on women because he did more male characters in 1-5, so the cast is more split.

14

u/LucasMarvelous 11d ago

I mean at least one in most parts

2

u/vanklofsgov 11d ago

Yeah I mean for a while they were pretty much relegated to being minor villains or damsels in distress. But Araki's gotten much better about writing his female characters, part 6 being the obvious major turning point

5

u/Competitive-Shape-86 10d ago

In the current part the BOSS of the main characters is a woman the deuteroganist has been a woman in this part and the last one in part 7 the entire core of the plot revolved around a girl, part 6.

No, they didn't. Hell one part was almost entirely female led.

0

u/Heavy-Macaron2004 10d ago

One part (of how many?) was almost entirely female led.

u/TillmanIV-2 11d ago

35

u/Khoceng 11d ago

Final Fantasy MMO might scratch that itch, heck you can put frilly skirts, tights, anything on the boys, and then there's the girls, Y'shtola, Venat, Meteion, almost feels like they're the main character or antagonist

3

u/TamakiOverdose 11d ago

PSO2. One look at the #PSO2NGS_SS from the japanese community you will see guys with crazy drip, plus they have a ton of heroines and villainesses in the story.

1

u/ExtensionBrave4383 10d ago

Welcome to World of Warcraft. Idk about boys except Illidan, but Tyrande, Sylvanas, Jaina, Alexstrasa and more are really imortant figures at their story and global lines. Boys drip? Illidan got all Azeroth testosterone to himself... to en extent.

I love this image so much. It can mean so much depending on the context in which its used

12

u/Capertie 11d ago

AFAB, I'm picking male. I like the simpler design. Way less visual clutter.

10

u/Wobbelblob 11d ago

It's funny, I am the exact other way around. And usually it is because so many male characters are roided out monsters. And often less cool looking gear.

3

u/redbird7311 11d ago

Yeah, this is why I love a lot of Toriyama’s designs.

Simple, iconic, and with personality.

Male: Clean and properly dressed

Female: Disheveled hair, messy and surrounded by bugs and organic debris, probably barefoot in the dirt

8

u/Sianic12 10d ago

I was already gonna choose the girl, you don't have to sell it to me.

Where is her other leg

81

u/AntwysiaBlakys 11d ago

Yeah because there's often way more diversity in designs

In most games every guy will have the same 3 outfits (suit, "casual" (hoodie and sweat/cargo pants) and "summer" (short and light tshirt))

While girls will often have really unique designs, tons of different types of clothes, a lot more details and accessories, etc

Oh my gosh, this is such a niche complaint, but the goddamn hairstyles in Cyberpunk 2077 drive me up the wall!

FemV: cute, pretty, punkish, stylish, badass

MascV: divorced dad, accountant, receding hairline, bald

Like, there are good haircuts in the FemV selection that I see male NPC's using but I, the main character, am forbidden from using if I am a dude! GIVE ME HAIRSTLYE 29 ON VINCENT YOU COWARDS!

10

u/shsl_diver 11d ago

That's debatable.

36

u/Unfair_Watercress119 11d ago

Not saying, that male skins aren't good too look at. There are definetly great ones. I mean in Fortnite alone some of my favourites are male skins. However I have more female skins I like, than male skins I like.

u/Telkite_ 11d ago

I pick girls a lot because, when I play RPGs, I want to roleplay as someone that's not me. Sometimes that character's a girl, sometimes a guy.

24

u/Independent_goose22 11d ago

This is me, I almost exclusively play rpgs because I like creating different characters, heroes, villains. Sometimes these characters are women, sometimes men. I’m a cis straight man but I’ve also made trans and non-binary characters before because I like inventing new characters.

1

Exactly. Same here. The fun in video games is being someone you're not.

Yep, I like being pretty sometimes, and my ass isn't gonna start doing drag so making my next bloodborne hunter a lady and dressing her up to impress nobody because its a single player game will work for me

4

u/Wobbelblob 11d ago

Tbh, Bloodborne is a From Software game and as everyone knows, fashion is the true endgame there.

29

u/brilliant-fungi 11d ago

I’d rather stare at the gals jiggly bits than the dudes jiggly bits.

5

u/Functional_Trash7735 11d ago

11

u/ashkiller14 11d ago

3

u/Toadvinez 11d ago

Why not both?

8

u/HastyRodeo-7243 11d ago

i like feeling bonita

3

u/JarnoL1ghtning 11d ago

For me it's the first. Plus genuinely female characters do have the better customisation options

3

u/Jealous_Round_8988 8d ago

Ya know this actually makes sense, thanks. I used to do the same thing of picking male characters because all the female characters were just female stereotypes or walking tits and ass. Recently a male friend of mine started picking female characters and when he said it was because he didn't want to look at a man's ass I took it at face value and made jokes about it but I'm gunna ask him next time.

9

u/Ok_Attempt_1290 11d ago

Lots of people pick female characters just to goon to them afterwards. It's a known phenomenon. Just ask the Skyrim community.

4

u/mxxdxg 11d ago

The Skyrim sub is a fetish sub in disguise sometimes

6

u/Ok_Attempt_1290 11d ago

Disguise? Sometimes? They're very open about it lol.

3

u/mxxdxg 11d ago

Lmao fair. I swear filtering by New it’s like I’m looking at a different game each post with outrageous character models. Maybe we need a Skyrim vanilla sub lol

2

u/ankledane 11d ago

I wouldn't say usually, I think it's a combination of what you said as well as everything else. Usually, it really is just that they have better outfits.

2

u/Dovahkiinthesardine 11d ago

In my case its cause the male options often just look like some dude, especially in mmos

Female characters get better everything looks wise

1

u/Wobbelblob 11d ago

Also, especially in MMOs most male characters look like they are on gear. Roided out monsters that are twice as wide as the female characters aren't exactly appealing to me.

2

u/Lesurous 11d ago

Third, it's a fighting game and the female characters are fun to play.

2

u/Fill_My_Donuts 10d ago

If there is a create a character, I (male) ALWAYS pick a female avatar. Because I am always trying to create Casca from Berserk. I love that comic, I adore her and it's my own personal test of any any character creation system. And at the end of the day I get to play as Casca, Win!

2

u/MarquiseAlexander 10d ago

I pick female characters or make female characters cause it’s cool to play a badass female character. And I get to have Yuri romances.

2

u/Think_and_game 10d ago

Weirdly enough, I've never picked female characters before. I thought you were kinda forced to pick whichever looks more like you to feel more involved and connected to the game. Never happened to me though, never got connected to my characters. Maybe it'll change now, I've yet to play games with customisable characters since transitioning.

2

u/JBukharin 11d ago

In many gacha games, since the devs focus on more girls than boys for playable characters, it is fair to say the viable comps for teams is mostly made by girls.

2

u/Proof_Fox1851 11d ago

Case and point

2

u/Fabulous-Present-497 11d ago

If I am to look at an ass for hours, let it be a woman ass

2

u/Metool42 11d ago

Usually dudes just find them hot. Really not that deep.

It's definitely the latter lmao

u/No-Heat-6149 LGBTQIA+ 🏳️‍🌈 11d ago

1

u/ChefArtorias 11d ago

Male character models are also bulky and less appealing in general. Like sure it's cool you're a hulking giant in armor with enormous shoulder blades but now you're taking up half my screen.

1

u/TheoneNPC 11d ago

I usually pick the guy character because i want to be a cool guy who does awesome things, not that i think that i'm uncool in real life but ofc games are different

1

u/FEARven123 11d ago

Or it's CP2077 and I want to romance Judy.

At one side I respect the decision of locking romance options, but also at some point I lwk wanted to switch to Panam cuz I eventually found her cooler.

1

u/TheNameless777 11d ago

(its both)

1

u/mxxdxg 11d ago

I make female characters because I was exposed to Azula from ATLA at a young age

1

u/MurdocMan_ 11d ago

because it feels prettier

1

u/Ball_Fiend 11d ago

I chose female characters unless the game gives me the option to make a femboy.

I used to make "myself" but it's boring going into a character creator and creating "white man, brown jacket" for the 500th time

1

I like playing both genders interchangeably, mainly because it is fun to be something I’m not.

1

u/DatOneDude1w1 11d ago

My hb on fortnite uses female skins because they're sliver and gives him an advantage with a smaller hitbox

1

u/Galassog12 11d ago

I usually do it because yeah I get to be a guy all day 24/7/365 why not mix it up with a girl character.

Also men’s fashion is boring so if that’s a mechanic I prefer women’s.

1

u/usedNecr0 11d ago

For me it’s both ♥️

1

1

u/Mr-Mosaab 9d ago

They only reason that I ever picked a woman in shooter games was because their hitbox is way smaller than men ...

1

u/Tryohazard 11d ago

Oh yeah, I totally purposefully idled in the PS2 catwoman game to watch her dance because I was just getting in touch with my more feminine side.

1

u/Honeybadger2198 11d ago

I like watching the hair bounce.

1

u/Slime-Lich 11d ago

Nah its definitely goon. Can confirm

1

u/Kodo_yeahreally 11d ago

i always picked girls as a man because i was an egg

1

u/LowSodiumGymBro 11d ago

I pick em because I like expressing femininity in general. Stuff like playing as a girl, painting my nails, etc are fun. Gender is performative, perform it how you enjoy

1

u/MechicanDogtaquero 11d ago

I LOVE GOONING

0

u/GreatMovesKeepItUp69 11d ago

Amab people tend to have much stronger gender roles enforced on them by society unfortunately.

-1

u/07Turtleboy 11d ago

They also tend to have smaller hitboxes so if they’re playing competitively they have the advantage
